Mets Chat Room: Simply horrible.

The Mets had a chance to put away the Washington Nationals and end their road trip on a positive note.

However, Oliver Perez lost it and Aaron Heilman never had it and the Mets limp home 3-4 on the trip after opening with two wins in Philly.
The three quotes below pretty much said it all.
IN A NUTSHELL, Washington 10, Mets 5
Perez showed why he is an enigma and Heilman’s nightmare continued.
IN THE CLUBHOUSE
Aaron Heilman on his troubles: “I need to find a way to make better pitches.”
Oliver Perez on his troubles: “We were close to winning and I started walking people.”
Willie Randolph on his team: “We struggled like this down the stretch last year.”
IN-GAME ANALYSIS
Top of 2nd: Perez fine so far. Delgado leaves another RISP. Mets 0, Washington 0.
Top of 3rd: A RBI single by Luis Castillo. They just booed a couple on the Kiss Cam. No passion. Mets 1, Washington 0.
4th Inning: Perez cruising. Only two hits given up. Small ball working. Mets 2, Washington 0.
5th Inning: About Perez? Never mind. Mets 3, Washington 3.
6th Inning: Aaron Heilman gives up a slam. Game over. Washington 7, Mets 3.
9th Inning: Finally, this is over. Washington 10, Mets 5.

Tonite's aflac trivia question: Are there any teams left without a catcher named Molina?
LOL
Is Mr Met really your brother?
yeah and the phillie phanatic is my cousin
awesome… Teddy Roosevelt was my great uncle!
You're funny…. You sure your only a kid?
Whoa! We gave that heavy dude Ray King the axe…. Maybe you guys can have him replace Heilmann since you hate little Aaron so much….. Hope nobody bought a Brady Bunch jersey…...
Well that was a super start. 9 pitches.
be gentle.. i think luis is very sad because the Brady Bunch guy was cut and humiliated by the metsies, taken off the field during practice to be humiliated in front of all his peers.
And HOP goes the Ollie.
Well, I'm pumped, because at least now I can play CF and hit 4th for the gnats. That is, if i can crack that murderers row 4-8 of Kearns, Pena, Boone, Harris, Nievas! Wowza!
Ryan Church is my homeboy.
The Nationals' new park is in Ward 8 – where Marion Barry is the Councilman. What a twist of fate. Anyone remember Barrys former title(s)?
gee the hole in the lineup, delgado, didnt disappoint.
church hit a great shot.
If we were in the AL, the pitcher would hit and someone would DH for Delgado.
What a surprise – Howie is reporting that Milledge isn't playing tonight because he was late to the clubhouse. Sound familiar, folks??
Perez is doing his job. the bats better do theirs..
We love Marion…. He made much better use of his extra money when he was our Mayor than the metsies X-guv did….!You are too nice nice Ms Annie to be a little Metsie….
Brady your such a barrel of ha has…. at least we don't have a 140 million bucks going down the drain to suck like you metsies do!!!!
-JD .. tell me again why Delgado is still playing?
This is no slump. i saw this last year. he's gotten worse. Just how long do you give the Vet the benefit of the doubt?
You from Connecticut Ms Annie??? They just dumped a bad gov also didn't they…. maybe a few years ago…. And you got a real bad Senator. Joe lets stay at war forever as long as I don't have to get shot at Lieberman….
The entire tri-state area has dumped a bad governor recently.
it doesn't matter if we stop giving delgado the benefit of the doubt it matters if willie does
Well then Mr Barry would fit right in….. Maybe he is a little metsie at heart….
DC – yes, I'm from CT and in my other life I am a political scientist. At one point we had three mayors in jail and an ex Gov in Federal prison. The gov is out and recently got a 'job' back in Waterbury where he belongs.
Lieberman is not a CT senator, he belongs to Mayor Bloomberg who financed his most recent campaign.
Ah the politics of the tri state area!
To Steve C.: Delgado is still playing because they don't have anybody with any real first base experience who is any good to replace him.-JD
i just realized that when JD "signs" at the end of a comment it looks like a smiley face with a mustache
man, you guys are soooo good…... they were playing luis much too deep…...
Andrew – you must be a Jersey guy.
JD: easley? he's an infielder and can hit. can do any worse. as it was the other night delgado thought he was the second baseman. ;)i just feel that we said this last year. and shawn green proved we had choices at 1st.
i just thing the lineup needs a shake down. to wake everyone up.
oh well. i am just an armchair manager what do i know?
