Mets Chat Room: On to Chicago.

April
21

Greetings from the Wrigley roof top. Mets just finished taking batting practice and we will be underway in little over a half-hour.

John Maine against Carlos Zambrano. Maine’s fastball command has been off and his walks are way up. Can’t afford to let too many runners get on base in this place.

Spoke with Howard Johnson before the game and said he sees hope in Carlos Delgado if he stays patient. He also admitted a player his age coming off an injury and down year is reason to be concerned.

IN-GAME ANALYSIS

1st INNING: Easy inning for Maine, with help from Raul Casanova, who threw out a runner attempting to steal. Mets 0, Chicago 0.
4th INNING: Take away one pitch and Maine is pitching a great game. Of course, every pitch counts. Chicago 2, Mets 0.
7th INNING: Ron Santo sings “Take Me out to the Ballgame.” Chicago 2, Mets 1.

9th INNING: Speaking of singing, remember Don Meredith?“Turn out the lights, the party’s over …. ” Chicago 7, Mets 1.

  1. sloppy

This is revolutionary news for a Met oficial. Expressing concern might get HoJo the axe.

  2. Annie Savoy

Oh, I had forgotten where Lou Pinella was working these days …..this should be an interesting couple of days.

  3. Kalyan Pokala

The camera work is poor again. Yay for ESPN.

(Yes Annie, I know they are terrible, I just needed to say something.)

  4. Annie Savoy

KP – Tonight I am enjoying listening to them, particularly Orel Hirsheiser. Former Pitchers, the good ones, often have very interesting conversational styles in the booth. Palmer and Seaver were almost too technical, in fact.

And yes, the ESPN camera work is too flashy, but Wrigley is pretty much the same old place without a lot of glitz.

  5. JM

    Delgado!

  6. JM

    Get him the ball!

  7. MackeySasser

This game is over. 2-0 isn't a huge margin, but the bats are completely silent. Great hangover from last night.

  8. JM

    MackeySasser,

Zambrano has been good, but it's the 5th inning. 9 innings in a baseball game.

  9. MackeySasser

It's not so much about Zambrano even being good, it's about the lackluster lineup that we are sporting.

There's nothing more I'd like than to have Zambrano shut the f up.

  10. JM

That is exactly the kind of AB that will keep Maine from becoming a star. He just wasted 4 pitches on the King of Clout, Mike Fontenot. Unreal.

  11. John Delcos

The Jacket just finished lecturing Maine. Big moment in the game because Lee can make it 4-0 in a hurry.-JD

  12. JM

Well Willie should have pinch hit Maine for Castillo last night haha.

  13. pvhornet05

Am I the only one who noticed that the billboard behind the plate shows 2 different stuff on SNY and ESPN.

  14. JM

6 innings 2 runs against a very good offense. He still needs to throw less pitches, but the offense needs to pick him up.

  15. Annie Savoy

If the Mets don't start hitting, I'm going to sneak a peek at Dancing with the Stars – there's always some excitment there.

C'mon guys – the April games really do count.

  16. Jimmy dean

    PVhornet

It's because the images are superimposed onto the screen. It's not really there, people at the games don't actually see what's written there, what they see is a blue or green background.

  17. pvhornet05

    ahh thanks jimmy

  18. JM

Aaron may just want to pitch on the road this season. His physical safety cannot be assured at Shea.

  19. BH

Are you freaking kidding me? 1-2 count and he leaves that #$!@ out over the plate? Unbelievable, and yet completely expected.

  20. Stillsane

Way to keep the game close Heilman and Sosa!!! The only thing that didn't happen was Willie putting in Show after Sosa gave up the homer to see if he could give up one also!

  21. pvhornet05

I know Heilman sucked today but he should have been out of that inning if Reyes didn't commit that error.

  22. Annie Savoy

This game is now "in the book" and we'll close it quickly, looking forward to tomorrow afternoon with Nelson Figueroa.

  23. Stillsane

I hope Figueroa can go eight. Either that, or, hope that he has a four run plus lead.

  24. JM

Other than Maine, it was not pretty tonight.

