Mets Chat Room: Offense shows life signs in win over Braves.
-
- April
- 26
Willie Randolph said he’s “not overly concerned with the team right now.’’ He said they’ll play better. He did not provide a date, but improvement was shown this afternoon.

John Maine gave them five, but left the game as a precaution after experiencing tightness in his forearm. The Mets scored four in the third and the bullpen gave up a run in four innings.
IN A NUTSHELL
The offense awakens and the bullpen picks up Maine.
FROM THE CLUBHOUSE
Willie Randolph on the offense breaking through in the four-run third: “It’s been awhile since we strung together a bunch of hits like that. It was good to see them attack a really fine pitcher. We’ve been struggling a little bit.’’
John Maine on leaving the game after the fifth inning with tightness in his right forearm: “I could have gone out in the sixth and I wanted to, but it’s still April and there’s no reason to take a chance. I’m OK.’’
Carlos Beltran on how the team is playing: “We’re a better team than how we’ve been playing. Things are going to change. Hopefully, soon.’’
IN-GAME ANALYSIS
1ST INNING: John Maine loses focus and it costs him a run. The offense goes down meekly. Atlanta 1, Mets 0
2ND INNING: Runners left on the corners. Three so far.
3RD INNING: There’s nothing like a big inning to wake up the place. Carlos Beltran and Ryan Church have the big hits. Delgado drives in a run. Let’s see if Maine can hold the lead. Mets 4, Atlanta 2
5th INNING: Maine gone after five.
9TH INNING: Billy Wagner remains lights out. Mets 4, Atlanta 3

John Maine is a moron…
John Maine gets the first two, walks the third hitter and gives up a RBI double. That’s not finishing. It’s the same problem Mike Pelfrey had last night and Oliver Perez the night before that. It’s also Aaron Heilman’s problem. Wonder why The Jacket hasn’t fixed this.-JD
Delcos is starting to sound like Sloppy…..
On the radio pre game they said that Brave pitcher went to the ump and apologized for his behavior last night. Smart kid or smart coaches.
Classic John Maine in the first. This team is a joke.
Braves are w/o Escobar and Chipper, Diaz is sitting, their bullpen is wracked by injuries. Yeah, they have the Mets right where they want them.
Where has Maine’s control gone??
JD – do you think firing Randolph is a reasonable thing to do if the Mets are still at .500 in 15 games or so? Comments like “i’m not concerned” and “this is how it felt at the end of last year” just sound like he’s going along for this crappy ride like the rest of us…
It sounds like he’s lost control of this team.
Ryan Church is exactly the type of player the Mets needs. HE plays HARD, he runs EVERYTHING out, he plays GREAT DEFENSE, takes ADVANTAGE of the defense. SMART player.
Ryan Church is a “5 tool player” but it’s his 6th tool that makes him a 5 tool player. His brain.
Well it looks like Carlos Delgado has perfected the art of the ground ball RBI.
Mackey: Firing Randolph at that point would be a panic move. He says he’s not overly concerned because he has faith they’ll improve. It’s all on the players. I don’t think he’s lost control of this team.-JD
Gotta love Church thus far. And he really stands out b/c everyone else around him is awful.
Finally a real old time Mets inning!!
John just a thought.. Willie ALWAYS jumps on Reyes when he messes up. There is a time when you have to jump on your player and be hard on them, but when your player is mentally drained, and really looks like he wants to crawl into a ball and cry..
yet, Reyes sits there at the edge of the bench by himself. Nobody comes over to say anything. He’s 24 years old, not a 14 year vet.
Yeah, feel so bad for Church, because he has such awful hitters in front of him like Wright and Beltran…. (sarcasm)
Well you don’t want to fire him now do you after a 4 run inning. Hudson has ball up. Will they go to seleep again and wait to lose or knock him out?
Are all the Delgado bashers sad now? Sometimes its good to be bad, you hit a ball so slow you get an RBI. Hit it hard and you don’t.
Mackey, I agree with John – firing Willie Randolph would be a Big Mistake – Willie is still in control. It’s the players that need to re-boot.
JD,
As usual, the bullpen (and the offense by extension) is going to have to win this game. Maine will not make it out of the 4th w/ less than 80 pitches. God’s speed Aaron Heilman.
Hudson out after 60 pitches and 3 innings? Is there something wrong w/ him?
nice that the mets’ bats woke up a bit last inning. and nice that maine put up a zero after that.
but w/ the pitch count where it is, this game will be won or lost in the bullpen.
Just wondering what everyone’s thoughts are about Randolph… sounds like firing him early in the season isn’t going to happen.
Church is a scrub from a last-place team. He’s a journeyman who can’t hit lefties. And he never slides in the field.
Tiffany,
You are on a different planet.
JM: I could be wrong, but I think Tiffany’s being sarcastic…
If that’s the case Tiffany, my apologies. I appreciate good sarcasm, but haven’t been in the mood w/ the way this team is playing lately.
Century mark for Maine. I say throw him out there until he can’t get outs.
Attention Willie:
ONE DAY OFF is not enough for a relief pitcher. 162 games, every other game, 81 games. Throw Maine out there for the 6th, he looked great out there last inning.
David is certainly ‘in the game’ today – great move.
So far, no word on why Hudson is out. Braves say nothing is wrong. Still, seems odd.-JD
Say hello to Homerun Heilman.-JD
Next time Santana pitches, Willie ought to do a double switch when it’s time to come out. Santana would slide over to first, Delgado would leave the game for the new pitcher. That way we could keep a good hitter in the lineup
Maine is done for the day: 5 innings, 2 runs, 3 hits, 3 walks, 7 strikeouts … 100 pitches. They need more than five innings from their starters.-JD
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Again, 2 outs, inning falls apart.
