once alou comes back, pagan will be back on the bench and clark will be gone. which means easley and the switch hitting pagan become righty options off the bench. those two along with endy, marlon and the backup catcher seem to me to be a bench that barring injury (or a serious drop off in production by pagan) isn’t going to change this year.

even if you don’t think alou will stay healthy for the rest of the season (a good assumption) i still don’t see how you can trade a reliever now (or soon, when wise is ready and this move needs to happen) for a spot that is already filled.

i suppose if they found someone who could be an upgrade over pagan and would be a righty 1B option then maybe that is a possibility (and you could send pagan down until/if alou got hurt again). but i’m not sure that’s gonna happen.

does anyone have any thoughts about the potentially good “too much pitching” problem that is developing.

when wise is ready to come back (though still a bit off) what will the mets do?

i don’t see anyway they can remove joe smith from the pen. and one of the options being discussed (at least on the boards) prior to last night’s game was to send figgy down, move sosa to the rotation, and put wise back in the pen.

but now that nelson has thrown 2 great starts in a row, and clearly he knows what he’s doing on the mound, not to mention i still think sosa is better when used for shorter periods of time, i don’t see this happening.

would they leave wise in AAA?

will they look to move someone, even though it’s so early?

thoughts?
