In a season of many firsts, Johan Santana makes his Shea debut as a Met.
No-hitter? He hits a homer?
Santana always says: “I’m not going to do anything crazy.”
But, I wonder if he allows himself such thoughts.

Of course he has those thoughts – you were a pitcher once, didn’t you always think that way?
Most athletes do.
Even women golfers who aren’t happy to just beat their opponents, they want to ‘stomp on them’.
Somehow the ‘magic’ is coming back to Shea this week with the winnning of these past three games. The clubhouse must be a much more relaxed place, too.
Frankly I’m a bit tired of the know-it-all fans, who’ve never played who are criticizing every move by the Mets Organization. Guys, just stop and take a look at the players and the game – it’s a great thing.
As for Santana, he’s shown that he knows what to do, when to do it and how to do it well. I think we will see good things from him today.
I expect that Santana will be prepared
expectations thwarted.
