Mets Chat Room: Rolling with Pedro Edition

June
21

The altitude makes it harder to pitch here than in most places. Jerry Manuel said it concerns him in dealing with Pedro Martinez. Manuel said he’s trying to stretch out young guys like John Maine, Mike Pelfrey and Oliver Perez, but he’ll be cautious with Martinez.

The Mets are back at .500 today and enter the game only 4 1/2 games behind Philadelphia. There’s a lot of time left and the Mets are showing a spark they haven’t all season. We’ll see if its real heat or just smoke.

Defense has played well lately. That’s another good play by Chavez.-JD

Two pitches; two bombs. Jogging to first base couldn’t have take that much out of him. He’s only thrown 52 pitches.-JD

I have a feeling this inning is going to explode

    Kabooom!-JD

  8. Two-By-Four

The Mets’ announcers pointed out that a pitcher such as Pedro has become will lose some of his effectiveness at the high altitude since it is difficult to control and get much of a break on the breaking pitches. El Dugue had a similar problem in this park last year.

Gary and Ron also mentioned how difficult it was to hit earlier in the game due to the shadows. Couple that with them seeing Pedro for the 2nd and 3rd time around in the game and kaboom.

I hope Cancel answers my ongoing question as to why they are carrying 3 catchers. Nope….he didn’t.

  10. Two-By-Four

The bases loaded and no one out and the best Mets can send up is Nixon, Endy and Cancel. Enough said!

NOTE: Brian Schneider was taken to the hospital for an X-Ray on his left pinkie finger. He took a foul tip in the first inning.-JD

  12. Mike C.

A manager who believes that, perhaps, being old and injury-prone ISN’T a sign that you are a bulletproof unquestionable Proven Veteran™?

    Oh man…

Oh man, I’m seein’ double… four Krusties!

Brian Schneider will not be missed at all if he is hurt. He offensively is as pathetic as anybody this team has had in recent yers. If you had offensive depth fine, but you don’t and this guy is absolutely horrible. At least Castro/Casanova can reach the wall, and if you want d for back up bring up Molina/Nickeas instead.
