Mets Chat Room: Manuel Day Two
-
- June
- 18
Jerry Manuel said he expects the transition to be smooth and probably complete by the end of the road trip. There is a difference in the clubhouse. A lot of laughter and joking today. I think the Willie Randolph thing was starting to weigh on the players collectively.
How could it not?
Enjoy the game. Looking forward to talking with you.

Manuel and Warthen have talked about having more defined roles for the bullpen. Have they actually defined who will be pitching in what situation?
I have a hunch that heilman is going to assume the setup role again
It was weird to see Vargas pitching late in the game after all the talk about better defined roles. Tony Armas Jr is lights out under Warthen in AAA wonder if there looking to move vargas to a different role to bring Armas in as a long man.
Did anybody read the Klapisch story in which he wrote that Met veteran told Willie “I’ll be here longer than you” after being challenged to focus more in a closed door meeting with Willie?
I would love to see Armas have a go at it Ed
John, You made the broadcast. And a name drop also from the booth. An instant celebrity. = )
Nice screen time for JD! Geez, John, do you have a deal with Jerry Manuel?
JD will be in the next “Subway” commercial. They have an opening now.
Will Manuel have to put up with Francesa and Russo every week?
Sorry – Not Subway – the other sandwich company that featured Joe and Willie – where the sandwiches were “toasted” = )
Subway
Dan – I hope that he does for selfish reasons. I have liked the way he speaks so far, and, that he tells you what more frankly than Willie ever did what he thinks, so I think he will be very entertaining to listen to. Maybe Mike and the Dog will be smart enough not to interrupt him and let him finish his thoughts if he does have to go on with them.
John – just got this email from my brother:
Are there any owners in baseball today that are nice people?
The Mets “can’t†be worse than our Orioles owners—can they?
Comments?
I think the next poster who says we need to trade Reyes needs to spend one month locked up in a room with Maddog Russo
Wouldn’t it be nice if that little confrontation last night was the thing that got Jose focused again?
Ray: That’s cruel and inhuman treatment.-JD
And during that month, you would have to listen to Russo try to say the name “Kyle Lohse” at least one time every hour.
Delcos, nice face time :)
Do you have a back end deal with points? or is it all front loaded? :)
Chris Russo spends the entire time telling the caller why he or she is wrong while never letting them finish a statement. He has the attraction of a dog whistle. Whenever he opens his mouth, people and animals alike cringe.
I wonder whether Willie, Jacket and Nieto will now be able to attend that beach party at Lace. Could be a blessing in disguise.
ALERT: Willie Randolph is still in Anaheim. He plays 3rd base for the Halos.
Actually, scratch that. Linoleum floors at Lace. That’s a no-go.
Annie Savoy: Arte Moreno of the Angels is probably okay. He lowered concession prices when he took over the team.
Tiffany – I think that they are hosting it. They just won’t let the Jacket talk. They would have to change the name of the place to Peterson’s Cult Corner.
The Jacket could hand out bracelets at the door while collecting the cover charge.
And the person in the room with mad dog has to wear a dodgers jersey. Why a Giants fan is on NY radio I still dont know.
I actually think he’d be back stage with the performers before they went on, telling them to close their eyes and pretend that they’re butterflies.
Tiffany – This just in… Peterson is actually going to be one of the performers. He is going by the stage name of Moonbeam.
Oh goody, bases loaded, nobody out for Vladdy…
I seriously despise Oliver Perez…
Thank you Torii Hunter!
Well, It was the 5th inning. you knew it was coming.
Stillsane,
I guess that means Willie and Nieto will be appearing as Aura and Mystique.
Ray – I think you’re right. Get your singles ready! = )
To quote flounder, ” Oh boy, this is gonna be fun.”
Perez’s mediocre line: six innings, nine hits, four runs, three walks and two strikeouts. He averaged two runners on base per inning. Surprised he only gave up four runs. Of course, the Angels helped him out on the bases in the fifth.-JD
Was Manuel given any kind of pay raise now that he is interim manager?
With Coin Flip, there is always one inning when the carriage turns into a bumpkin.
So, JD, are you gonna let us know who the leaker is? we wont tell anyone?
No add on runs kill this team once again.
Jose makes it happen again with the clutch hit from Wright. This is our present and our future.
BEST WIN OF THE SEASON…
This could turn our season around….
Too bad Gils not here tonight. The scrappiest team won. Lets Go Mets !!!!
At the beginning of the blog tonight Joe D, asked if anyone read the Bob Klapish column, which contains the following passage:
”...It was a rare, line-in-the-sand moment for Randolph, who avoided confrontation with his players. But the manager’s attempt to assert his authority failed miserably, as the two men raised their voices at each other.
As he walked out the door, the elder Met taunted Randolph, “I’m going to be here longer than you.â€

Who is the player in question???
i would say carlos delgado
josh- i couldnt agree more. this was clutch, everyone came thru down the stretch, and this my lohud friends is an example of what bad teams don’t do.
all the willie nonsense and any other critisisms can take a back seat to this win
paulunde, I can almost guarentee it was Luis Castillo. Actually, I guarentee it and willing to put money on it.
Josh: Yeah, i’ve heard THAT one before. Let’s go on a 7 to 10 game winning streak, and then i’ll think they turned the corner. It was a big win regardless…but let’s face it…ANY win for this club is a big win right now.
JD: What is the deal with Manuel and his comment about cutting Reyes if he ever did what he did on the field again. If that is the exact quote about being a “Gangsta” and all that crap from Manuel, well I think he needs a big talking to. That is not tolerable, even in a joking manner.
I can’t believe people are making a big deal about what Manuel said. It was a joke. get over yourselves people
Franco: It was an awful joke, in poor taste. Who the F wants to have this team have a “Gangsta” mentality anyway? Doesn’t this team have enough problems? I don’t get you Franco…from thinking that the Mets treated Willie fairly when they fired him to this, I get the feeling that you’ve never worked a day in your life, or you just don’t have the slightest idea of how to treat people.
Whoa.. I never said they treated Willie fairly. They did an ATROCIOUS job, BUT I don’t think it was as bad as some people made it out to be. Ken rosenthal said it was one of the biggest atrocities in the history of baseball. ESPN compared it to the Colts leaving Baltimore. I mean c’mon.
As for Manuel, he made a joke. poor taste? Possibly. But not as big of a deal. the Mets are a target rigth now. everything said will come under scrutiny.
As for me never working, I have always worked, since i was 14 years old (I am 30 now). I am the child of immagrents from Italy and raised to always work and to always treat people with respect. maybe there was another Franco on here, or you got me confused with someone else
Franco: Please accept my apologies.
Steve: Not a problem at all
