This is a good lineup. Glad to see Alou in there, hopefully he would be there for more than 2 weeks.
JD, what do you think about Peterson so far? I saw an article today saying that he might be the first to bed fired. I think that would be the biggest mistake the Mets could do. What do you think about it?
man they gie delgado the benefit of the doubt. i wish corporate america was so forgiving. The minute anyone of us consistently produced what he has we would be gone/replaced.
To pvhornet05: Good question. Two significant pitchers have focus problems in Oliver Perez and Aaron Heilman. The Jacket has to take some responsibility for that. I don’t think Peterson would be the first to go. The first would be Randolph. I can’t imagine them going after the GM first.-JD
So Willie dodged the question of what to do w/Delgado for now.
But when Scheinder comes back I bet Delgado still bats 6th either b/c Church is batting 2nd or b/c he and bats behind Delgado.
Peterson and Omar are buddy buddy w/The Wilpons.
Willie is not. He gets the boot first.
I would bat John 6th, he has more power than the 3 before him.

I’ve always wondered how much input Peterson has with Willie’s pitching decisions. The way the pen is being wrung out this season, has Peterson at some point suggested to Willie to leave someone in a little longer (like, why not let Figgy stay in longer in that Pirates game?) or to not use a reliever in a certain situation. I’ve never sensed friction between them so guess this means Jacket agrees with Willie’s decisions. Then again, he’s not the captain of the ship, so whatever Willie decides goes.
To add to pv’s line of thought: JD, what do you think about HoJo’s job security? Our pitching hasn’t been steady, and Peterson should take some heat for that. But the hitting has been erratic, too, and HoJo has to answer for that.
I like the line-up a lot. Now we just need Beltran and Reyes to hit and maybe it won’t seem like the team is sleep walking through the season anymore. I put the over/under on games before Alou sits out with an injury/goes on the DL at 15. Anyone care to make a wager?
Church batting second and Old Man Moises is back. Hands toughened up as only he does. Let’s go Mets.
I don’t see Peterson being fired unless the Wilpons listen to fools like Mike and the Mad Dog.
I know pitching coaches tend to be deified when pitchers succeed, but none of them, not even the Zen-master Rick Peterson, have magic powers. There’s only so much Rick can do w/ a guy like Perez, who just looks in over his head anytime something doesn’t go his way on the mound.
Yeah, all this lineup discussion could be moot in a couple days when Alou hits the shelf again. It’s sad, b/c this team needs him so much, but we all know it’s gonna happen sooner rather than later.
I love the idea that the team is undefeated when Church bats second, but doesn’t this lineup make Castillo a $6-million-a-year 8th-place hitter?
It seems that if you’re going to invest four years and $25 million on a small-ball player, you have to let him play small ball.
with Delgado sucking, this is not a good line imo. you need to extend the line up by putting church 5th, alou 6th, and delgado 7th, and castillo 2nd, who has been getting on base lately.
He needs to do this. Reyes has gotta be on base.
Way to go Jose! That’s the Reyes we all know and love.
Tiffany-I think 3 million of that 6 can be chalked up to his defense. Omar wanted him for his glove as much as his #2 ability. And I don’t think Church is destined to be in the 2 slot for the whole season. I just don’t think it’s a good idea to keep throwing Castillo out there for now when he’s hitting so badly. You want Church in there for situations like this where you need to get Jose plated. I think Church just showed us that.
Like I have said. They have the talent. This is the way the Mets should play-aggressive. I hope May is a new leaf for them and they keep the pressure on.