Just as Castillo starts to pick it up, Reyes goes in the tank.
Here we go again, wasting runners in scoring position. At least Castillo slapped one in, that's very encouraging. Can we get off the Delgado thing already? Omar is going to give him time to work things out. This shouldn't be a conversation until June at least. Give the everyone some time to figure out if this is really diminished skills and not just a slump. Remember, Delgado was pretty solid in the 2nd half of last season. Oh boy, lead off man is on, that is Ollie's kryptonite.
hmm why did the first line of my comment get struck out?
hopefully you all can read it.
JD,
After the game, maybe you can ask OP why he felt the need to treat the strike zone as a biohazard for the baseball with Will Nieves at the plate.
Eric, i said this last year. and everyone railed me. and guess what. i was right and now everyone agrees. he's done.
there's a slump and there's a slump. if his glove at first was great that would be one thing but he's no Keith.
Steve C. It was nothing I did on this end. If you had some dashes in there that might have been the reason.-JD
You got in Ms. Savoy.
Jersey born and raised. In CT for the school year (Quinnipiac).
Good School, Andrew. What's your major?
double play. all right! ..
now lets see.. who's up next. ok thats one out. maybe after that out we can get a run in ,.
Yeah, I like it.
Journalism (hence the blog) and a Sports Studies minor.
Maybe Bloomy owns Lieby, but Lieby officially comes from CT no? Maybe we're lucky. we don't have a bad guv or a bad senator only bad mayor's but you have them too…. Of course I live out of district so I do indeed have bad guv and Senators too! Man, i am lucky….. But at least we dumped that guy who was the football coach's boy… who wanted to be our enxt very bad pres. but he wouldn;t have been as bad as me.
luv and kisses
W Keith Bob, JK and last but not least Delcos….
Time to scour the T ball fields for some guys to replace these metsie wannabees we have…...
Ollie got outta that one, but he can't afford to walk guys like that.
Steve C- I'm very speculative of Delgado right now as well and it very well might be the beginning of the end for him, but there is no way the team dumps him in April or May. If he was a head case like the Big Hurt, maybe, but right now the options the Mets have are slim. Who is to say Omar doesn't have him on a short leash this season? But dropping him in April or May would be like giving him no leash to work with. I would say right now Omar puts out feelers for deals, but nothing should be done yet. Our best bet is Mike Carp somewhere down the line. The man is hitting like a machine up in Binghamton.
Of course as I type this, Delgado takes 2 horrible hacks at fastballs he can't catch up to.
When Carlos Delgado strikes out, it should really count as two outs for the pitcher. That is how bad it looks.
John – did the promised chocolate chip cookies ever arrive?
Ollie Ollie!
Ollie is really lighting it up at the plate!
Listen ,. when the pitcher is clutch 2 days in a row. what does that tell you about delgado?
It's getting ridiculous how authoritatively our pitchers swing the lumber compared to our hitters.
If anyone cares, the Yankees are in a rain delay. Maybe Ozzie will give another interview.
The information posted here earlier is accurate. Lastings Milledge was benched tonight for showing up late. And I was told it hasn't been the first time, either.-JD
maybe the rain delay is his fault and he feels like now the white sox should rip up his contract
Annie: No cookies.-JD
Reyes needs to shake off the long ball and just get on base. otherwise he will be no better than delgado. This was his issue last year. after crushing the ball he gets cocky and he forgets how to get on base.
JD- so milledge is back to being immature again huh..
Annie- why would a met fan care about the yankees?
That's funny, I posted a few weeks ago that once the nationals
fall back in to last place that milledge will get himself in trouble, there you go. I am so glad we have church, national fans enjoy. This is the scratching the surface with this guy.
Another reason LMillz is a punk.
LMillz, PacMan Jones, and Ron Artest would make quite a team.
I understand Delgado is done. Jose Reyes is another story. Reyes's head is somewhere else at the plate, he waves at pitches, swings at bad pitches, doesn't have a clue at the plate or the strike zone. I am losing patience with this guy.
Steve – I've found that most fans just love the game first and then choose a team or teams to follow. How could you not want to see a really great player or players, just because they are on another team?
We traded that little head case for 2 holes we desperately needed to fill. So far so good for Omar. Especially since Church is headed for a breakout season. I really like Schneider so far but wake me up when he gets an EBH.
I agree, Jose goes through stretches where he feels like he needs to drive the ball every AB. He'll get through it though.
