Who are the worst fans in sports?

With the Mets at Yankee Stadium this week, it seems like a reasonable time to ask the question: Who are the most obnoxious fans in all of sports?
Philly fans have to rank right there with Yankees and Red Sox fans. If you have any other nominations, regardless of sport, let’s have them.
Be broadminded. Don’t forget followers of the Cowboys, those cheating Patriots and Duke hoops.

All fans of teams in the northeast. Just the a-hole attitudes every one has in this region. Philly is scum.
Can't stand Cowboys fans. I would also like to nominate Jets fans and Notre Dame football fans.
And on the flip side, I think New York Rangers fans are the best in all of sports.
Hands down – Philly fans. Whether they are Phillies, Eagles, Flyers, or Sixers fans, I'd rather get a root canal than have to sit in a section full of them for any major sporting event.
Yanks fans aren't that far behind, though. Although at least the Philly fans can name more than 4 players on their team.
You all got to be kidding…. The Metsies used to be goodfans, but they have far surpassed the Philthy fans and have become the # 1 "despicable" fans in the whole world…. If you don't believe me read your own posts even when they win, half the little Metsies are whining about something. And we all know why don't we…. It must suck to walk around your very own city, the biggest one in the whole US and knowthat most of the people looking at you are laughing at you because you are wearing your Metsie shirt or hat. And when you travel all over the world and you see people wearing those NY hats you know they ain't Metsie hats. Get over it Metsies, you're # 2 for a reason…... I don't care how bad my team is, at least we aren't bad fans like the Metsies, except for CLM, Tiffany, Mr Original, dave, and of course the suffering beat writer who longs for the day he gets a better job with a real team with good fans, Mr Delcos!!!!!!
Cleveland Browns fans. Especially the ones who bought Tim Couch jerseys before the guy even played a down of NFL football. History will show that Art Modell was a genius.
I have to say fans of a team that Boo their prize offseason catch on his first pitching performance are pretty damn pathetic. I am a huge Mets fan and always will be. But the booing of Johan was almost as bad as the booing of Beltran on opening day 2006. Seriously, we have some real dopes in the stands at Shea. Arguably as dopey as the fans in Philly. Yet, I don't think I have ever seen Met fans cheer an injury to the opposing team. Or boo when a player on the opposition is not hurt(read; Reyes in Philly this year). So, Philly is clearly the worst I have ever seen.
Tiffany: I know you're hunting for my goat on that last one. Baaaaa. Sorry. Won't happen. But, Modell is the face of evil to many.-JD
Damn. I was hoping you'd take that delicious bait…
Philly is probably the worst, but at least they're consistent. Met fans are just down right stupid, booing Johan his first start at Shea? Booing players during opening day introductions? The thing about Met fans is this supposed "sophistication" label they have, when a lot of them are just down right immature, stupid, and selfish. Hey, listen to me, i'm cool, i know how to boo! A lot fans actually think that they're booing is alerting players to their bad play. Like a player doesn't know he's in a slump, and then all of a sudden, they get booed, and they think, "oh! i must be in a slump, the fans are booing, I better start to hit now!" and then the next game they start hitting…yeah, that's how it works…
I go with Yankee fans.
The vast majority of them blather on about 26 championships because they are all the bandwagon fans that came aboard in the last 10-12 years. They also couldn't tell you that Tony Fernandez was the last SS before Jeter.
The "Let's Go Yank-ees" chant did not exist pre-1996 and my theory is that it was started by the same slugs who were bandwagon Rangers fans in 1994 when they won the cup. (The chant is exactly the same as "Lets Go Ran-gers.) In 94, everyone and their brother was suddenly a hockey fan and then they moved on to the Yankees when started winning in 96.
The Yankees fans that remember how bad the 80's were like are much humbler but also in the minority. Their reputation gets tarnished by the vocal majority.
Met fans on the road are excellent fans. What happens in Shea Stadium is beyond me because it is not a fun place to go anymore…. Philly is the worst. Been to a lot of baseball parks and the only that seem to be war zones are Philly and Shea. Even when I went to subway Series in Yankee Stadium it was a much more fun atmosphere than Shea has become.
I wish I could blather on about 26 championships. Don't you metsies?
oh metsfan. I wish I had written that before you did, but coming from a self proclaimed metsie its best. Why do you talk about yourself so harshly? These are your brothers and sisters.
