Mets in the Afternoon

April
22

-Maybe tomorrow for Brian Schneider. He took BP and did some throwing. Nice shade of black-and-blue. Wonder if they can match it as a paint color at Home Depot.

-Ryan Church and Luis Castillo have the day off. Just rest for Church. Castillo’s knee is bothering him.

-No word yet on a return date for Moises Alou.

-Willie Randolph said he’s not considering reducing Aaron Heilman’s workload.

Willie shouldn't reduce Heilman's workload, he should end it. Overall, the pen has been good enough. Take Heilman out of the mix, and we've got 3 more wins.

Why not reduce his workload? Willie just being stubborn.

Castillo's knee bothering him? What else is new.

is it "too early" to pull out delgado for the day?

SNY is saying that Pedro and El Duque are being evaluated in NY. It could mean a return to "baseball activities" for the former and the removal of that cast-like shoe for the latter.

In a related story, General Francisco Franco is still dead.

I feel bad… I picked on the metsies too much. So I will join you today rooting the mets on to a glorious victory against those mean ole Cubs and that feisty Lou Piniella. I'm back to my roots in the NE Bronx, where I was surrounded by hideous Yankee fans…. but us, the Bronx minority took the 5 train downtown and switched to the 7 train and on to wonderful Shea Stadium!!!!!!

Nice line up today. Good to see those DC rejects riding the pine, and that gimpy Castillo, oh no 4 more years … was that Nixon or Castillo? And why isn't Marlon on first. Delgado should be cut just like Frank Thomas was….
Bring up some guy from Savannah to play first. I'll be back… Looking for my John Olerud jersey…..

el dookie better keep that boot on. I don't want to ever want him back. All that means for Willie is to bump down Fig. 1 and if that happens (well lets just see what happens today) ..

brady has some gound to make up.

I hope they bean RJ again.

Oh if only we had Fukudome…... He's so much better than Shinjo was…..

  8. hello from Pelham Pkwy

Yippee…. Nelson Figeuroa for Cy Young Award!!!!!!!

I hope metsies don't break my heart today. I remember Timo Perez breaking my heart, when he was watching instead of running…..

"el dookie better keep that boot on. I don't want to ever want him back."

This is so obnoxious. El Duque pitched great for us ever since he came over from 'Zona. It's not his fault his body is breaking down.

  10. runnin rebel

Yes it is his fault he did not take care of his bunion earlier. Seriously, he needs to be done.

El Dookie has not pitched great at all this season. This season is what matters. Not other seasons. Those seasons are finished and in the books.

  11. Keith

Do you read the papers? If he "took care of the bunion" his career would effectively be over. I give him credit for trying to give the Mets something in the last year of his contract.

Seriously, calling him "El Dookie" is not witty and I will repeat, obnoxious. It is appalling how some fans treat players like race horses. Heck, people showed more sympathy towards Barbaro than Met fans have towards El Duque.

  12. runnin rebel

El Dookie's career is over. Get over it. He did well in the past and now the time have come fo to let others take his place. I am not saying put the guy to sleep like a race horse but he should "effectively" retire.

    The nickname stays until otherwise..

Also If you do not like what I have to say, do not read it.

I am surprised it is taking you this long to recognize it.

Yes it is obnoxious I agree, but based on El dookie's recent performance (or there lack of) has been represented as obnoxious and crappy.

  13. Keith

It's just blatantly disrespectful for no justifiable reason. The guy pitched well for us. It's not like he was Victor Zambrano.

For a supposed Mets fan to show such hostility towards a player who performed well for us and it trying his hardest to get back on the field is simply puzzling.

Further, your pitiful attempt at a witty play on words with his nickname is sad and pathetic.
