Reyes gets hurt on the 1st play of the game… are you kidding me?

  2. pvhornet05

Josh, I was about to say the same thing.

  3. John Delcos

They can’t blame Willie for that one.-JD

  4. tomg

What a great manager. Reyes has a little tweak, tells manuel he is fine after running to check his knee and than manuel tells reyes to sit . it was obvious reyes said he was fine and manuel tells him your out. I don’t blame reyes for being mad. This whole situation is a cluster f@@ck!!!!

  5. Gil in Savannah, GA

Angels TV announcers Rory Markas and Mark Gubicza are already mocking Omar Minaya at his press conference earlier today, as they played the clip of Omar saying: “I believe Willie Randolph will get another managing job. I believen he SHOULD get another managing job.”
“Yeah,” Markas said, “I guess just not the one he had.”
Gubicza then clowned Minaya for saying the move “isn’t about Willie Randolph.”
“Obviously, it’s about Willie Randolph,” Gubicza said, then added that none of the myriad managerial changes he experienced in Kansas City when he pitched for them turned the Royals around.

  6. Stillsane

Manuel is right in taking Reyes out even if he did not think it was that bad. He wanted to rest him soon any way. Why not when Reyes obviously felt something enough to get Manuel out there to begin with. Rather Reyes rest a day or two than spend 15 or more on the DL.

  7. Gil in Savannah, GA

    Uh-oh.
    There goes the season.
If Reyes comes out of this game, we’re officially toast.
Oh, well at least new first base coach Ken Oberkfell is making himself useful.
Oh, wow. Nice to see Manuel has the respect of his players, as Reyes stalks away from him and then throws away his helmet.
    Welcome to the madness, Jerry.

  8. Gil in Savannah, GA

The Jerry Manuel Era is not looking so bright so far…

  9. tomg

There is our great ace on the mound. I’m sorry but as usual the Mets were had when dealing for Santana. Reyes storming off the field makes me believe the one blogger who posted that reyes and delgado were the cancer of the club house, I now believe it.

  10. Josh

Thanks Delgado, you worthless piece of dirt…

    New manager, same old team….

  11. Jesse

Hopefully the players back up Manuel on this one. I don’t know if Reyes was OK or not, but when the manager tells you you’re coming out as a precaution, you don’t throw a temper tantrum—especially in the manager’s first game, for goodness’ sake. And as a manager, when one of your franchise players tweaks something, if there’s any doubt as to whether he’s OK, you take him out.

  12. tomg

I love it. This team blows the same, Omar Minaya, your day is coming.

  13. Gil in Savannah, GA

tomg: Nothing is obvious about Reyes’s tweak. Ryan Church recently said he was good to go, too, a few weeks ago and look what happened. We’re not in Reyes’s body and we don’t know if whatever he tweaked could aggravate itself.
And there’s no excuse for Reyes’s on-field pouty petulance, showing up his boss.
Think a manager like Frank Robinson would tolerate BS like that? He’d be in the clubhouse with Reyes right now, beating him with a belt like he was his daddy.

  14. Stillsane

Where was Easley? Jerry Manuel’s hair looks more gray than at his press conference. Welcome to the big chair of the USS Mets (AKA the Titanic). Just look for the big door to float on.

  15. Josh

Tomg: I know you hate Santana, but he had a 2.87 ERA before this start, and he’s been terrific the last month, so he really doesn’t deserve to get killed for one bad start…

  16. Jesse

tomg, don’t be ridiculous. Santana’s ERA in his last 3 starts is under 1. And he’s known to be a better 2nd half pitcher than 1st.

  17. tomg

The braves that has a pitching staff on the dl pitched better than the mets against the angels and the braves have had all kinds of injuries to there starting and bull pen pitching. This team blows and I don’t care who manges this team. Omar Minaya is nothing but a politician (full of crap)and is the reason why this team stinks. I have had enough of reyes. if i was a GM I would look to trade reyes.

  18. TheGuvlovestheMets

Gil I agree. Reyes was wrong but now the new manager has a test of his leadership with his players way before he should have to. He can’t let it go. But if he loses Reyes this team can’t take 3 months of the puting Jose.