Metsie… you mean it sounds like every other "Let's go [insert two syllable team name]" chant in all of sports?
Philadelphia fans are clearly the number one fan base that are drunken, belligerent, arrogant and nasty fans. I have to say that Boston is second, Yankees are third and the mets are fourth. But clearly Philadelphia fans are the worse.
It's a tie between Stankee fans and Philthy Fans.
Name any other fan to throw objects at their own players?
Philadelphia fans in general.. all trash
Keith,
" I think New York Rangers fans are the best in all of sports."
I've been a die hard ranger fan since the late 60's just like the mets.
I love taking the Long Island rail road in to games because all the ranger fans who don't even no each other become friends and party until we get to Penn station. There is nothing like going to a ranger game. I played hockey and hockey is my number one sport.
How many times have you heard this from a yankee fan " your teams a bunch of losers and so are thier fans'? or how about "wheres the rings?" I vote yankee fans.
I was at the first game in Philly this year and to see a group of fans give an injured player (Reyes) a stating ovation when he didn't get up was absolutely disgusting.
We went to the Sunday night game as well and it was the first road Mets game I ever went to where people waited outside the stadium to fight.
There's a certain Gnat fan who isnt a very good fan either. ;-)
tomg, I wish I played hockey growing up. There is nothing like a Rangers game at the Garden. I was at the game where they scored 3 goals in 90 seconds against the Devils and it was just as, if not more, electric than Shea was during the Endy catch. And that was a regular season game. I can't even imagine a playoff hockey game at the Garden… I would need to be resuscitated.
Oh Stevey C… You make me cry….. But you know Stevey C i can't beat on the little metsies more than you beat on each other and n your own team. I am a failure.
PS: Yankee fans are much nicer than Metsie fans…..
Keith,
I was at the game where Gretzky scored a hat trick in the playoffs against the Florida Panthers April 25, 1997. I sat 12 rows up right behind the net Gretzky scored all three goals. I will never forget that game for the rest of my life. When Gretzky scored that third goal I thought the roof was going to blow off.
DC,
"Yankee fans are much nicer than Metsie fans….."
That's a load of crap. I dare you to go on to a yankee blog and do what you do on this blog. The people on the yankee blog will not be as nice like the people on this blog, no way Mr. DC, no way. I dare you to try it. That statement shows you just like to tweak the met fans on this blog. I got your number Mr. DC.
Didn't those high-brow Ranger fans try to tip over the ambulance carrying an injured Pat LaFontaine?
Tiffany,
maybe you are Mr. DC, maybe your not but you are just like Mr. DC trying to tweak people on this blog. I think you and Mr. DC should get married, you both deserve each other.
I'm sorry, Tom, but how does mentioning Ranger fans trying to tip over an ambulance carrying an injured opponent somehow turn me into a troll?
Yankee fans. Because their arrogance is misplaced and leads to sheer delusion. For example, a Yankee fan calls the FAN this morning to tell Carton that the Yankees own Santana. Carton had to set the delusional fan straight, saying Santana has actually excelled against the Yankees in his career, going 2-0 with a 2.66 ERA over the last 3 years. A Yankee fan could look at a blue shirt and say it's red if it meant defending his team. Many of them still think the Mitchell report was a conspiracy.
All NE baseball fans are hard on players, booing them at the drop of a hat. But Yankee fans take the cake for being the most obnoxious with their delusions of grandeur.
The "Lets Go Yankees" never chant never was done until all the bandwagon fans showed up in the late 90's. I'm a Mets fan but went to a ton of games in the Bronx during the 80's and early 90's. I never heard that chant once.
As A Ranger fan 94 mellowed A lot of the long time suffers.
Hey it was not easy hearing the 1940 chants during the Islander dynasty. So are Ranger fans the best hard to say
I remember lots of empty seats before Renney came helped turn around the team.
I personally think a lot of Met fans have become so nasty because of listening to Yankee fans for the last 10 years.
A lot of Yankee fans are stupid and just front runners but
Oakland Raider fans are the worst in all of sports do not
even try going to A game and wearing you your team jersey it will not be A good time.