Milledge will never amount to anything special and will be a trouble maker off the field.
tomg,
Agreed w/ Reyes. He is on another planet. It's unreal how far he's regressed just since the first half of last season.
is something wrong with Castillo? he is getting hits! multiple of hit!
tomg – Isn't it interesting that both David Wright and Lastings Milledge are the sons of active police officers?
Eric: agreed. Minaya has made some great deals. unlike Steve traitor Phillips.
Annie: I was born a met fan. I will die a met fan. I watch only the teams that currently play my team. Otherwise, I could care less what other teams or players do.
Happy Birthday Carlos!
JM,
Reyes in 2006 finally showed he finally learned how to read the strike zone and work the count to his favor and work out walks. Reyes had a good season. The first half of last year he did the same thing. The second half of last year he went back to being the Reyes of 2005 and hasn't changed. I don't get it but I am losing my patience.
Boy, what a surprise, man on third, one out, beltran takes a pitch down the middle for a call strike three, typical Beltran.
sorry about the cookies…. we ate them on the metro….. We'll bring extras next go around…...
Milledge is bad and gets punished.. On the Mets nothing happens to anybody no matter what. Acta is a bad manager but at least he acts like the boss…...
I found three 6 years old and we're getting them contracts tomorrow to be our new outfield. Watch out when they get to be 8.
luv and kisses to all the bad governors and mayors in NYNJCTand DC, but not to Lieby who is owned by Bloomy
Annie the political scientist did you like that election down here when we had Warner against Warner…. It was almost a tie because most of the people didn't know which Warner was their Warner. but then the loser Warner became Governor Warner and now the Senator Warner is quitting and the former Governor Warner wants to become the new Senator Warner….. Good thing the other Senator is Webb or it would be as bad as all the Molina's catching on all the teams…..
This lousy pitcher is the guy Keith thinks can win double digits…. maybe in the Century Keith…...
So you guys have Clinton who wants to be the Pres and you guys have Lieby who wants to be the first guy to run and lose for VP on both parties, and you guys have Bloomy who wants to be Pres but won't pull the trigger, and then you had Bradley who was a great hoops guy who tried to be Pres.
I hope we win 41 games so you have the worst team in history forever…....If these T ballers don't come thru we may win only 39….
Annie Savoy ,
"Isn't it interesting that both David Wright and Lastings Milledge are the sons of active police officers?"
I give up, what's the catch?
CHURCH RULES!
Annie:I'm a fan of baseball as a whole, I just don't see a yankees rain delay as important news on a mets blog comments page. You should know Yankees is a four letter word around here.
Reyes of 2005 was like clockwork. Try to bunt at strike one, watch strike two and eventually strike out. He at least makes contact now. I would say he has markedly improved since then.
CHURCH IS MY BOY! As soon as I get back to NY and Shea you can bet I'll shell out the 25 bucks for a Church tee.
Manny did the right thing by benching Milledge. Maybe one day a light will go on for him. But, he's their headache now, not the Mets.-JD
delgado hasnt disappointed. a hole in the lineup.
thank goodness for church.
Zephyrs scored 5 runs in the first inning and Nickeas got an RBI. just in case we needed any more catchers there is an update
gary and ron make me LOL!
what would you do for a race at Citi Field?
What's wrong with you metsies ??? eve when youi are winning you spend more time complaining about your own team than supporting them…. My alter me was so wright about the little metsies you are despicable little metsies.
EXCEPT for KEITH ANNIE CLM METSFAN and of course NYMETSGRRL94 who are GREAT MET fans…... wait until you are losing to bitch about your team…... even little metsfan knows a win is a win…...
How will you ever become # 1 when you never stop with the complaining….
Now I'm going to look for some pony ball kids to be our new infield…. see you all later and stop complaining when you are winning. It is beneath even your diginity…..
DC – sure I loved it when the 'macaca' sp.?Warner had to leave, but I would never confuse him with one of Elizabeth Taylor's husbands. Your other Senator – Webb -an Army man also writes interesting books and has a kid in Iraq.
Clinton who wants to be President, lives in New York after receiving a mercy Senate seat and should stay there. Lieberman is banned from CT by me, and I wish Mike Bloomberg would run if only for his financial knowledge.
Bill Bradley was a great Knick with Frazier, Debussure et.al and would have been a great President, but folks were put off by his Princeton education. Still a great guy.
PS – my brother also lives 'outside the district' but is faithful to the hapless Orioles.
Typical F@@@ing Perez!!!!!!!, you get him the lead and he comes out and gives up walks and hits and gives it right back.