  19. tomg

I am in a mean mood. I’ve been a met fan my entire life and I am fed up with this team so excuse me if i get belligerent towards this team.

  20. tomg

    TheGuvlovestheMets,

Reyes has been out of control since last year. This is not new news. If they can’t straighten out reyes’s attitude than trade him.

  21. Gil in Savannah, GA

tomg: Hey, I understand you’re being pissed. But like my dad says, it’s better to laugh than to cry—as I was doing inside after NLCS Game 7 in 2006.
So much bad stuff has happened to this team since the Molina home run, tomg, it’s almost comical. Our lives could be a helluva lot worse than our favorite baseball team blowing.

  22. tomg

This met organization is a mess. When Doubleday wanted out and sold his share i knew this organization was in trouble. This is the new silver spoon son running the team which i said was the way this team was run and i remember JD before this year started told me that wasn’t the case. I am a new yorker and you can’t bull s@@t me. this is the silver spoon duce bag running this team.

  23. Kevin

You have had enough of Reyes? Is there anything you are not mad about? Alright have Minaya trade Reyes, or fire Minaya and whoever replaces him will trade Reyes and then when the nobody prospects we get for him are scratching away at AAA and Reyes is hitting 330 on some pennant winner I’m sure you’ll crucify that move… You live off the deep end

  24. Gil in Savannah, GA

Speaking of comical, there’s Keith on the phone, with his voice sounding even more girly on the phone, stepping on TV ad time and there’s a shot of new coach Luis Aguayo, sporting No. 51—sure didn’t take long to give The Jacket’s number away, or re-issue Tom Nieto’s No. 55 to new coach Ken Oberkfell either, did it?

  25. edfever

doesn’t look like anyone slept last night- Reyes has got to be kidding us with that show in the first. Santana gets beat up, Delgado does his classic failure to bend over and easley forgets to cover a base…....

  26. Gil in Savannah, GA

Kevin: Omar should trade Reyes, then sign Omar Vizquel to a seven-year deal! ;)

  27. TheGuvlovestheMets

Maybe tom but before I’d trade him or Wright there would be a whole new team in place including staff and front office. I also understand your frustration with this club. I’ve been a fan their whole life and it doesn’t end. A couple good years and a self destruct mechanism goes off each time differently. I really don’t care about whether Manuel or Randolph is in the dugout, its just that this team doesn’t have a plan that lasts for more than 30 seconds. And this last week was just another example of it.

  28. tomg

    Kevin,

I hope you were kidding when you said trade reyes for a nobody prospect. Who ever said that, no, you be a good GM and trade him for someone comparable, not some wasted prospect, common man, geez!!!

  29. edfever

JD – whats the story on the third base coach he seems to have come out of nowhere…

  30. tomg

“Kevin: Omar should trade Reyes, then sign Omar Vizquel to a seven-year deal! ;)”

I am now sorry I even mentioned trading reyes, you guys are killing me!!!

  31. dave

Hopefully Reyes gets at least fined for his actions. If he acts out and is not punished then the new mgr needs to get fired.

  32. Gil in Savannah, GA

edfever: Luia Aguayo played infield for the Phillies in the ‘80s.

  33. tomg

Reyes needs a good swift kick in the ass. I don’t like his attitude.

  34. TheGuvlovestheMets

Santana’s problem in the first was turning around and seeing Easley at SS, Tatis at 3B and Anderson in LF and he was trying to hard to figure out how to keep all the balls on the other side of the field, and then the ball found Delgado. I’m surprised he didn’t have a fit and follow Reyes into the clubhouse.

  35. Kevin

Say what you will about what Reyes did, it was wrong and it showed up the manager, but at least he has passion to be out there and play… you could tell by the way he stormed off the damn field that he was alright… No way the scene playing out there did not impact the bottom of the inning. Its like little mikey going to school after walking in on mom and dad going to work in the bedroom, no way he’s passing his test in first period.

  36. Stillsane

Marlon Anderson – the total package.

  37. tomg

well, it’s amazing but the phillies lost, braves and florida are losing and the Mets still have a shot at this division. There out fieled is hideous.

