Mets Chat Room: Sophistication on trial tonight.

May
26

So, how are the most sophisticated sports fans in the world going to behave tonight. Will they have the pack mentality and boo Willie Randolph and the players they claim to love, or will they recognize their team is hurting and in dire need of some sugar?

Let me ask you. If you have a pet at home, do you jeer him, belittle him, scream at him, or scratch his ears?

I can tell by some of the vile comment on here that there are plenty of dog beaters out there that will probably be at Shea tonight.

We’ve had this topic before, and I still don’t understand. Unless they don’t hustle or are genuine bad people, why boo? And, why boo Randolph because his hitters are in a funk and a half-dozen vital players are hurt?

If somebody can give me a good explanation why you would boo somebody for not playing well, I am all ears. If you want to boo somebody, boo your politicians. Boo companies that offer poor service.

The word is New York has the world’s most sophisticated sports fans who really understand the game.

We’ll see.

oh my god another preachy writer. Yeah let’s cheer a team that plays like they care less. Maybe when Delgado boots a grounder we can giving him a standing o after he doesn’t hustle after the ball. This team is heartless and ggutless but it’s the fans fault. I love preachy people like you and Chris Russo.

  2. graves9

does Delgado hustle John well? Does Castillo. Does half the team even care about winning or losing? I understand you probably think Yankee fans are better than Met fan but don’t forget Arod was booed the entire ‘06 season after he won the mvp in ‘05.

  3. Josh

I don’t think I’ve ever seen the words “sophisticated” and “New York sports fan” in the same sentence before…

As for the booing… I guess fans delude themselves into thinking that booing will somehow have positive effects on the players, when in fact, more often than not, the opposite is true..

  4. graves9

When the Cards stink and the fans still cheer does it do anything good? Of coarse not. The team has played like dogs since last june. They price of tickets have sky rocketed coming off a disgraceful season.I see Delgado lost it with a fan maybe he could show that kind of passion on the field. Oh wait forget it. Btw nobody here said anything vile.

Comparing people who boo to Vick is pretty sick. If my dog craps the rug I aint scratching it’s ears.

  6. sam

i’m busy beating my dog can’t watch the game sorry

  7. Tiffany

I didn’t know the Mets were like dogs to me. I thought we enjoyed more of a customer-business relationship. Let me know when I can take Carlos Delgado for a walk.

  8. TheGuvlovestheMets

Maybe not dogs, but pets none the less. JK, who acts like he knows everything, reiterates more than once that Pelfrey as Minaya’s pet. So now we know, Pelfrey is a dog.

  9. TheGuvlovestheMets

Listening to this stuff about Church’s head, I guess its Willie’s fault that Minaya won’t put him on the DL. A week after a concussion he’s going to a specialist. I guess Willie wouldn’t let him go to the specialist. Don’t the Mets provide health insurance to their players?

  10. Josh

Pelfrey is such a piece of cr@p, what in god’s name did the Mets see in this headcase??

  11. Joe D from Mets Merized Online

    ouch!

  12. Joe D from Mets Merized Online

Endy misplayed that ball in the corner in the second, and now he lollygagged it out there with that throw to the plate.

  13. Tiffany

But don’t boo Endy because that wouldn’t be sophisticated. Instead, scratch him behind the ears and give him a pig ear to chew on.

  14. Alex L

i agree with whoever said that if their dog crapped on the carpet, they wouldnt scratch its ears. the bottom line is that willie needs to not only be booed, he needs to be fired and removed from the organization completely. this team can’t win with him as manager, and now i’m not so sure they can win PERIOD. after tonght, the florida marlins will be 10 games over .500 and we will be 3 games UNDER. this is a nightmare and i don’t think omar or anyone in the ownership is going to wake up and end it anytime soon.

  15. Josh

Alex: What makes you think this team would win with a different manager?

  16. Ray Sadecki

Maybe the Wilpons will get it when Mets fans stay home like they did in the late 70s and early 80s. Mettle the mule was there to entertain us because the team couldnt. At least that weak team hustled. I hate this team. Reyes just let another one pass. Can we send him to AAA. Oh never mind, we have no one to take his place. AAAAARRRGGGGHHHHH!!!!

  17. Alex L

josh- i didn’t say they WOULD win with a different manager, they’d only have a better chance.

  18. TheGuvlovestheMets

Met fans aren’t staying home. They all want to go to the new ball park.
Good question Alex. I’m sure Josh doesn’t have a clue how to answer because you can’t win with this team.
You see its also Willie’s fault that the pitching coach can’t get Pelfrey to overcome his fear of pitching which is not a good thing unless he’s planning to become a fielder and since he can’t hit, that won’t work either.

  19. Josh

How many freaking DPs can Castillo ground into? It’s sickening….

  20. Ray Sadecki

    Hey Guv,

Its not Pelfrys fault that the team behind him sux. A 3 run double because our gold glove center fielder went back on a bloop? God, How this team will take the life out of the most loyal Mets fans. Pelf pitched well enough. He had no help.

  21. TheGuvlovestheMets

Hey Ray; Its not his fault the team behind him sucks, but its his fault he sucks. But it doesn’t matter everything this tam does wrong is because of Willie. This is the best team in the world and if only we had anybody but Willie we’d be 40-10 now, without a doubt. Because they all play lousy because of Willie, right.

  22. TheGuvlovestheMets

Do you guys know that Willie has special batting drills in Spring Training to teach the guys how to not get a hit with runners in scoring position.