It's not my money but i wouldn't pay him next year, let him walk, the mets will get a number one draft pick and build the farm.
Mr. Perez, this is your fifth inning wake-up call.-JD
This is the reason the Mets are hesitant to resign Perez. He just loses all focus in one inning…
I repeat, let Perez walk. Whatever team signs him the Mets will get there #1 draft pick. I rather have the pick, this guy is not worth a five year deal at 10 mil+.
Anybody have a Tums?-JD
I'm very mixed about Perez. Only because if we let him go, how do we replace him? Who fills that hole in the rotation. Especially since i think it's 75-25 in favor of letting Pedro walk this offseason(why expect him to make enough starts to be a difference maker?). That makes 2 holes in the rotation. Do we pray that Figueroa and Pelfrey are for real? Omar seems to know what he's doing when it comes to FA pitchers though. Thank GOD he didn't sign that albatross named Zito.
who knows what Zito could have done with Peterson?
That's my DAVID!
I think delgado just hurt his hip on that play at first, DL anybody?
ugh that was a painful inning.
There's going to be plenty of FA options out there…
People say Willie blows out the bullpen…. What choice does he have when you have mental midgets like Perez???
John –
I will continue to support Willie as I think he is a really good guy in a tough spot, but is the problem with the team his, his coaches or the fact that many of the players don't seem to care enough to work at their game?
I saw a lot of leadership from Santana yesterday, perhaps his example will have an effect—soon.
he was stepped on.
now be nice metsies….. don't be bad fans…..
O's fan in your family Annie …. The O's are one of the reasons this team doesn't have a lot of support….
They took over all the fans in the MD burbs whe they were good, and then when they built their new park which was a first of its kind.
Second reason was this team had that horrible fight with the city over paying for this hideous park. With all the problems in the district the greed of baseball turned off a lot of people over who was paying how much…....
The other reason was getting this rotten franchise that was destroyed by Bud Selig and OMAR MINAYA the Bud Selig and now Wilpon lackey. We would have been better off with an expansion team with good baseball people like the D Backs had and like the early Marlins had than this team with nothing anywhere in the system or the org. Then they finally get an owner and its harder to destroy and rebuild then it is to do it right from scratch.
Casanova must have missed that day in Little League when they teach you how to run to first base.-JD
Nickeas has another double
I guess watching how little the Metsie players care about playing hard, i can understand why the little metsie fans are so angry all the time. Doens't the type of play embarrass the heck out of you guys and gals?
That guy Cassanova should have been pulled off the field for that 400 foot single ….
JD- i have a whole jar of multi flavored tums. also i have italian briosche.. let me know which you need most.
I feel like we are back in the 70s or 90s. all over again..
adam bostick got an RBI single. even the Mets minor league pitchers are htting
94: Are you in love ?????
I'm taking a bet on this inning.
I say Perez won't be able to last the 6th inning before Willie will have to go to the bullpen.
JD- yeah i have no clue why cassanova didnt run.
DC –
Baseball and politics are intertwined aren't they. NYC is getting two new stadiums, one of which is truly not needed and will end up costing taxpayers a pretty penny. Creative bookeeping will be used.
I have to listen to the Mets on the radio as the SNY people and the Cox Cable people and the Mets will not provide SNY to many of the people in CT – perhaps I need to go and see Arlen Spector in person!!! My congressman lives in my neighborhood, but he's new and a Red Sox fan.
Brother lives much closer to Camden Yards than DC.
Casanova missed first base and had to go back.-JD
Annie,
Oliver Perez is immune to leadership. His shield is impervious to Santana's teachings.
Milledge pinch-hitting. ... This should make you happy. Heilman now coming in for the Mets.-JD
heilman is coming in. there goes the tie game
Is one out really too much to ask of OP?
Hackman coming in now? This should be interesting…
I won that bet, I say, LET PEREZ GO, HE IS NOT WORTH THE MONEY!!!!
JD- yeah i saw that too. but on the dropped bunt?
shoulda ran.
tomg – no one took that bet.. it was an easy call.
Do I hear, Three run homer Heilman!!!!
John – perhaps Manny just wants to get Lastings out of the clubhouse.. and the parade of the Mets bullpen pitchers starts.
JD,
If the Mets win this game, IF, you have to promise not to say "well it doesn't matter that it was the Nats." It matters. This is so ugly. They should be stomping these guys.
bases loaded
Uh, not that pitch again.
Can any met pitcher throw a strike. At this point willie should grab somebody off the street couldn't do any worse.