  25. scoopcoop

This game was probably lost before it was ever played given that Mets came off an emotional, close series w/Phils and got to Chitown at 5am, and they were facing Zambrano who has been lights out.

And given that they get to face Lilly tomorrow who has been stinking it up, I don't understand Willie pitching Heilman again tonite (4 out of 5 days). Willie should have saved him for tomorrow, a better chance to win.

Mets have faced some teams that hit alot of HRs. But they are given them up (4th most in NL)

  26. helllo from Dc

Mr Scoopy… that's quite a whiny little post there. the game was lost before it started????? what kind of metsie are you. obviously you don't have any faith in your team. and obviously you don't know why willie pitched little Aaron today. He ptched him because HE COULDN'T BLOW ANOTHER GAME!!!!...

METS LOSE METS LOSE METS LOSE

    Lou Piniella hooray!!!!!!!!

PS: lilly won't be stinky tomorrow Mr Scoopy, he's gonna eat your whiny team and very whiny fans for late lunch!!!

    METS LOSE METS lose again

WHERE'S METSFAN NOT… HE A FAIR WETHER ONLY FAN…. HE'S UNDER HIS PILLOWS CRYING IN SHAME!!!!!!!

  27. Stick

    some thoughts

    1) Heilman should no way, no how been in this game, unless it was an emergency hold situation. He has pitched a bunch of days lately, and a lot of pitches in Philly. Should have gotten the day off.

    2) Maine should have pitched the 7th, meaning Sanchez the 8th, and Heilmann and Sosa get a rest.

Of course, they still would have lost 2-1, but now the pen is even more fried.

    3) Castillo is now, by far, my least favorite Met. Don't like him as a player, and the 4 year deal forces me to root for a blown ACL to get rid of him (and I am not really that mean!)

    4) Delgado has now become Cerano McSIngleton (or Slappy the 2nd if you prefer). Instead of the edge of the OF, he can hit the middle of the OF (sometimes), but doesn't bunt as well.

    5) Is there any other catcher besides Casanova to call up? Brian, come back, we miss you!

And finally, 6) I am glad I had to go out before the bottom of the 8th, and was actually not in the car to hear any of the runs!

  28. Stick

Oh, I know this is just the internet, but I am actually starting to worry about DC guy. I think he really might need professional help.

  29. JK

I never got the feeling the Mets had a good chance to win this one. Zambrano was on top of his game and this was too much for the Mets struggling offense.

You can understand Zambrano shutting them down, but if they don't score a lot against Lily tomorrow then there is a serious problem.

Agree with scoop that Heilman should have been rested. He's on pace to pitch 102 innings. And he's throwing a lot of pitches in his innings. They're going to burn him out at this pace. This is why Schoeneweis is such a waste on this team. There is justifiably little confidence in using him. But that means they just end up overusing the other relievers.

  30. runnin rebel

The mets need to figure out what to do with guys who are in a slump…..

Also notice: When Church was batting second… they won. when he batted down in the order…they lost…Any correlation? I doubt it. Just thought i would mention it though.

  31. JK

Well at least F-Mart, Carp, Evans, and Murphy all had 2 hits tonight in a win against Trenton. Carp is hitting .449. Hopefully we get to see some of these boys up at Shea sometime this summer.

  32. runnin rebel

Call me optimistic but Delgado did get a hit today.. maybe he will turn it around….It would be great to release that guy as much as I be upset that it would have to come down to that. However, he is not paying his way. Who else would they have for first base?

It's strange that we as fans seem to know where the troubles are but do you think Willie knows too? I think so.

Do you think there are things that he can fix? Maybe some things but to get a batter out of a slump or to get a pitcher out of trouble, I dont know. I have to think Willie wants to win as much or more than anyone else. There must be more to it than we all know.

As for DC guy who is apparently trying to get as rise out of Met fans. Nothing new here. He is showing his age. That's fine, it's a free cyberspace (for the most part). Being a Nats fan sucks. I would be bitter as hell if I was him too. That team has potential but they lacks some other key positions to be a winning team. Who else to blame the Nats failure other than their ex GM right? If that makes you feel better then vent away.

However, keep this in mind: The Nationals are in last place right now and they have a new GM. Your running out of excuses.

