wow, i love this line up, if castillo hits and gets on base, this is the line up we need. It extends the line up and allows Church (one of our best hitters) to be an RBI guy. His HR's would be a lot better with men on base.

  2. Steve C.

It was inevitable. No rain out right?
    ;-)

  3. Bob

why do you love this lineup? castillo should be nowhere near the 2 hole. and why dfa casanova? whats gonna happen when castro gets hurt again? ahhhh

  4. pvhornet05

JD, what did you think of Joba's reaction after striking out Dellucci yesterday?

  5. alex

dfa doesn't mean released. it means he has to pass through waivers and then will report to AAA.

assuming that happens, he will be ready and waiting for the next time castro hits the dl.

and this team needs castillo in the 2 hole to be successful. he really is a prototypical #2 hitter and having church batting in the 5 spot should give our hottest hitter (hopefully) more chances to drive in runs with (presumably) more guys on in front of him.

the key to this lineup is the fact that w/ delgado now batting 7th (where he rightfully belongs at this point) it won't need to rely as much on his production to score runs.

  6. John Delcos

To pvhornet05: He should act like he's been there before.-JD

  7. Bob

alex – ya dk y I said that, I had a brain fart.

but why do you think castillo needs to be in the 2hole for thsi team to be successful? theyve had a considerably better record when church bats 2nd and castillo bats 8th.

  8. Steve C.

well said alex. now everyone is where they belong. This is THE lineup for how the players are hitting..

  9. metsfan

so Bob, would you rather waste Church and his RBI ability in the 2 hole, or have him hit 5th where he can be a 100 RBI guy? Castillo has a .353 OBP currently, thats not great, but not horrible, like i said, if he hits, and raises his average to say .280, which is quite conceivable, he'll have an even better OBP, perfect for the #2 hole. As for Casanova, what are we going to do? Keep him on the team the whole year and have Castro play rehab games for the rest of the year? Castro is better then Casanova, bottom line.

  10. NYMetsGrrl94

On MetsBlog they welcome Ramon back by calling him hippo. I haven't heard that one before.

  11. Bob

metsfan – you're quite the mean fellow. Id love to challenge you to a fight.

  12. metsfan

i also think our record while Church bats in a certain spot is a vastly overrated stat, and means virtually nothing. You put Church in an RBI position because he's an RBI hitter. Castilllo has the ability to be a good #2 hitter, and 1 month in a season will not convince me he can't do that anymore. If you judged every player based on 1 month, you'd be harshing on a lot of guys.

  13. alex

as for joba's reactions. i find it ironic that some of the same media members who were taking the mets to task last year for jose reyes's celebrations are defending joba.

if you think the handshakes and dancing before you get to the dugout "wakes up the other team" and is "inappropriate" then the same standards have to apply to the fist pump and shouting "I'm back" after getting david delucci to strike out to end the 8th inning of a meaningless game.

you can't criticize one and defend the other. it's one and the same.

personally, i would prefer neither. but the game (and all sports) has changed so much in the last 10-15 years (see: td celebrations, the way basketball players pose and posture if they dunk a ball even if their team is down 20, etc.) that i think it's now just another part of sports.

  14. Bob

metsgrl – I have, and he looks like a hippo. Calm down, I just may have to beat you up.

  15. metsfan

Bob….challenge me to a fight? what are you talking about? i'm making an argument, using words, try it out…

  16. Bob

wow, I am completely astonished in how belligerent and douche the generation of hip hop listening/teacher beating up teenagers has become. metsfan – that goes out to you and metsgrl, you two were completely disrespectful to me. Id love to beat both of your 15 yr old snot face faces into the pavement.

  17. Doug

    I'm shocked they demoted Casanova.

I hate to say it, but why is Endy Chavez still on the roster? Casanova would be much more valuable to this team then Endy is at the moment.

  18. dave

since castillo like to draw walks it allows reyes to steal.

Personally I would rather have church at 2. the pitchers will be so worried about jose they will room service him more hits.

either way i am happy. have both on my fantasy team with johnnie.

  19. Bob

doug – what about when alou needs a day off, or in a tight game in the 7th-9th innings. endy is an extremely valuable asset to this team. You silly fool, id love to kick yo azz

  20. Bob

dave – why do you have castillo on your fantasy team? cmon there has to a better option. USE YOUR BRAIN!

  21. Dave

Castillo at #8 and everyone else moving down 1 would make the lineup even better and shake things up.

  22. John Delcos

Bob: Starting early tonight, aren't you? Anger issues, my friend.-JD

  23. Doug

So Bob, whats the point of Angel Pagan then?

I'd rather have Pagan or Endy and Casanova then both Pagan and Endy. There's no point in keeping both, and it hinders Willie from using Castro off the bench.

Its a poor move by Omar, IMO.

  24. Keith

I think I agree with keeping Church in the 2 hole. I'm in favor of getting our best hitters more ab's and our not so good hitters less ab's.