If you think this is ugly wait until the Braves come in for three games.
Ryan Church is useless. He's a scrub from a last-place team who can't hit lefty pitching. And I've never seen him slide to make a catch, either.
wow! lose aaron heilman
A grand slam – again????????????
I f-ucking HATE Aaron Heilman…
Well, heilman has become a major dog.
un-effing real. This is the mets i have known and loved all my life. sigh its early in the season.. its early in the season…
Have fun at Shea Aaron, I hope they have extra security.
Aarone Heilman, Ladies and Gents! Pass me the pepto
Homerun Heilman does it again. Heilman is no longer a concern, he is a problem. Where's Guillermo Mota?-JD
aaron does not know how to pitch
tiffany: church has been great..what team are you watching?
mota- is doing roids in another bullpen.
get heilman OUT!
All I can say for all the Met fans that keep saying that this is no big deal, it's early, it's only april and they know who they are, if you think that this team will be fine. I have a bridge to sell you.
Tiffany, where have you been? Church is one of the few Mets who is playing like he's worth a damn these days.-JD
enuff with the bullpen. willie needs to just let teh starters go 9 and see what happens screw it. pretend its old time ball.
Yeah, Church has been pretty darn good. Not sure how you can find fault with him so far.
Church is a scrub that a last-place team didn't want. He can't hit lefty pitching. He doesn't slide in the outfield. I just don't like him.
The collaspe is still going and going and going and going!!!!!
tomg- i am only saying its early to lull myself into a false sense of hope that i have had for 44 years.
Why are you metsies metsies? You hate all the metsies…..
You didn't listen to me when I said this was the battle of the two worst teams in the NL East….. Relax and have fun…. don't be so serious little metsies…
I hope little Aaron wears earplugs whenever you go home to the parking lot. You can still win.. We really suck a lot, even more than you do.
Oh—I'm sorry. I was just having a flashback. Oops. Gotta stop repeating what I've read around here. Sorry to all.
Steve – I happen to agree with you
tiffany. not liking him is one thing. but he's been producing and has been clutch for the mets. but i understand that. i havent liked delgado for 2 years now.
How many grand slams has this team given up? I can think of at least 3. Seems like one a game though.
thanx annie :-)
Tiffany: What the H E double hockey sticks are you talking about?? First off, scrubs don't hit 42 doubles…And if the Nats didn't want him, they would've cut him… He's also hit lefties very well to begin the season.. So what if he doesn't slide? He doesn't need to slide, he catches mostly everything before it falls… Just because you have a retarded bias against him doesn't mean he's not good…
Tiffany,
to be honest, I don't like this team at all except for David Wright. Santana hasn't been here long enough for me to like him. I started to feel this way after the 2006 season and more so half way through last season. Thank God that the rangers are starting the second round of the playoffs tomorrow, that will get me away from this team.
94: I hope you did your homework…. It would be more fun then watching the metsies tonite.
New Message for starting Mets pitchers:
This game is yours until the seventh inning and you will have to deal with whatever happens unless there is a monsoon and the game is called.
Good Luck
does carlos have to carry this team on his back?
I'm sick and tired of watching Willie Randolph manage this bullpen. This is no cop out for Aaron Heilman, who has been possibly the worst relief pitcher in the league thus far. I thought Willie should be fired after last season, and though I know the Mets wouldn't do it now, but if the Mets aren't in first place by the All-Star game, you have to fire the guy.
So, Oliver Perez is Oliver Perez. He was great, then he sucked, but he was in the 6th inning with two outs, men on second and third, and a chance to get out of the inning with the free swinging Lastings Milledge at the plate. But, Willie doesn't trust Perez and goes to the bullpen. You would expect in the 6th inning, with a right handed batter up that Willie would go to his right handed specialist in Joe Smith, but he's not that bright.
So on comes the worst relief pitcher in the NL This year, Aaron Heilman. Heilman is like that dog that barks really loud, but doesn't bite. He comes out throwing 94-95 MPH, but has no location, and hitters are just sitting on his changeup. He somehow WALKED Lastings Milledge -
Lastings Milledge- to load the bases for Felipe Lopez. This is the same Felipe Lopez who didn't have a job last week, and yet Heilman, like Heilman does, gave up a grandslam to Lopez. Now the Mets are down by 4, and you know they aren't coming back. The sad part is I'd be willing to bet that Joe Smith will make an appearance in this game.
Dear Omar,
Please, Please, Fire Willie Randolph.