This team is Johan Santana and a bunch of 5-inning starters. Not gonna survive that way, not with this pen.
A couple of times a month, I get to see/hear a game on NY’s CH 11. Today is one of those days and I am hearing the baseball wisdom of Ron Darling who is definitely not a ‘Loudmouth’ participant. Perhaps he should have a seminar for the current Mets pitching staff – I’m not sure they are getting the knowledge they need from the Jacket.
Roger you are as classless as the 40,000 classless fake met fans in the park. Here’s what i think of your post.\
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Roger
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Sure would be nice to be Teixeira’s agent right about now.-JD
It will be a lot nicer for him come November.
Duaner Sanchez is just awesome..
BULLETIN: ``I’m a Believer,’’ by the Monkees is the 8th inning sing-a-long. Not too many are singing, but how can you tell, they are booing Carlos Delgado as he comes to the plate.-JD
All the booing of Delgado reminds me of how they treat their heroes in Philly.-JD
Here’s an evaluation of your web site Roger
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Delgado down to .186. How low can he go?
Nice game “in the book” today and Nelson tomorrow.
Wagner just pitched his 9th inning of 2008 and hasn’t allowed a hit. That may as close to a no-hitter as this franchise gets.
NO-HITTER!! Oh wait, damn….
Great win, let’s get the series win tomorrow…
Cheers for our llama farmer!
That’s alpacas RG, alpacas.
I hope some of those booing Delgado aren’t the recipient of some of what Carlos gives back to the community with his charitable work. No doubt, NY is a tough place to play when your skills are in freefall. Anyhow, good win today.
JM—Oops! My bad!
Llamas, alpacas … Whatever it takes!
“Here’s an evaluation of your web site Roger
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO”
Last I checked my blog wasn’t hitting under .200 and doesn’t have an ERA over 6.
There are sometimes when a player doesn’t deserved to be boo’d ; Wright of late 06/08, Carlos Beltran 06.. But, Carlos Delgado doesn’t play hard, he’s done.
Based on the number of comments on your site you deserve more boos than anyt Met. Your web site is batting zero….First you whine that nobody is patting Reyes on the back and then you do your met fan embarrasment. What a joke ….. You the God of booing…. Wow… what a career…. You decide who warrants a boo…. Do the Wilpons pay you much for this most pathetic of careers? Please change you web site name to God of Boos…..
“Carlos Delgado’s Adventures Below The Mendoza Line” sounds like a really great adventure serial from the 1930s, not like the embarassingly shameful end to a career for a guy who really was great before 15,000 injuries.
No Met deserves a boo. ever. even delgado, whom i despise. I wouldnt boo. why? because when you boo a player you boo the team and you should never boo your team. moan and groan and go oh or ugh.. sure but never Boo.
I was taught that and i teach my kids that…
This place is pretty quiet for a day when your metsies got lucky and won. i hope you all enjoy spending all that money driving to and from the parking lot at what 3.75 4 bucks a gallon??? Don’t foget to thank me your president W for all your money going to my friends the oil barons… Oh this is a baseball site sorry… the metsies are so not like a baseball team I forgot.
I am just fascinated by this booing debate you little metsies have going here. Roger boos the mets, sloppy boos roger’s web site, steve C says he hates some mets but doesn’t boo them Wow….. you know most teams have fans that just root for their team… But JK was right you little metsies are “despicable”.. BOO the Mets… Boo the Mets Wasn’t that the Mets song once? I’m not going to Roger’s web site because it gets booed. It must suck just like the metsies….... I’ll stick with my good froend Delcos, who I hope is trying to get a job covering a team that doesn’t spend its time debating booing. Poor Mr Delcos!!!!
I agree Steve, you don’t boo your own guys, no matter how bad, no matter how much you know they’re hurting the team. The other team’s guys are fair game, but not your own. No one gets booed when they mess up at work, and no one could deal with it if they did.
hellofromDC/PelhamPkwy:
are you going out of your way to bate people into and argument? let me guess your a stankee fan. thats really upper crust. yeah u dont root you throw things at your own guys.
Listen i was born Royal Blue and Orange. I have always rooted for the Mets as a team. I have never boo-ed at all. Booing the other team absolutely. As for disliking a player. hey i am human and so are you. You dont have to like every player on the team. thats absurd. Now go to your teams blog and stay there because honestly. you come on just to stir the pot. Its unsportsman.
And there endeth the lesson.
JM: exactly… those that boo arent real fans.
sloppy I know -
10x-, make that 100x more then you do about the Mets and baseball in general. The site, it’s not supposed to be some huge thing, it’s a hobby. But to base it on the comments? Pure stupidity. My readers don’t have to comment, because they have a chat box to talk to each other. Is it as popular as Metsblog or this site? No. Do I expect it to be? No.Go take out your anger on something else. I’ve never seen you say anything incentive once. Always just bashing on other people.
roger and sloppy you win the award today for the two most idiotic metises in the whole world… fighting about booing and a bad web site, and roger your site is a bad site, as is all dumb metsie sites except for Delcos’and I think all the metsies will and should boo it and sloppy you can’t have roger’s job of deciding who gets booed.. i talked to wilpon’s and when I’m done being W I’m in charge of all the metsie booing and we’ll start with the two of you.
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO sloppy
BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO roger
love and kisses to all the metsies except roger and sloppy who have been extra bad and extra despicable…..
Hello: You can have the job. And boo Roger all you want. Roger, I doubt you know 100 times what I do about baseball or the Mets. As a matter of fact from reading your posts and your pathetically boring web site, your baseball knowledge rates about the same as Hello’s…..virtually nothing….....
But at least he’s entertaining. you aren’t….
