Coin Flip goes for the Mets tonight. He’s had three straight stinkers, so maybe he’s due. Willie Randolph chewed him out after his last start. Pedro Martinez has been talking with him this week, but admits talk is cheap and “it’s up to him to do it.’’

Perez isn’t a bad guy. He’s very sensitive. “I want to do well, believe me,’’ he told me after the Giants game.
The issue isn’t me believing Perez wants to do well, but whether Perez believes he can do well.

This team is just plain mediocre. Im sorry but they are just not good. The Padres are 26-37…they are a CRAP team. There is no excuse for being in this position. You can talk “good pitching” all you want but the Padres were 13 games under .500 coming into this series and they just took 3 games against us and we’ve only scored 1 run each game…that is pathetic. These guys just suck. There is nothing more to it and I think we should realize that unless some sort of major move is made (be it firing the manager or bringing in someone who actually cares to hit) this team is going no where
This is kind of ridiculous. Willie ain’t much of a manager. But the real culprit is Minaya. Like others have suggested, he is the guy who put this mess together. This is a club with lots of talent but no guts – which is a nice way of saying something else. The club showed us what a bunch of chokers they were in the St. Louis series two years back. Their best player is out with a concussion and there really is not a clutch hitter in the lineup after Church. I’ll probably harp on this again, but I heard an interview with Rick Down after his release. He said that during the playoffs against the Cardinals he could see the players were “squeezing” the bats and basically choking under pressure. I believe that much of this team is scared to death when the game is on the line. Wright, Beltran, Reyes, Delgado,,, There is not a clutch hitter to be found within miles of this bunch.
It is only June, but if there is not a sudden dramatic change, who is going to believe in this team anymore?
30-31.
If 90 wins is needed for playoffs, Mets have to go 60-41. Don’t see it happening when you can’t win on the road against bads teams.
Like I said many times on this blog this year. This team has been mediocre since the end of june last year. People kept disputing that it was early blah, blah, blah. To me it was obvious that this was not a good team after the first month of this season and I haven’t seen anything that has changed my mine. I don’t care what anybody says, Omar Minaya has done a bad job and if anybody should be fired it’s Omar and his crew.
Wilpons need to wake up because between Duquette and Minaya they have killed this franchise.
So after all those awesome deals Minaya made, the team has regressed. 170 games of mediocrity tells it all. Minaya built a fantasy league team, a team that could with stand no injuries because he decimated the system behind those 25 very fragile bodies. Last year we had young, maybe not ready for prime time, but certainly excited and enthusuastic subs to fill in for the old timers. This year we have older more worn out back ups to fill in. They give you 3 good games and they are toast. Well, it shows. Early June and fading fast. And to all those demanding he make more deals, dealing is pretty hard when even teams like the Reds and Pirates are about equal to our mighty Mets, and feel they have just as good a chance to make the wild card as Minaya’s mighties do.
Where have all the Minaya defenders gone??????