Sincerely,
Met Fans
Oh yea, I forgot sanchez, I always like him also. Like santana, church is new so i don't have a feel for him either yet, even though he has perform better than i thought he would.
i just cant get over how much the teams lean on their bull pens .
thank you BELTRAN!
Okay – let's see what Willie has to say after the game…hmmm…failure to execute….blah, blah, blah. Heilman gives up the slam and then he leaves him in after the next two batters get hits. Did he want to see if they could hit ten runs? I seriously wonder sometimes if Willie actually wants to win. I feel him to always be a little more concerned about himself than the team. He is not impressive.
I distinctly remember reading on this blog that Church was a scrub on a last place team who can't hit lefty pitching and won't slide for balls in the outfield. Are you calling me a liar?
There is really nothing to say about this team anymore that hasn't been said. JD, I'm pretty you can recycle a story from last season for the paper tomorrow. No one would notice.
Roger,
Don't worry, I don't think willie will last this season. I got a feeling the mets will be well positioned in third place by or after the all star break. I can see willie getting fired.
I thought you guys said Wright was good. I don't remember him getting even one little hit against the hapless Nats this week…. Do you?
There was a clutch hit by Betran…. A big nobody on shot…. Remember you can still win.. The Nats really really suck…..
in willie's defense. its the wave of the future of baseball. 100 pitches regardless if u r throwing flawlessly like santanna did last night. out you go and leave your game up to whomeevr is in the bull pen.
that is so sad. I love to listen to ronnie and keith hate how baseball is played today.
i think every time somebody from the Mets bullpen is coming in "Harder to Breath" by Maroon 5 should be played
3 GS given up but the Mets BP this year.
Not looking good for Heilman giving two of them.
didn't sosa give up the other?
that was a great hit but not clutch.
clutch is tying the game,or better top of the 9th. after being behind. or men on base 2 outs and u drive a run. thats clutch.
Well, I'm sure I will get killed for this but since I am a yankee hater at least I have my second favorite team to follow, the red sox.
Tiffany … Of course not. I've read it, too. But, I've been saying since the spring to give this guy a chance. I think he'll be good player for them.-JD
Willie has explaining to do with his BP
Who is worse?
A)Delgado
b)Mets BP (overall)
tomg – for sure, I won't kill you in fact you are just broadening your knowledge of the game of baseball by watching more than one team. (Which has won two World Series lately – and recently had a nice ring ceremony – did you see it?)
fricken DELGADDAGO!
This team is truly embarrassing….
why does willie believe everybody in the bullpen is so good? he has to see their stats as well
rebel. no contest. smelgado is worse.
Maybe you can't catch up.. You guys really suck almost as much as we do, maybe as much…...
John – last I saw, Church had the highest batting average on the Mets….
It is funny how I basically just wrote that Delgado lets a ball go by. Off a hit from the Nationals while having the Mets BP pitching. Unbelievable. Really it is.
Annie Savoy,
unfortunately I wasn't able to see the Sox get there rings but i heard about it.
Can you believe it? The official scorer ruled that ball past Delgado a hit. There's no excuse to be that lame.-JD
Wait, I am confused. Who in the bullpen is the mop up guy? Oh, it is a trick question. They all are!
I just turned off the radio on my computer. It seems like every time I listen to a game the lose. Last night I did not listen-they won. I want to believe that the Mets can turn it around but they are not convincing.
John – In fact, Church is doing fine – he's got the highest average on the team now, doesn't he? Thought I saw he was over 350.
Heilman and Sosa, these guys share everything. They both give up grand slams to crummy players and if one stinks up the joint, the other joins him.
Maybe tomorrow, :(.
unreal.
runnin rebel basically just took the blame for the loss away from heilman and sosa.
bravo!
Boy, this reminds me of the end of the season last year when all the mets had to do is win two games out of 8 to win the division and every game the bullpen would get smoked. It's hard to believe that the bullpen could be smoked already but it reminds me of the end of the season. Oh yea, Reyes blows, I now have lost all patience with him. I do not like Reyes anymore, he is a dog also.
He might be hitting .350, but he really should have slid for that last ball hit to him in the outfield. He might have thrown Nieves out at the plate, if only he had remembered to slide.
"when you love someone and they break your hear don't give up on love have faith restart" just heard that lyric and feel like it fits perfectly
There's ten runs. Somebody wake up Willie! Tell him room service arrived.
