Mets sign 20 draft picks

The Mets today signed 20 more draft picks from the 2008 First Year Player Draft, including their third round selection outfielder Kirk Nieuwenhuis. Overall, they have signed 34 draft selections.


 In addition, the Mets have signed their fifth round pick catcher Charlie Doyle, ninth round selection righthanded pitcher Eric Beaulac, 11th round pick righthanded pitcher Jeffrey Kaplan, 13th round pick righthanded pitcher Scott Shaw, 14th round pick righthanded pitcher Brandon Moore, 17th round selection lefthanded pitcher Mitchell Houck, 21st round pick lefthanded pitcher Jim Fuller, 25th round pick righthanded pitcher Erik Turgeon, 26th round selection outfielder John Servidio, 27th round pick first baseman Jeff Flagg, 28th round pick lefthanded pitcher Jimmy Johnson, 30th round selection righthanded pitcher Michael Lynn, 31st round pick righthanded pitcher Michael Powers, 35th round pick infielder Kyle Suire, 36th round selection righthanded pitcher Jacob Goldberg, 41st round pick catcher Tyler Howe, 42nd round pick righthanded pitcher Tim Smith, 43rd round selection outfielder Mark McGonigle and 49th round pick infielder Doug McNulty.


Nieuwenhuis, Beaulac, Kaplan, Houck, Fuller, Servidio, Johnson, Lynn and Powers will report to Brooklyn (A) of the New York-Penn League. Doyle, Shaw, Moore, Turgeon, Flagg, Suire, Goldberg, Smith and McGonigle will be sent to Kingsport® of the Appalachian League while Howe and McNaulty will report to the rookie-level Gulf Coast Mets.