Some of us Met fans have faith whereas some do not. Your going to get those mixed reactions after mixed results early in the season.

I like to think that Met fans are different from the typical DC fan (lobbying in this blog). We met fans do not come with excuses for why our team wins and loses. While we may say, "this is why our team lost today.." we speak as a matter-of-fact point of view. We want change and express what changes should be done.

Based on typical Nats fan, I am not sure what they want other than wanting to be in first place. I am sure they want the Mets to lose. This is natural because they are in last place. Maybe they should want smaller goals like having a winning season or acquiring a certain pitcher.

What really do not understand are your ps. Maybe it's PMS and you mispelled.. nut I will give you the benefit of the doubt. Your not writing a letter here. Whatever you have to say-just say it. The PS proves nothing other than you forget to mention something.. but you do have time revise before you submit.

  33. JM

    Stick,

That is, by far, the funniest thing I have read on this blog. Absolutely brilliant. And you're right, it may be just the internet, but our friend from DC doesn't sound completely healthy.

  34. helllo from Dc

oh, I'm so happy stick the whiney little metsie is wrried about me. you know I went toi the weather site and I see there are flood warnings in your dirty parking lot in Queens from all the crying by the little metsies over 2 lousy gsames in arow. wah wah wah go the little metsies.

and jk is happy because the little little metsies got a couple hits. jk you are special… JK spends all his days and nights looking for the obvious and then he tells all the little metsies something they already know. JK is special. By the way do you meties know what jk called you??? he called you, mets nation, the smallerst sports nation in nyc, smaller than brooklyn cyclone nation, he called you all "despicable" and that's wehy I thnk JK is very special.. Coming to DC tomorrow JK.
Any of you little metsies coming to DC. We'll hewlp you boo your favorite metsies targets. which meties do you want us to do boo the miost aaron, either carlos??? We'll boo them all. They must love it since you metsies boo them all the time….
    METS LOSE METS METS….
And to the whiniest little metsie of them all runnin rebel… did they give you Tarkanian's towels to clean when he was done biting them??? Do the metsies cheat as much as the runnin rebels did when they were good? You are disgusting if you really think you the whiney. despicable metsies know whats wrong with Delgado but wonder oif Willie does… How freakin pathetic your ego…. thats why metsie fans are the laughingstock of baseball. That's why being a little metsie sucks not being a little nat. metsies are in the word of JK, DESPICABLE…

    GO CUBS

  35. helllo from Dc

rebel you are also in need of schooling in reading comprehension if you read your fellow despicable metsie posts and still stay metsies don't come with excuses. That's all little metsies do.. wah wah wah.. excpet for the metsies you hate, and there are so many…...

    GO CUBS…
and I'm in your head rebel and the metsies will break your broken hearts again and again. and that why the NY YANKEES are # 1 in NYC and the metsies are never that…..

  36. letsgometsgo

All this over analyzing the bullpen, when the game was lost when Reyes hit into his DP. Then the team quit, as they often do.

To the guy who wanted Maine to pitch the 7th. You wanted him to pitch about 125-130 pitches??? Really….

To the guy who said Heilmann would have been out of the inning if not for Reyes' error. Many here stated that OP was a lousy pitcher because he gave up so many un earned runs. What's good for OP is good for Heilmann.

To the guy hoping the AA boys are in Shea this summer.. Do you really want the Mets to be out of contention and rebuilding this year?

To the guy who said Maine was pretty: When OP gives up zero runs he is blasted here but when Maine/Pelfrey give up XX runs they are applauded. Why is that?

To the guys who say Casanova is a lousy game caller. How come his game calling is fine with Figueroa pitching?

  37. Keith

Everyone needs to calm the heck down.

The loss in Philly… hey, it's tough to sweep anyone, let alone Philly in Philly. Be happy we've taken 4 of 6 from them so far.

As for last night, we lost to Carlos freaking Zambrano. The dude has been slinging it so far this year. No shame in losing to Big Z.

The team is doing fine. I think they're starting to gell. Castillo and Delgado will get better once the weather warms up a bit and we should be getting Alou fairly soon. The lineup will look pretty nice when he gets back. Church and Schneider have done about as well as anyone could have hoped for, Pagan has filled in admirably, and the starting rotation has been more than solid. Aside from some big homers given up by Sosa and Heilman, the bullpen has been good as well.

