The Yankees must think we’re all stupid

I sure I hope I’m not the only one who believes this cursed David Ortiz jersey story is a load of bull.

How convenient this worker only showed up one day. How convenient a couple of other workers suddenly knew where to look. How convenient the site was pretty much untouched and easy for the diggers to locate the jersey, leaving plenty of room for the TV cameras.

Question: If you hate the Yankees as much as this guy claims, then why don’t you wait until the day before the new stadium opens before spilling the story? Now, that would be embarrassing.

Not buying this one for a second.

thanks JD, glad someone in the press sees through this one. how about a story on this?

  2. dave

    like, who cares?

  3. metsgrrl

they’re too busy awarding joba chamberlain a nobel peace prize for going home to be with his father. funny, when pedro feliciano was home with his daughter, all people did was criticize him and the mets for allowing him to go home.

  4. John Delcos

Metsgrrl: Yankees always get the free pass.-JD

  5. Andrew Vazzano

I wonder what intern had to go out and try and find an Ortiz jersey in NYC.

    Poor bastard.

  6. JM

Not defending the free pass the Yanks always get, but 26 World Series titles buys you some media capital I suppose. Still can’t stand them.

  7. Dan-Rutgers

I hate the yankees as much as anyone but criticizing someone for going home to go with his ailing father is just not right.

On another note..when does Willie start getting blamed for a lack of fire for this team??

  8. sloppy

Uh, mettsgrrl, The Mets didn’t let the world know Feliciano left until it was an issue. The Yanks were up front about it. Pretty cheap shot by you to pan a guy when his old man is in critical condition.

As for the jersey, they get free publicity and the Sox will fans are gonna pay a ton for it to raise money for the Jimmy fund. Delcos, I think the Mets and the dentist is too much for any human being. You need tomorrow off.

Here is something to consider: when Duaner comes back, Muniz will be sent down. When Wise comes back, who goes down? Can’t be anyone but Joe Smith, no? I think that would be unfortunate b/c he has so much more promise than Jorge Sosa, but they will keep him in the pen b/c 1) he makes big league money; and 2) he is the only long man.

  10. Scott from Pelham

JM: Sosa is not a problem. The way Willie uses him is.
Is Sosa A long man or 7th inning guy ? Sosa has already done both this year. Willie’s lack of a set role for him is the real problem.

  11. Scott from Pelham

John you are right the whole thing stinks. I mean working at the new stadium is a plum union job. With money that good I really do not think it would matter what team the guy roots for. I bet if you ask the guys working at the new stadium more than a few are Met fans and the same at Citi Field more than a few are Yankee fans. For those guys a good job is what it is all about.
Mets / Yanks is all secondary.

  12. Brad

It irks me the Carlos Muniz will be sent down. I like him a lot. I understand Jorge Sosa needs to be up here and all due to his ability to go a lot of innings, but to put it plain and simple, Jorge Sosa STINKS. He had a flash of brilliance last year, and since then has shown nothing but the inability to put guys away. I wish they could have the Darren Oliver/Chad Bradford performance of 2006 every year. It was such a commodity that we didn’t realize at the time. Hopefully, though, Duaner can regain some of his 2006 form.

We will see Muniz again this year. I promise it.

  13. JM

    Scott from Pelham,

I don’t love Willie’s bullpen management either, but do you really think Willie is the reason why a guy who throws 1 pitch for strikes, who has a career BB/9 of more than 4, and who has allowed lefties to slug more than .500 off him the last 3 seasons can’t get it done? I don’t think Willie is the right manager for this team, but he ain’t what’s wrong w/ Jorge Sosa.

  14. JM

    Brad,

    You said it, Sosa stinks.

  15. metsfan

well guess what Delcos…you’re the one writing about this story on your blog, so yeah, I guess the Yankees must think we’re all stupid, and maybe some of us are. Why do you care about this? Why should any of us care about this? Isn’t this a Mets blog?

  16. sloppy

If you didn’t care metsfan, why did you respond???? Hey, its only 11 games, relax…......

  17. JK

Why would the Yankees pull a prank like this? It gives the Red Sox as much publicity as it gives the new stadium. They had workers breaking up concrete for four hours looking for the jersey. So it doesn’t seem like they knew exactly where it was. I don’t think they concocted it. I think a Red Sox fan really planted it in there.

  18. NYMetsGrrl94

scott from pelham: you are right about the lack of set bullpen roles. in 2006 everybody seemed to have a job and they all were able to do that job. now its kinda like “show didn’t pitch yesterday so lets put him in for the lefties” or the same thing with feliciano. i know i should stop living in the past but it is easier to work when you know what your job is, right?

  19. sloppy

    NYMETSGRRL94:

I went to your web site. Very nice. Did you do it yourself? If you are as young as your site says you are you are too young be living in the past.
The best Met bullpen was before your time in 86 when we had a lefty closer and a righty closer (Orosco and McDowell).

  20. NYMetsGrrl94

sloppy: thanks. and yes i did it myself (with blogger, of course) when i was tired of reading everybody else’s opinion and not being able to get my own out there. i wish i was around to have seen the 86 team because i hear all about them from my parents

  21. sloppy

Well NYMetsgrrl94 I will check your site everyday, and be patient You’ll have your own 86 team some day. I’m afraid it’s just not going to be this year.

  22. sloppy

Why are we off tonite, other than Delcos needed to get drilled? Watching the Jays/O’s. anybody been to Camden Yards at Oriole Park? The first of the retro parks I believe. Was sold out for years, but now its empty….

  23. Andrew Vazzano

I hate Mondays off. Though I would not want the Mets to have to deal with what the Yanks are going through with 20 straight days of baseball.

I guess it works out though, since I have to write a paper tonight anyway.

  24. Dan Gurney

The great Frank Zappa used to say “Hydrogen isn’t the most common element in the universe. Stupidity is.” So the Yankees may be right. Both they and the Mets are getting us to subsidize their unnecessary ballparks that will raise ticket prices and lower available seats.
