My confidence is definitely not as strong as it was, but there are a few key reasons why I think this team still isn’t as dead as others think.
1) IF Pedro can stay healthy, I expect him to pitch effectively, meaning a 1-2-3 of Santana, Pedro and Maine can help avoid losing streaks. It doesn’t always work that way (see this past weekend), but if all pitch the way they’re capable, more often than not, the Mets won’t be suffering any 3-4 game skids
2) The bullpen, outside of Wagner’s implosion the other day, has been pitching very effectively for several weeks now.
7.5 games out on June 10 is far from insurmountable, and there is the Wild Card to consider as well. You just can’t jump ship on a team when there are 100 games left. I don’t expect lightning to strike twice, but did anyone here last year expect the Mets to blow a 7-game lead with 17 left to play? They’re a .5 game further back…with 100 to play, plus 12 H2H games still with the Phillies, who I might add, they are 4-2 against thus far.
This team has flaws…flaws that must be addressed now or in the offseason, but the talent-level is still to strong to write them off so quickly.
That being said, why is Alou hitting BEHIND Delgado? I mean, I actually like Randolph…but he does things sometimes that make it impossible to defend him, and this is one.
So Delgado has 6 hits in his last two games…do you really think this is going to erase the memories of his previous year and 2+ months of crap?? Beltran still won’t get a pitch to hit…and BTW, when Alou is healthy, HE is the one I’d stick in the cleanup spot with Beltran at two and Wright at three.
Mike, considering that Delgado is perfect against Owings in 2 at bats I see why Willie put him in the 5 hole. Of course I am kidding but do we really want 3 LH in the 6, 7 and 8 hole?
I’m sorry this year Delgado is hitting a 1.000 against Owings. In his career he is hitting .400.
Somebody please tell me why Nunez is still on the Mets.
Good question nymetsgrrl94. He must have been promised the job for so long.
Nunez is still on the team? Get rid of him and call up Aguila.
Goodbye to the Days of Wine and Roses…again.
Nunez is outta here. But don’t expect Aguila. Expect 0 for 13 Jose Valentin to come back to Shea.
Jeff H: Well I’ll be damned. Chris Aguila was called up in replacement of Nunez! Thank goodness. The season is now officially saved. :-)