  25. pvhornet05

    Well said JD.

  26. John Delcos

I will tell you the real secret about the success of the No. 2 hitter. It all depends on Jose Reyes. If Reyes is getting on base and being aggressive, does it really matter if it is Church or Castillo? I liked the switch earlier because Castillo wasn't playing that well while Church was hot.-JD

  27. metsfan

Name me a team in this league that has 3 catchers on their team, 3 players that are exclusively catchers. No one does that. As for Endy and Pagan, I think its ridiculous for people to assume Pagan can do that same things as Endy. Sure, Pagan made that play the other day, but his defense leaves A LOT to be desired. He might have the worst throwing arm i've seen in a very long time. You keep Endy around because of his D, because you have Alou on your team.

  28. Bob

i dont have anger issues, jd. maybe you do but whatever.

my problem with castillo batting 2nd is he dosnt wait for reyes to steal second, then bunt him to third. he usually bunts on the first pitch and reyes is at second. not at 3rd which would(should) usually be an automatic run on another team I guess not this team tho

  29. scoopcoop

Very surprised Willie would put Delgado 7th. He must be feeling some heat.

  30. John Delcos

Bob: Maybe I'm not hip on something, but challenging everybody to a fight? Doesn't sound right to me. Me angry? No sir. I like everybody … even metsfan.-JD

  31. Bob

doug – Bobby Valentine once said that he's NEVER had both catchers hurt in a single game. theres really no need for 3 catchers, then youd basically have 2 bench players – anderson and castro who are only hitters

  32. Bob

Jd – well aren't you a little miss gandhi arent ya! whats so bad about proving your point in a physical manner?

  33. John Delcos

Scoopcoop: Yeah. There's some heat in Willie's kitchen these days. It's really not Willie, it's the players. Of course, that's not something you don't already know.-JD

  34. Keith

Metsfan, we're playing one tonight: Paul Bako, David Ross, Javier Valentin.

And I know for a fact the Twins did it last year too.

  35. Keith

metsfan: RE: Pagan's arm. I guess you don't remember Cedeno. He was the worst.

  36. John Delcos

Bob: That's Mr. Gandhi to you. One of these days Bob, you're going to mouth off to the wrong guy and they'll be picking you up from the sidewalk with a spoon.-JD

  37. alex

The AL doesn't count, because of the DH they can afford to carry 3 catchers if so desired.

But in the NL most teams need the flexibility of having options to PH for the pitcher and in the case of our youth/health-challenged roster, defensive replacements and subs for the few days a week that our 2B, LF, CF, 1B need days off.

I don't know much about the 3 C's on the Reds—other than Valentin is the Stache's brother—but my guess is that one or more of them is capable of playing either 1b, or OF.

which is not the case with Castro or Casanova.

  38. Bob

jdizzle – I can take care of myself, you better watch out talkin to me like that wow I knew the teens were mean but i didn't know dinosaurs were mean aswell

  39. Keith

Bob, I seriously doubt you're as old as you claim to be, and if so, you're incredibly immature.

  40. John Delcos

    Bob: T-Rex, baby!!!-JD

  41. Bob

Kieth – my name is Bob, and I am a Motivational Speaker! Now, let's get started by me giving you a little bit of a scenario of what my life is all about! First off, I am 35 years old.. I am divorced.. and I live in a van down by the river! Now, you kids are probably saying to yourself, "Now, I'm gonna go out, and I'm gonna get the world by the tail, and wrap it around and put it in my pocket!!" Well, I'm here to tell you that you're probably gonna find out, as you go out there, that you're not gonna amount to Jack Squat!!" You're gonna end up eating a steady diet of government cheese, and living in a van down by the river! Now, Kieth, what do you want to do with your life?

  42. Doug

I just don't think Endy is the same player he was in 2006. Sure he made the catch, but you gotta know when to cut the cord.

Not to many teams keep 3 catchers, because most teams don't have Ramon Castro wasting away on the bench. I'd say Castro could start for at least 2/3 of the teams in baseball.

Its annoying when you have a key spot late in the game and you can't use Castro due to injury risks to Schneider.

Like I said before, dropping Pagan or Endy would be the right move, and one of them may very well get dropped when they activate Wise.

  43. DC

No fair; What's the sense of picking on metsies when Bob is here to prove the "despicable" nature of little metsies so well…. You are so low bob you even harrass a good kid like metsgrrl94… you are the worst metsie in history…. see that steve c you are moving up the ladder…..

  44. dave

Endy was not a one hit wonder in 06. He hit 300 and played all 3 OF positions. He has a good arm and great instincts. You never have to worry about him in the field.

This means outs which means runs. Pagan did well early, let us see if he can continue, but there is no comparison between the two in the field.

As for my fantasy team of the mets i have church, jose ,Xman and Maine. I dropped Pedro and may pick him up again.