  38. edfever

I knew that I was wondering where his pick came from he’s not a name you hear much in the organization

  39. Gil in Savannah, GA

How ‘bout this for new Mets on-field leadership:
    Peter Griffin as manager.
Joe as bench coach—in his situation he’d never have to leave the field.
Glenn Quagmire coaching third (he’s always bragging about getting to third base).
    Cleveland as first base coach.
Brian, with his superior intellect and anayltical skills as pitching coach.

  40. paulunde

Man. I can’t believe the start to this one, but I still believe we’ll be in it at the end. I think the players care. They have made some bonehead plays but I am not ready to trade Reyes or trash Santana. I am not too sure if Delgado will be on this club for too much longer though. He better find his swing and start doing a much better job defensively or I could see the Mets saying goodbye to him. Now that Omar may be on the firing line desperate measure may be taken.

    The soap opera lives on!!

  41. PJH

    New manager. Same team.

  42. John Delcos

Gil: Thanks for making us laugh. Priceless.-JD

  43. paulunde

Gluv you crack me up! That’s probably what Ron Darling is thinking but would not dare say! You really painted quite a lovely picture with that one.

  44. tomg

This sounds crazy but if church can come back healty, Alou also, big if and the mets can stay healthy. I do believe they can still win this division. Call me crazy but I just got this feeling it’s attainable.

  45. Stillsane

Gil – Stewie would be the owner.

  46. John Delcos

    No word yet on Reyes.-JD

  47. tomg

Lets blame this on the mets fielder, it can’t be that Santana is getting hit hard, what a joke.

  48. Gil in Savannah, GA

JD: Thanks, I’ll be here all week!

  49. edfever

Santana has given up four runs all with two outs

  50. tomg

I’m sorry fellow met fans. I haven’t seen any signs that tell me santana is this great ace making how much?

  51. John Delcos

tomg: When the Mets were in Denver a few weeks ago I wrote they should bench Reyes for a game or two when his attitude went unchecked. I got roasted for that.-JD

  52. Joe D.

okay, so who’s exhausted and mentally shot besides me?

  53. Josh

..... Yes, Santana has pitched terribly so far tonight, but this is his 1st bad start in a while, but I forgot; according to some people, $138 million means you have to be perfect every start, otherwise you get your balls ripped out by anonymous fans…

  54. John Delcos

    I am.-JD

  55. tomg

I know this is really going to hurt but the next Santana is????

Kazmir, he is the next Santana while the real Santana is now going to pitch for the mets between the age of 30-35, geez I got a stomach ache.

  56. Joe D.

    I can imagine JD…

I was hoping that Kevin Burkhardt would have broken in on the broadcast by now with some sense about what happened in the first innning

  57. Gil in Savannah, GA

Boy that new pitching guru Dan Warthen is something.
In his new Mets uniform, he looks like a toll booth collector masquerading as a baseball player.
And check his career pitching resume:
    Hmmm…
    A 2-10 won-lost record and 5.30 ERA with the ‘76 Expos…
A walk to strikeout ratio of 43 walks to 27 strikeouts the next year…
And no wins in five tries in his last year, 1978.
Now that inspires confidence, does it not?
Oh, there Warthen is now, imparting wisdom on the bench to Johan Santana.
Johan, you should put an index finger in each ear and loudly say “lalalalalalalala!” every time this man attempts to advise you.
He’s no Rick “Tuscany Tile” Peterson.

  58. Joe D.

wow tomg, you are really reaching back for the source of your headache. We gotta forget Kazmir already, and Nolan Ryan too…

  59. John Delcos

``Tuscany Tile.’’ That will go down as one of the great quotes of all time.-JD

  60. Joe D.

Man that Peterson was way out there. He’s sounded like one of those Harri Krishna followers, all he needed was the white robe and tambourine, and a girl hopping around throwing rose petals in the air..

  61. tomg

Yea Joe D, I know, I got diarrhea thinking about it. This team blows and I blame Omar Minaya. Where is Tiffany, she wanted Willie gone. Tiffany, do you see a difference in this team, if so, elaborate. I would love to hear your opinion.

  62. Gil in Savannah, GA

Meanwhile, my Lakers are getting crushed. Down by 27 with less than a minute to go in the 3rd.