Half Mets BP bad.( Heidelberg, Snow white, The other Sammie Sosa)
Other Half, pretty good. (Smith, Sanchez, Wagner, Feliciano (yes I still think he is good))
Why does the first half get more playing time? I know why it's just hurting our team.
how can you really still be sane?
Well now even after turning the radio off the still gave up runs I guess. Maybe I just should not have listened to it at all..
Annie,
Yes, Church has the highest average, and it's not close either. We can end the Ryan Church debate. He might remind Tiffany of an ex-boyfriend, but he has been very good.
This team better figure out a way to extract their heads from their behinds before Chipper and those god damn, straw-chewing yokels blow into town.
If you think this is bad wait until the braves come in and sweep the mets, you know it's coming. Like a bad virus.
Does anybody have Doug Sisk's phone number? Come back Gene Walter, all is forgiven! Anthony Young wasn't this bad losing 26 in a row. Does Craig Anderson need a job to supplement his annuities?
Tomorrow is another day. I hope Randolph gives Delgado a day or two off. He's played every day, can't Marlon Anderson take the 1B job for a game? Maybe the Mets should follow the William Veeck strategy when he was Cubs GM in the 1920s..take a slumping club out for a night on the town, visit a few speakeasies, meet some nice girls.
describe this game in 1 word
mine would be UGH!
JM – They are probably already there – is Glavine still on the DL?
screw the pitch count. and sit delgado. watch how fast the team turns around.
I have been a loyal Met fan since 1983. I must say watching this team this year makes me want to vomit. Terrible hitting and horrible pitching. Other than Wright, Church, Pagan, Wagner and Santana who else is playing like they want to win. Also I just hate Castillo batting second and I think I hate Willie even more. Something has to give. Lets go Mets!!!
Is delgado still worse than half the BP (the bad half)?
Dan – maybe Ron would come in from the Booth – he's still in good enough shape to take an inning or two.
Feliciano is in. Let see if he walks the first batter or two. He has been doing that lately which is yet another concern.
How about we DL the whole team and bring up the mets triple A
affiliate, can't be any worse, no, yes?
"aaron [bombs away] heilman does it again!"
that is a comment on metsblog.
i think it should be aaron [f-bombs away] heilman
My word for tonite's game is AWESOME
See ya soon metsies when you catch down to us…....
I found this Fire Willie Petition. Not sure how long it's been around, but I'm going to start getting it around the internet and Monitor it. As of now (when I found it) it has 21 signatures. I'm sure within a week, it'll be near a thousand.

I have to admit. I am going to take a long break watching this team because if i continue to watch the Mets I will become very ill. The mets aren't worth watching at this point. If this is what 140 mil+ buys you than somebody got ripped off, Wilpons anybody.
tomg- zephyrs winning 11-1 top 7th
What will firing Willie do? Maybe we have to face the cold hard reality that this team just sucks??
Oh my, everybody is leaving the park… We can't stand winning and in the words of our hideous announcer… When was the last time we made somebody look bad… and the other guy says I can't remember it ever happening before
Thank you metsies…!!!!!!!!!
"What will firing Willie do? Maybe we have to face the cold hard reality that this team just sucks??"
One little metsie got it!!!!!!! BINGO….
Ryan Church is your star….. Yes, you will fight us for the cellar…..............
your welcome, have fun watching your 7-16 team.
NYMetsGrrl94,
"zephyrs winning 11-1 top 7th"
see, not to shabby, I say DL the big club and bring up the New Orlean Zephrs, LOL!!!
Roger, you won't have to have a Fire Willie Petition drive.
Omar will do it for you. That is why Willie was kept this yr so in case the team did poorly he could blame it on Willie and not himself who like all management people who get to high places in a company know how to make sure they are not accountable for the actions that they should be held accountable for (like in this case not having enough good prospects in the minors or making poor decisions on other aspects of player personnel).
Don't be a typical fan and blame the guy on the field who does not play the game and does not make the decisions on who is on the team.
By the way, I understand Jeff Wilpon was at the game yesterday. I wonder if he and Omar were there tonite and if Omar was whispering in his ear "not my fault".
DC – Nice talking politics and baseball with you. Mets are hitting now, but too little, too late.
Annie: Maybe Keith can come down to give Delgado a day off to join Ron.
I do not think the team sucks…The palyers seem like they are not into it. I guess this team does not remember last season. I guess I expected this team to play with a certain sense of unfinished business to take care of. However lets not forget how banged up most of the team was during the sping.
And it is a known fact that Omar and the Wilpons are very tight.
Willie will be let go. Just like Steve Phillips, the Wilpons will let Omar have alot more slack than the manager.