I got the impression you were trying to insinuate that ranger fans were bad fans by tipping over a ambulance which is the first time I've ever heard that story. I think that is just what that is, a story. Maybe I went too far to mention you in the same sentence with Mr. DC, sorry, I take it back. Too much Caffeine today.
Any fan from the city of Philadelphia….followed by Buffalo.
tomg: Tiffany loves me and I love her but she's not me…. and I'm not she…. maybe you are me? I like ghosts…
And Yankee fans are nicer….. go to a game and you'll see…. just ask them… just read JK above… talk about self arrogance…. your team hasn't won didley in most of your's lifetimes and listen to him rant about a fan on the radio…. I guess they are delusional about going to the playoffs year after year after year while the Metsies big claim to fame is the great CHOKE of '07….....I guess they are delusional about 26 championship flags while the Metsies claim 2 wasting all that money on the worst team money can buy, I guess they are delusional about all the guys in the Hall of Fame wearing Yankees hats while the Metsies have 1 maybe, and you kicked him out of town…. You had your chance. I guess they are delusional whe they think they whipped you in the world Series. You had a World Series against the Yankees and your lazy players didn't even bother to run around the bases hard. Your catcher was such a wuss he didn't even go after Clemens when Clemens threw the bat at him. YOU DESERVED TO LOSE THAT SERIES TO THE YANKEES. Maybe that's what made all you metsies so bitter…. That's it.. one big chance to win the city and the Metsies blew it….... Now your Giants they had a chance to wipe the smirk off the face of the Pats and they did it.. The Pats will never be the same. Not the Metsies. The Metsies lost their chance against the Yankees and may never have another one. NEVER….....never….. NEVER…...
Sadecki: when the Yankee fans make fun of you Metsies, what is your comeback???? you don't have one, so the Yankee fans are just being honest….. and you Metsies can't stand the truth about a franchise that has been the joke of the baseball world for most of its existence. Why is your owner buildingEbbets Field again??? Because he hates his own team and wishes they were the Dodgers. All this makes you rightfully bitter fans. I'll be nice now that I figured it out Metsies…...
Metsie: I like your name…. Metsie…. But I have a question for you… If you love your Metsies so much why did ypou go to all those evil games in YANKEE STADIUM…..
Scott from Pelham,
"I remember lots of empty seats before Renney came helped turn around the team."
That's because Neil Smith who was the GM at the time basically traded the whole farm system for the rest of the aging Edmonton Oilers so when the rangers did win the cup smith mad a few more bad trades (like Zubov to the dallas stars) and the rangers went down hill from there. Than cam sather who thought he could by players through free agency but that didn't work for 7 years. The best thing that happen for the rangers was the strike because that force sather to trade as much as the team he could and restocked with draft picks and players and in a blink of an eye with Don maloney and Tom Renney's help rebuilt the farm system and the team. The best trade Sather made as a ranger GM was getting jagr for half his salary while the capitols paid the other half and given up marginal players. This turned around the rangers and they have made the playoffs since. the future looks good for the rangers.
DC,
Some of my friends are Yankee fans. I think met and Yankee fans are about the same. It's those philthy fans that are the bad apples. I can understand why some met fans say about how yankee fans are coming out of the wood work since the mid nineties. I agree with that statement because it is true. I started to follow baseball in the late 60's and became a met fan because I liked the national league. The yankees sucked. Yes they had there little run in the late 70' but other than that the yankees stunk. I could care less that they won all those championships because most of them were when I wasn't born so I really could care less. Plus the Yankees have been around a really long time so they should have allot more championships than the mets. Until the mid nineties when the Yankees started to spend sick money in pitching to win those championships, there were no fans to find. All of a sudden everybody was a Yankee fan. That's why my second team is the Red Sox, I love the Red Sox. They will beat the Yankees every year and make sure no more championships for the yankees.
Mr. DC,
You don't have to be nice. If it makes you feel good to knock NYC, the mets, jets, new york in general on this blog, knock yourself out. Personally I think you have a serious issue. I think you need to go to a shrink because you sound so bitter.
I loved playing sports and routing for my team but it's not my life. It's obvious to me reading your post that you have this obsession hating the mets and NYC in general. Seriously, go see a shrink because I don't think spewing your hatred on this blog will help you.