  63. TheGuvlovestheMets

So if Reyes is hurt, is Easley our SS or do we go to Minaya’s very talented farm system to bring up…. Anderson Hernandez and his 1 something batting average? If Reyes is not hurt does Jerry bench him for a couple days or suspend him? I’m into this new manager stuff now. We have a new soap opera! Will the new boss gain the respect of his legion of spoiled brats or will he lose the clubhouse on night one? tune into the fan to hear the controversy rage.

  64. tomg

By the way, the new coaching staff looks like they all just got out of the hospital for some sort of disease, diabetes, etc…

  65. Gil in Savannah, GA

Joe D: Peterson hopped a magic carpet to the Texas plains, where he hopes to recruit devotees to a ketchup-on-ice cream eating cult.

  66. Jesse

Jose back in dugout smiling and chatting with Manuel. That’s good to see on multiple levels.

  67. tomg

My suggestion to Peterson is to lay off the Marijuana, especially the hydro. It could alter your perception of the situation.

  68. Gil in Savannah, GA

    Jesse:
    Here are the levels:
    1)Reyes is an immature brat
2)Reyes is lucky his manager didn’t send him back to the hotel for stamping his feet earlier
3)Reyes should be contrite and solemn, not acting as if he’s Will, clowning on “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”

  69. tomg

F@@k Reyes, I’ve had it with that spoil brat.

  70. tomg

Wow, i love it, on a different topic it’s great to see the celtics kick the living crap out of the lakers and Bryant. I love it, screw LA!!!!

  71. Stillsane

Peterson was last seen at the airport describing the importance of a good hard wood to whoever would listen, and listening to “Incense and Peppermints” on his IPOD. He is trying to get directions to Austin Power’s Shagadelic pad.

  72. Jesse

    Gil—the levels I meant were:

    1) Given that he was smiling, he’s probably not hurt seriously, which is good.
    2) While I agree that his conduct in the 1st was totally unacceptable, I’m glad that he returned to the dugout and appeared to be apologetic (I’m watching the Angels feed, so they only showed a couple shots).

  73. Uncle Leo

HELLO JERRY!! HOW COME YOU RAN DOWN TO TALK TO REYES?! WHAT! ARE YOU TOO GOOD FOR THE GAME?! YOUR COUSIN JEFFREY WORKS IN THE PARKS DEPARTMENT! MAYBE HE CAN GET WILLIE A JOB! I ALWAYS KNEW YOU LOVED HIM!

  74. tomg

OK met fans, here is something to think about. Santana will be pitching for the mets the next 5 years between the age of 30-35. His fastball is already down from 95 to now 90-92. It will only get worse from here. How well do you think this guy will pitch for the mets?

  75. John Delcos

Reyes left the game with stiffness in his left hamstring. Day-to-day. ... On another note, I couldn’t agree more with tomg. Go Celtics. Just can’t stomach the Lakers and that smug Phil Jackson.-JD

  76. tomg

    JD,
I knew there was a reason why I liked your blog, keep it going man, your ok in my books and I don’t care what they say about you.

  77. Gil in Savannah, GA

Stillsane: LOL! on your Peterson take.
Jesse: For his sake, I hope he apologized. What other work environment can you think of—besides the Mets dugout—where an employee can embarrass the boss and throw objects around and not get sanctioned for it?
I guarantee you if I tried a stunt like that tomorrow at work, I’d expect to be posting a resume on monster.com by 5 p.m.

  78. Uncle Leo

JERRY, HELLO! HAVEN’T I ALWAYS BEEN A GOOD UNCLE TO YOU?! NOW GO OUT THERE AND WIN!

  79. Josh

I think Santana will be a very good pitcher for the Mets throughout his tenure… He has very good command, and he seems like the guy who could make the necessary changes to compensate for losing something (Like Pedro, except less injury prone)

Sigh… my Lakers are losing by 36… WTG Kobe, way to freaking go…

  80. Uncle Leo

ohk go jerry go on with your fancy game, just leave your uncle leo alone.

  81. tomg

It’s ironic, half my cousin’s and family are from Brooklyn, NY, the other half are from Boston. Lets go Celtics and red sox!!!!!

