Since the trade they have received 14mil over the three years from the Marlins (7mil up front,'06'-1mil, '07'-2mil, '08'-4mil. So doing skewed math they paid the first two years and only owe him 6mil to release him( 16mil '08' + 4mil '09' buyout - 14mil Marlins). Thats not much money to be keeping him around how much was frank Thomas' contract.... JD,