DC, you should just admit you are a yankee troll, Your last post removed any doubt from my mind. My comeback for yankee fans? when is the last time they won without having a team full of steroid cheaters. thats an easy one.
Some of you think empty seats equal bad fans. I don't agree. Not going out to see a bad and boring team is not being a bad fan. Its sending a message to ownership. Can anyone even stand to watch them on TV? I don't think you can call any Knick fan who doesn't go to MSG the last few years a bad fan. The Knicks don't deserve any attendance. And excluding the fetish baseball fans have over new parks, I'm sure if the stat heads in the crowd do some research they won't come up with any bad teams that have had attendance growth.
tomg
Neil Smith for all the bad things he did he will be remembered for the two great things that happened on his watch.
The Messier trade and the 94 cup.
Buekeboom was not bad also. A defenseman like him would really help big time.
All his other mistakes will fade in time.
Except for Zubov who really could help the powerplay.
Scott from Pelham,
I totally agree. My point was the rangers paid for winning the cup because after winning the cup they had no farm system
and aging players. When sather became GM he thought he could buy players and build a good team but we all know as fans it doesn't work that way. The reason why I mentioned this was because you mentioned empty seats. That was why there were empty seats because the rangers didn't make the playoffs for seven straight because the rangers were not a good team. I don't care how loyal a fan base is if the team stinks your not going to waste money to go see them play.
Bad fans?
Here in NC? Carolina fans. They think they are entitled.
Braves Fans – same deal.
Had a friend who was an Oilers fan. The Jets were playing them on Monday night years ago. Before the game we had a bet and said he wasn't afraid of the Jets. The Jets won 45 – something. He wouldn't take my call.
A cousin who's a Yanks' fan hated the Mets so bad in '86 that he was pulling for the Red Sox. Called me to tease in the 9th just before the come back. Another one that wouldn't take my call after the Mets won.
tomg
Were on the same page.
Now if they could only score on the power play.
Scott from Pelham,
The power play and they need allot more grit on the blueline.
The rangers defensemen are to soft. The Rangers need a quarter back for the power play and they need a few physical defensemen and there on there way to the cup finals.
tomg: Maybe my shrink told me this would ba good thing to do. You never know do you? This is just a hobby…. just like the mad blogger said. whatever his name is, And to Sadecki, you are too shallow to understand so I will help you…. It hurts Metsies more to bring up the Yankees than anything else in the whole world. Unfortunately, Metsies, its not reciprocated as Yankees fans only care about the RedSox. So my Mr Sadecki bringing up the Yankees has nothing to do with rooting interest but everything to do with rousing the spirits….
No good Yankee fan would lower themselves to bug a metsies, its not necessary….... Metsies know they're second to them… Its the rest of the world you so wrongly think you are superior too…..
How does it feel Metsies every Saturday when you turn on the Fox game of the week and they have a tribute to YANKEE STADIUM…. and what do they have for Shea STadium? nothing, of course…..
To broaden the subject, the real lowlifes are the NASCAR fans who threw beer cans and coolers at Kyle Busch saturday. What got the members of "Junior Nation" so upset? This obnoxious but talented driver did the same thing to Dale Earnhardt Jr that Earnhardt Sr did for 20 years: wrecked someone to try to win a race.
Weren't Monday Night Football games banned in New England because the Patriot fans were too drunk and rowdy?
DC – I love Shea when it's rocking. Bit a tribute? No one gives a tribute to a dump. A lot of people say it's always been a dump but not really. It has been allowed to fall into disrepair. There shouldn't be a tribute.
Yankee Stadium on the other hand should not be torn down and should be refurbed to its original granduer. That shows how misguided the Yankees management has become. They will draw 4 million and they need a new park? Give me a break. On this one you should be bashing the Yanks.
OK, CLM I'll go bash the Yanks. I don't like bashing you guys when your down like you are now…. What's the best site for that…? The LoHUD Yankee site?
I live right ouside Philadelphia and I've got to give it to their fans. My dad went to a Giants-Eagles game with a bunch of other Giants fans and a female Eagles fan spit on the back of his buddy's head. Just awful…
Phillies fans are the most docile out of the 4 major sports, but that's really not saying much.
I'm obviously bias but I think Yanks-Sox games at the Stadium are much less tense than Mets-Phillies games at Shea or Citizens Bank Park.