  82. Newman

    Jerry, Im a little insulted

  83. Elaine

    Jerry, are you sponge worthy?

  84. tomg

Nah, nah, nah, nah, nah, Hey, hey, good bye!!!!!!!!

  85. Kramer

Jerry, Luis Castillo is not a midget, he is a little person!

  86. Admiral Adama

Sometimes, you’ve gotta roll the hard six.

  87. matt B in AZ

so when does the “fire jerry” movement start?

  88. Uncle Leo

Jerry! Ryan Church is an Anti-Semite!

  89. tomg

    How about “Fire Omar Minaya”

  90. Met Head

I think SNY”S Kevin Burkhart just got himself another year of sitting in the ball parks eating free food and getting paid a boat load of money after giving his loving butt kissing about how bad Omar feels.

  91. tomg

Kevin Burkhart is just another a@@ kissing, butt f@@king mets employer.

  92. Admiral Adama

Met Head: The whole time Burkhardt was talking about how Omar found it so difficult to fire Willie, I’m thinking, he had a choice, he didn’t have to fire him.
Then I forgot about Jeff’s hand inside a slot inside Omar’s back, manipulating him…

  93. Gil in Savannah, GA

tomg: How do you REALLY feel about Kevin Burkhardt?

  94. Met Head

5-1 I can se Willie now.. Sitting in front of his TV, drinking a beer, smoking a big cigar and happy he is out of this mess.

  95. tomg

I’ve never seen a team my entire life get there butt handed to them like the Lakers are getting tonight, unbelievable!!!!. I love it, it’s awesome. How do you like me now Phil Jackson?

  96. Met Head

I hear Jeff Wilpon is giving free tours of the new stadium in the morning.

  97. tomg

Well, our ace was pitching tonight. What a ace, he is worth 22 million, not. Mets organization is still the laughing stock of the the major leagues. Do not blame the messenger, blame the organization!!!!!

  98. Bob

Gil In Savannah – wow I thought we ended this crappo, TOMG IS ENTITLED TO HIS OPINION no need to be disrespectful and publicly bash him?

  99. Gil in Savannah, GA

John Lackey is putting on a pitching clinic tonight: Five out of seven innings throwing 10 pitches or less and not one 20-pitch frame. Talk about economizing.
And what an arsenal of pitches.

  100. Met Head

I hear Jeff Wilpon is leaking news about firing Giuesspe Franco.

  101. TheGuvlovestheMets

tom I’m glad for you that you have something tonight beside this so called major league baseball team to watch. I just want to know when that Giant/Redskin game is?

  102. Gil in Savannah, GA

Just when I thought it was safe to post a friendly, innocent joke out to another member…there’s Bob!
    How’s it going tonight?
Glad you’re staying up late with all of us other Mets masochists.

  103. matt B in AZ

can anyone honestly expect the mets to win this game- losing a manager- regardless of how good/bad the decision was- causes turmoil and a lot of emotion. it was almost a given that they were going to lose this one. as well as the next 92…

  104. tomg

    Gil in Savannah, GA,

Don’t get crazy, I didn’t take your post to be disrespectful. I know you man, your a good guy, your a die hard met fan like myself and a true blogger team mate.

  105. Gil in Savannah, GA

BREAKING NEWS: MOISES ALOU HAS BEEN MOVED FROM THE 15-DAY TO THE 60-DAY DL. HE FRACTURED HIS INDEX FINGER USING THE TV REMOTE THIS AFTERNOON WHILE WATCHING THE OMAR MINAYA PRESS CONFERENCE.

  106. Gil in Savannah, GA

    tomg: right back at’cha, brother!

  107. Stillsane

    Met Head

No, not Giuseppe Franco! Who else is going to sponsor that product that makes it look like they are growing a Chia Pet on their head?

  108. Met Head

Wow, I never knew pitchers could go more then 6 innings in baseball.

  109. tomg

“Gil in Savannah, GA June 18th, 2008 at 12:04 am

BREAKING NEWS: MOISES ALOU HAS BEEN MOVED FROM THE 15-DAY TO THE 60-DAY DL. HE FRACTURED HIS INDEX FINGER USING THE TV REMOTE THIS AFTERNOON WHILE WATCHING THE OMAR MINAYA PRESS CONFERENCE.”

