Pedro update

May
9

Pedro Martinez threw 60 pitches in a bullpen session at PSL, and that included facing hitters. The Mets said he’s not ready for a simulated game.

Said Omar Minaya: “We’re very encouraged by the progress that’s being made.”

I’ve heard this before. I’ll be encouraged when he’s pitching in real games … and getting people out.

Omar said that last year. Pedro said that last year and this year. everytime he took the mound for real he lasted no more than 3 innings.
I am not holding my breath.. at all.

    Lets Go Mets!

huh Steve C? Pedro came back last year and pitched 5 games and did pretty well, averaging just under 6 IP, not bad for a guy who hadn’t pitched in more then a year coming back from a rotator cuff surgery they invented for him. Where does your comment come from? He did fine last year, got injured this year, obviously we shouldn’t just assume he’ll come back and last the whole year, but c’mon, don’t lie about what the guy has done! We need Pedro and having him back would be a huge boost. I hope to see him soon. Saying he lasted no more then 3 innings last year is just a complete lie. On top of it, he pitched well.

having a healthy pedro will be good for the team.

as i posted earlier today our record vs last year is worst. we need more quality pitching and pedro knows how to pitch.

he just needs to be healthy.

metsfan: not a lie. and exaggeration. There’s a difference ;-)

Time to be realistic. This was a bad deal. Pedro will never be healthy again to a competitive level where he can be counted on to win games especially in September. How long do we have to sit through this and wait again? It’s amazing the level of time and commitment Minaya has given to him in return for essentially nothing.

Stonefly: I can’t believe anyone would say the Pedro deal was a bad one. Pedro didn’t have to throw one pitch to make his deal totally worth it.

Without Pedro this franchise is still in the hole for sure

Without Pedro the chips don’t fall with Beltran and pretty much everymove after that.

Without Pedro I would bet my house we wouldn’t have signed Fernando Martinez or Delios Guerra

Without Guerra we have no Santana

Its a domino effect. Looking back in 15-20 years, December 15, 2004 will go down as the day that turned this franchise around. He gave the franchise credibility.

Pedro Martinez and Omar Minaya saved this franchise.

I’d even go as far to say without the signing of Pedro, we might not be talking about a CitiField right now.

I used to think the Pedro signing was good but am having second thoughts. If a player is not producing close to what was expected of him for at least half their contract, then I consider it a bust. That might be the case with Pedro by the time the season is over.

It’s faulty reasoning to say the franchise wouldn’t have revived without Omar and Pedro. Theoretically, it might have done even better under another GM. And that GM might even have brought them a WS title by now. If that GM hadn’t signed Pedro and Beltran, he might have signed and acquired other players who could have been just as valuable or more.

I’m assuming Duquette would have been replaced even had Omar not been hired. So there would have been a different regime in place regardless.

Can this be JK. I agree with you on this one. But the flip side is you might have had a GM who has an internal first philosophy and might be doing a great job but hasn’t won yet because he went the youth route. Would Met fans have bought in to something like Arizona went through to rebuild, which they’ve done magnificently? (except for their Randy Johnson thing which I never understood)I don’t think so….