So take a deep breathe and relax. Tonight they get back on track against Lily with Figgy on the hill.

  38. runnin rebel

I was not here when Tark was runnin the town, I was living back east. However, the Rebels have recently made it to the Madness two years in a row. This year they lost to Kansas..who won it all. The year before, they pulled the upset on Wisconsin.

Yes they did cheat to an extent only to get the players. The players themselves were not cheating. Other teams did as well. When the won the NCAA the beat every team by an avg. of 32. More can be said about the Rebels but that is for another blog.

Some of the Mets like others players around the league have cheated in the past. You Nats have one on your team right now.

As for the rest of your comments, I made my point and it speaks for itself. Other then your wasted ramble, if you have anything else to want to throw into the ring let me know.

  39. runnin rebel

    According to USA today

Nats rank last in batting avg .219
Mets rank 5th with avg .264

Nats rank third to last in pitching ERA 4.73
Mets rank 2nd with ERA 3.29

Why would you pick the Nats over the Mets?

  40. hello from Dc

You are such a nice little metsie keith. i hope you come to a game in Dc so you can set a good example for these other little metsies who aren't as nice as you…....
and you letsgometsgo… are you a new little metsie??? I'm not sure by your little post if you are a good little metsie like Keith or one those "despicable" metsies…..\\

When you come to our new park don't forget that the park is on the green line of the Metro. Not on the orange and blue (yuchie metsie colors) like the old dump was at.

PARKING FOR DELCOS who is not an environmentalist but is still a good guy: Delcos if the metsies are too cheap to provide you with parking pass you can buy parking space tickets on line. They are a total rip off but I'm sure you're paper pays the bill right? 15 bucks for far away lots and 40 bucks for by the park… But hey, a NYC paper no big deal!!!!
For all you good metsies who are disabled the new station has all kinds of lifts and stuff for you to get in and out of the metro with no problem.. You have that on the "7" train???

and for all you cheapskates you can park at the old dump and they'll bus you to the new park for free…..

and don't worry metsies… we ain't like the very "despicable" philthy fans. we won't beat you up and have you taken out in cuffs. We'll be good little metsies like you all are and we'll help you BOO THE METS!!!!!

You might even find a new concept… Having a good time…. something I know you metsies don't have at Shea but I bet they had a long time ago…. Just don't watch our games on TV because our announcer is the worst in the whole world. So if you hear Bob Carpenter, turn off the sound. The other guy used be with the Braves, Don Sutton, so you probably hate him but he's much better than Carpenter. I guess the Braves fired him. I don't know why he'd come here if he had another job with a good team.

One more thing little metsies. you hate willie but when you watch that ex met ACTA manage you will stop bitchin about Willie and thank your lucky stars he's your man. acta is a minaysa man… BAD BAD BAD…
But he's ours and we hardly ever boo him.

  41. Tiffany

Aaron Heilman is on pace to make 108 appearances this year.

  42. hello from Dc

you are such a silly running rebel… why would any normal person pick the mets.. they have what did you call them jk "despicable fans" .....

were your metsies never bad rebel??? I guess you are like that bad metsfan not and are only a fair weather fan. rebel, why is it the mets hardly ever win and the yankees are always in the playoffs?

remember the worst team in history rebel THE 1962 METS 40 wins and 120 LOSSES

remember the WORST TEAM MONEY COULD BUY rebel? The metsies of the 90's

REMEMBER THE WORST TEAM MONEY CAN BUY PART 2? THE 2008 METSIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

rebel, how did the towel taste?

  43. tomg

    To all Met fans,

This DC guy is obviously either disturbed or mentally retarded and has internet access from a psyche ward. This idiot post the same thing over and over again. Do all yourselves a favor and don't even bother reading his post, as soon as you see his name move to the next post. If you ignore the ignorant idiot and don't respond to his idiotic post he will eventually go away.

  44. JK

lgmg: What makes you think bringing up 1 or 2 kids to replace someone who goes on the DL, underperforms, is released or traded means “out of contention” and rebuilding? Top contending teams do it all the time. Some that even go on to win the WS.