I love it, priceless man, just priceless!!!!!

  110. TheGuvlovestheMets

Everytime they show this g-d Angel manager I have flash backs to the 1988 playoffs.

  111. tomg

Hey, the good news is the braves, marlins and phillies lost.
The Mets still have a shot, imagine!!!!!

  112. Met Head

vargas is in the game thats my Q to go to bed. Good night all. Willie, where ever you are sleep tight the nightmare is over. T time is 8am, hit them long and straight.

  113. Gil in Savannah, GA

Our kinda year: A dribbler up the third base line hugs the line. To make it go foul, Tatis should’ve done what Eliot Spitzer’s ‘ho did: get down on his knees and blow.

  114. Syracuse Mets Fan

Time for some perspective here…or at least Black humor. Someone needs to start a poll…worst / most embarassing day in Mets history. I humbly submit my top 10:

    1) 6/17/08 Free Willie Day
    2) 7/30/04 a.k.a Black Friday – Kazmir for a Zamboni
    3) 10/26/00 – Mets Lose WS to Skanks in 5
    4) 7/27/93 – Brett Saberhagen sprays bleach at reporters in Mets clubhouse.
    5) 7/24/93 – Mets OF Vince Coleman tosses Firecracker at fans in Dodger Stadium parking lot..gets 3 yrs probation for felony charges.
    6) 7/7/93 – Brett (World;s Stupidest Man?) Saberhagen throws firecracker under a table near reporters…is quoted as saying “What are they going to do? Fine me?”
    7) 6/18/1989 – Dykstra and McDowell traded for Juan Strikeout…err, Samuel
    8) 6/15/1977 – Tom Seaver traded for a bag of balls
    9) 12/10/1971 – Nolan Ryan etal. for Jim Fregosi…and a bag o’ balls.
    10) 12/3/69 – Amos Otis / B Johnson (P) traded for Ken Foy and a tin of Redman dip (double bonus is that KC traded Johnson to get Freddie Patek!)

  115. Syracuse Mets Fan

The above were in chronological order…I think I got the dates right…..

I haven’t decided for myself yet…1993 was cumulatively the most embarassing year to be a Met fan. Thank god I was out of the country in the Navy most of the time.

  116. Syracuse Mets Fan

I’m beginning to lean towards today as being the worst…huge publicity over an amateurish move…new confirmation that the mets are owned & operated by circus clowns…a season of high hopes circling the bowl faster and faster…and the ever-present commercial face of the Mets / SNY : Guiseppe Franco in our faces nonstop. It’s like I took a Crazy Pill…

Remember all the warm/fuzzy glowing stories we heard about Omar and Willie and that even the Wilpons finally “got it” (har har…insert cliche here about old dogs and new tricks, etal.)? Someone even wrote a book about it…Omar saves the mets….Wilpon’s and Omar are signing all the big Veteran talent they used to shy away from….fast forward to 2008 and suddenly the rationale that the Kazmir for Zamboni trade was the final straw that “saved” the franchise by waking it up…insert manual buzzer—ERRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

As I drove home tonight and listened out of curiosity to Ma & Pa Pinstripe as they trashed the Mets tonight (for humiliating “their guy” Willie), as the Skanks were clubbing some loser… I couldn’t help but fear that this is really….”Back To The Future”!?

  117. Gecko

Count me in as another longtime Mets fan (four decades) who’s been reduced to rooting for them to lose. It’s the only way we’ll be rid of Minaya and be able to get the organisation headed back in the right direction. Manuel isn’t a “fresh start”. Dumping Omar and Tony would be.