Dan – I saw a lot of the Mets in the mid 80s. Perhaps both Ron and Keith could do some 'coaching' at least.
Well, there are going to be a lot of happy faces downstairs.-JD
Howie says the game is "In the Book". Don't read it though, it's not a happy ending.
This isn't all on Willie, I'm not sure even most of it is. Some of these guys just plain stink (Sosa, Delgado), some of them are in outer space (Reyes), some are just still upset that they cancelled Mad About You. Whatever it is, they are no better than a .500 team. For $140 million, I expect better.
John – 200+ posts tonight – Congratulations.
J
This was fun little metsies but I'm going back to be Delcos, I mean Bob, i mean Keith, I mean JK,,,,,, I mean W now…... I wanna finish out my term as President and see if I can make your gas price reach 15 bucks a gallon before I get kicked out of town. Bye Metsies….. How apporpriate the game ends with a clutch pop up by your best player Ryan church!!!!!!!!!!
Bye bye. see you in the summer …........
I have to say if Milledge has been late coming to the clubhouse several times already, then Minaya did the right thing in shipping him out. Getting two guys in return was just gravy. How many guys have had great careers pulling stuff like that. Rickey Henderson maybe? Anyone remember an ABA player named Marvin Barnes? Tremendous talent but throw his career away not being serious about his career.
JD-good luck downstairs. have a few drinks for me.
This is the mets .. been watching them since the 60's. and i will continue to watch em ..
Lets go mets go..
Not saying it is on Willie. Just saying BB is like any other big corporation and Omar will be doing a lot of politicking if heads have to roll (which they shouldn't) so that his he is not the one rolling.
Some people just don't seem to get the concept.
its delgado being an empty spot in the lineup. and its the pitch count. and weak armed starters. i blame major league baseball for making this 100 pitch thing. it sux and takes from the game..
and if willie wont have the balls delgado then have him bat 7th now.
send a message.
thats should have said. if will wont have the balls to sit delgado. then have him bat 7th.
I haven't seen anything from Milledge that makes me upset that he is gone. He still can't hit offspeed picthes, makes poor baserunning decisions and plays a so-so OF at best.
Delgado better take that day off that Willie has been asking him to do. The natives at Shea will be restless tomorrow.
The leash will be VERY short tomorrow night, Scoopcoop. Fans will be all over them right quick if they don't come through in the 1st inning w/ men on.
Hello from DC- I find it funny that the highlight of your season is splitting a series with the mets. If you think we'll be listed next to you in the standings, you must be tripping on acid. Enjoy the next three years of cellar dwelling. If you enjoy this win so much, you'll enjoy approximately 75 games this season
The bullpen and delgado are our major problems right now. I liked matt wise in the spring, hopefully he can take some pressure away from bombs away Heilman if he ever comes back. Jose needs to step it up too. There is no way we can keep up this pace of winning 5 and losing 3. It's early but i'm not happy. And I'm much more conservative than most met fans.
john – I have a question for you, do the players/coaches read blogs ect to get a feeling of what the fans think?
Lets see here: Scoopcoop and so many others told the world that we had so many great releivers we could trade some away for a RH 1B/RF…. I guess that ain't hapening is it scoopcoop…. Lets see, historically we Met fans hate one releiver, usually the closer, Franco, Looper, Benitez. Last year we expanded that to hate the set up men, Mota, Schoeneweis. Now with a 7 man pen we hate Heilmann, Sosa, Schoneweies, leaving us with a 4 man pen. Now if this were 69, it might work but unfortunately, pitchers today stop work when they reach @ 100 pitches not when they rewach the bottom of the 9th so the 4 man strategy is a loser. So we are exactly where we were last August except we have an imploding pen in April…. Bad news I fear.
What did this team do… Give its all for three days in Philthy and get exhausted??? Following up a good series with three out four not losses but non competitive games is not the thing that contenders are made of.
Of course after 130 games of .500 ball what kind of team has Omar presented? They could have come back in the 9th. Rauch had nothing, but as usual late and behind ewhen there's a chance to do something interesting, it doesn't matter who's up, nothing happens, unless our substitute OF is up.
that must be another scoopcoop you are talking about sloppy. I never stated that mets should trade RP or any pitching for a 1B. In fact, I have stated the opposite.
OK, I am bad on this one…. But someone wanted to trade some of the "spare" parts from this outstanding and deep pen.
anyone from nj – bus ride to shea on july 26th – anyone interested
