Willie just did his weekly radio interview with Mike and Chris on WFAN. It was very good and covered all that has happened over the past few days. WFAN will probably put it up on their site soon - listen to it. You may end up with a different perspective on the whole situation.

none of us are major league managers, the line up is sound, the line up is fine. -Plus, if endy gets 3 hits tonight, or luis does in the 8 hole, I doubt any of you wi be posting on here tomorrow saying how smart willie is, and Delgado's our 1b, deal with it

John, of the 4 games the Mets have played after moving Church out of the 2 hole, in how many was Ryan still in the lineup? A day off for Church shouldn't be counted here..

I did some number crunching, I can't see putting anybody besides church in the 2 hole... here's what i found.

the mets are 8-5 when church hits second.
the mets are 14-16 with anybody else hitting there.

they are 1-3 in games following a lineup change that moves church out of the 2 hole.

the mets score fewer runs per game with church in the two hole at 4.7 rpg as opposed to 5.2 rpg. however, the offense scores 4 or more runs per game more consistently with him in there at 77% of the time as opposed to just 65% of the time with him in other position in the batting order.

and lastly, the most compelling stat of all is regarding the guy who hits first all of the time... jose reyes is hitting .359 in games when ryan church is hitting second.

Yeah i know that, but its not like hes a career OFer or catcher...hes a 3rd basement by trade, so its not that difficult an adjustment. Corner IF means he knows the angles...its just a matter of holding the runner on and making the 3-6-3 DP throw (which we all know delgado has MASTERED!) Fielding bunts, cutoffs, etc. are just mirror images of 3rd. I bet he could handle it without a blip, especially considering the stud he'd be replacing.

Delgado is just so done, i can't stand it. Anyone who remotely mixes speeds can get him because he can no longer adjust. Thats why i think he was successful against the yanks in those few spots...Joba was just pumping 95 mph heaters and he eventually cheated on one and got a hit, and you know Wang is gonna throw sinkers at you 90% of the time. But a guy like Jurrjens (or in last nights case, Glavine, Ohman, Campillo, etc) who will throw slop at you half the time, he cant hit it. At all. Cheating on fastballs leaves him vulnerable to everything else, and his so-called "cheating" hasn't really done him much good, either.

Also, I wonder if hes really stubborn and won't listen to a HoJo, but anyone else notice a vast difference in stance and movement prior to the pitch this yr than, say, in '06? He moves and ticks so much now, while he was pretty still before. I looked at hightlights the other day and was shocked. I would HOPE someone has brought this to his attention...

Tatis has only played 5 games at first in the majors, otherwise, I agree completely. Anderson is not hitting. Hopefully, someone had a first baseman's glove on him in the minors.

Ugh no more Delgado. Shake it up a bit. Give Tatis a look there or something. 6-9 is a black hole of emptiness.

I agree with Taylor. Chavez has looked overmatched at the plate all year and has not had the success Castillo has had to this point in the season. I would rather see him hit eighth. I would also like to see Delgado, who continues to leave men on base, bat seventh. He is just not contributing on a regular basis to justify him batting any higher.

You should not bat a guy 2nd just because he is fast. Why do we have to adhere to all these stupid age-old conventions? Chavez should be batting 7th or 8th.