  45. JK

rebel: the more you feed the troll, the more it litters the place with senseless crap

  46. runnin rebel

That is what everyone says…ignore him and he will go away..That usually does not work.

Why doesn't JD just ban him from the site?

  47. tomg

    runnin rebel,

I do agree with you about banning from site. The beginning of the hockey season this year I was posting on a ranger blog from the NY post and there was a troll (islander fan) doing the same thing and the guy who runs the blog did block the troll. Maybe it's because JD is a yankee fan, LOL…

I still think the best thing to do is when you see his name just don't read his nonsense, move on to the next poster, this way your not temped to respond and eventually the moron will go away.

  48. runnin rebel

    I doubt it but hey…

John Delcos if your out there, 86' this DC knucklehead since no one wants him here…

  49. Bob

dc is comic relief KEEP HIM

  50. runnin rebel

Bob and DC both have a high amount of all caps in their writing. They are the only ones in this blog who have very similar writing styles.

    Bob is DC

  51. Mr Met

    Hey JD,

The game is in 3 hours. Throw us a bone here!!! :)

  52. JK

rebel: I think that JD can't ban anyone as there is no registration system and that's the only way to keep out trolls. Some including me have suggested registration but I think that's a site-wide decision and not JD's. So the only option is to stop feeding the troll.

tomg: I don't think JD is a Yankee fan. He's too smart for that. ; )

IIRC from last year, he grew up a Cleveland Indians fan but I could be wrong.

  53. runnin rebel

    JK

Apparently persistence is not in your vocabulary.

    email address is required.

Terms of service explain what can and cannot be done (unless that is useless legal ease)

  54. runnin rebel

regardless of being a Stanks fan or not, people like DC undermine the intentions of the blog.

  55. runnin rebel

According to the Journal News Termination Policy:

"We may cancel or terminate your right to use the Site or any part of the Site at any time without notice. In the event of cancellation or termination, you are no longer authorized to access the part of the Site affected by such cancellation or termination. The restrictions imposed on you with respect to material downloaded from the Site, and the disclaimers and limitations of liabilities set forth in these Terms of Service, shall survive."

    Is this just BS?

  56. JK

rebel: The email address is as arbitrary as the username. You can put in any email address there—even a made up one—and it won't matter. JD can delete posts once they appear, and I've noticed on occasion him doing that. But technically I don't think he has the ability to bar someone from posting.

I think the terms of service are to insulate the website and its owners from any legal liabilities more than anything else.

  57. runnin rebel

well deleting posts is one way to skin this knucklehead.

  58. Keith

If you guys don't like what DC says then don't read him. He has the right to say what he wants. He isn't posting any of the following: "unlawful, threatening, abusive, libelous, defamatory, obscene, vulgar, pornographic, profane or indecent information of any kind, including without limitation any transmissions constituting or encouraging conduct that would constitute a criminal offense, give rise to civil liability or otherwise violate any local, state, national or international law."

The fact is, you don't like what he says, which is fine, so don't read him. And no one is twisting your arm to respond.

And let me save Rebel the trouble: I'm DC. (You can't see it, but I'm rolling my eyes.)

  59. runnin rebel

Actually abusive is subjective in this matter. So is libel. But more so abusive.

Unless your an attorney there is no point going there. Mainly it is up to John or whomever runs the site.

To be honest I really do not care one way or the other. I can deal with it.. but I will not ignore the kid..Sometimes there are some interesting things that come out. However most everyone else seems to get upset..or when someone responds..

  60. JK

Keith: That's the same advice tomg and I gave rebel so we agree on that. But as for Bob being DC, I think rebel nailed it. And it certainly wouldn't be the first time someone took on multiple IDs here.

  61. hello from Dc

    little metsies wah wah wah…...

Delcos is an outstanding human being….. Having to cover the Mets is above and beyond the duty of any great American….. How dare any of you call him a Yankee fan. He's a Cleveland fan….....

Keith I didn't know you were me, or am I you????? Actually I'm George W bush just wasting away my last hours before I get back to my ranch in Crawford forever….
