Mets in the Afternoon: Pre-game notebook

April
20

-Brian Schneider’s bruised right forearm has improved, but he’s out until tomorrow. “I’m hoping to play tomorrow,” he said. Schneider told Willie Randolph he could be available in an emergency.

-The Phillies put Jimmy Rollins on the DL. He was injured last week at Shea, but they resisted. Since they used him as a pinch-hitter yesterday, the 15-day clock starts today.

-Moises Alou went 3-for-3 in a minor league rehab game for Port St. Lucie. Randolph didn’t rule out him being ready by next weekend.

sucks that Schneider is out, he was a good influence for Pelfrey, calls an aggressive game too, which is something that definitely helps Pelfrey. Guess we'll see how Pelfrey does without him.

Seriously, why couldn't he leave Church at #2? Guy is hitting .344 for pete's sake, at least ride it out while he is hot and Castillo can't get it out of the infield on a fly.

Lets see how much Schneider actually helped pelfrey in his past starts wen he pitches tonight without him. I just hope Willie didn't just ruin our hot streak, if they lose tonight and we score less then four runs i'd go back with church as our number 2. He might do a lineup against LH with Church 2 and against RH with Castilla 2.

JM, I agree why move Church. The only thing I can think of is that he wants Church to protect Delgado.

with both endy and castillo in the lineup i think it makes sense.

otherwise the bottom of the order would be really weak.
    6. endy
    7. casanova
    8. castillo
    9. pelf

now perhaps if you wanted to put endy at 2, then maybe? but i think this is fine. castillo has hit a bit better the last week or so.

    Kyle,

At least w/ regard to Church and Castillo, it makes absolutely no sense to have Church in the 2-hole against lefties and Castillo in the 2-hole against righties. Church hits righties better, and Castillo hits lefties better! Not even close!

I think Alex has it right.
