If we were in another moment in time, the Mets might night have won yesterday. We’ve seen the Mets get burned a few times when Willie Randolph goes to the pen early.
Yesterday, the Mets parlayed the pinch-count hysteria to a win.
So, instead of trying to salvage the homestand, the Mets have the chance to take three of four from LA and five of seven overall. Not bad.
Mike Pelfrey pitched well enough yesterday to warrant staying in the rotation when Pedro Martinez comes back, but so has Claudio Vargas. I wouldn’t want to lose Vargas, especially considering there’s no guarantee on either Pelfrey or Martinez.