  118. Taylor

The Red Sox are owned by John Henry right? I mean it starts at the top. I don’t think Omar is the brightest bulb in the circuit. He’s not the worst GM ever or even in recent Mets history to be fair. He’s done some good things. But he’s not a good GM either. What in his track record indicated that he would be? Nothing really. Wasn’t there talk of hiring Billy Beane away from Oakland? I mean the Wilpons must be stupid. Hey the have a lot of money so maybe they aren’t that stupid but they sure seem stupid to me. They don’t know s#$t about baseball. Really the basic rules of GMing are, get players coming into their prime, get rid of players while you can still get something for them, take players from other teams when they don’t realize their true value. Omar convinced the Wilpons to spend $$. That’s really his biggest triumph as GM. Pedro, Beltran, Wagner, Delgado and now Johan. But those were well-known superstars. Aside from that he’s really not done much that merits praise. Based on his track record there was no reason to think that he would. I think he thought that because he is hispanic that he could convince all the best hispanic free agents to sign with the Mets and that would be his secret weapon. What we really need is a GM with real talent for talent evaluation and team construction. Not a politician (good description whoever said it).

TomG—Thanks for your kind words uttered while I was getting my beauty rest.

If I may say so, your posts we’re all over the board last night: You went from saying Reyes needs a kick in the ass, to they can win the division with Church and Alou healthy, to there’s no change in this team. Personally, I think all three of your thoughts here are interconnected. A right-thinking Reyes, along with the return of their corner outfielders, should put them back in the hunt—but it’s not going to happen overnight, in one game.

All that being said, Manuel’s little confrontation with Reyes could be something of a turning point for this team. Looking beyond the shortstop’s theatrics, the subtle message may be that the inmates will no longer be running the asylum.

Well I was about half right in prediction of score (12-3). Santana gives a stinker and Mets can’t he Lackey (not that anybody has this yr)....

Maybe the 1950s glasses pitching coach can get the coin flip to flip the right way tonite….

    Tiffany,

The inmates were not running the Asylum under Willie. They just are not that good. Look, the fans ran Willie out of town. Omar did him a great favor by getting him out of this nightmare. He has way to much class to put up with all of this. There is no team chemistary, you can blame Willie all you want,, But, when players hit and pitch they win, when they don’t they lose. When Joe Torre won all those rings he ran the same 8 players out there all the time. Real geinus right? Wille has 5 rings, you think he may know a little bit about the game? Any good team needs grinders, Willie was a grinder, I think he knows what type of player it takes to win. This team is like the Snyder Washington Redskins of a couple years ago, lots of older players with big names with no heart to grind out a season

Breaking News: Omar Minaya has mafia hit put on the Wilpon family. The team is then bought out by Raul Castro and renamed Los Latinos. Omar is then given absolute power over the team and trades away the remaining minority of non-hispanic Mets for latino prospects. Willie was right this team was run off of race.

But seriously, some of these guys like Reyes need to get there stuff together. Reyes showed up his new manager during a game, and that shouldnt fly by any means. I guess when you take away a guy everyone liked its kind of inevitable. Lets just hope this team clicks and maybe a little chemistry suddenly comes out of no where.

I would suggest to many of you to take it easy (or Prozac). Tomg – I am not a prude but since this a sports forum you should tone down the language. Even though you don’t spell it out any kids that show up will see it and know.

Guv – I want to further apologise to you for jumping all over you yesterday. It was unwarranted. Won’t happen again.

I am probably not going to be coming back as much. This blog has gone from an upbeat assemssment of an imperfect team to just down right mean to the personell and players of the Mets. There were not not many thoughtful critiques (Exception – JD) in this blog last night and hasn’t been for a while. I have come in many times in the middle of a good win just to find the same stuff.

In ‘06 it was an entirely different place to be. People pulled for their team here, not bashed everything about it all night long. I am more an optomist. I watch every game and get enjoyment out of baseball and the Mets.

I am not going to lecture you on what you should and shouldn’t blog, your right to do how you feel. My right not to participate.

I used to enjoy the debate and trade discussions and all the other topics here. And I am not being polyannish, I really think that there should be criticism but just go back and read through your posts.

If I were a NY Met, and many of you, and the booers at Shea, were my fans? I’d leave the first chance I could. I mean who would want to excel for this?

I am not leaving with hard feelings. And I will check back in from time to time. I love JDs blogging but this is really bringing me down, thus my frustration with the Guv yesterday which was out of character for me.

THis is supposed to be fun. So I wish you all fun!!!

    clm –

Sorry to see you go, but I understand – I’ve been here since the beginning of the blog as well, and John’s knowledge and writing are the only thing I want to see here now.

Thanks Annie – Always enjoyed your posts as well.
