Currently: It’s chilly and wet.
Forecast: It stinks.
Quote: From the security guard: “I hope they get this in.’’
Quote: From the lady in the press room that gave me coffee: “They know it’s going to rain. They should call it now.’’
My hope: Just make a decision … before the NCAA games.

JD,
As I understand it, and please correct me if I’m wrong, the umpires and MLB decide whether to call the game, not the home team. Rain is supposed to let up by about 6 or 7 pm, which would give them enough time to get the game in. Question is whether the field will be game-ready, but I’d be surprised if they didn’t do everything they could to get the game in this evening, being that they’ve already got 1 to makeup.
JM – FYI – Today the Mets vs. Atlanta at 3:30PM on FOX (weather permitting)
Annie,
I am not sure what you meant by your post. ??? I know first pitch is scheduled for 3:55.
good luck JD> But you know today FOX rules…. IF they had the NCAA’s the game would be called already…..
call me strange but after the Rebels got schooled by Kansas I really do not care about that tournament anymore. Baseball came JIT to replace my frustrations.
I am glad Duke lost.
JM—I think it’s the broadcast that starts at 3.30pm and first pitch is 3.55.
As for rain-outs, I think the home team has jurisdiction to call a game before the game starts. Once the game starts it’s in the hands of the umps.
http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/official_info/official_rules/start_end_4.jsp
“Unless the home club shall have given previous notice that the game has been postponed or will be delayed in starting, the umpire, or umpires, shall enter the playing field five minutes before the hour set for the game to begin and proceed directly to home base where they shall be met by the managers of the opposing teams. ... yada-yada …”
”(d) As soon as the home team’s batting order is handed to the umpire-in-chief the umpires are in charge of the playing field and from that moment they shall have sole authority to determine when a game shall be called, suspended or resumed on account of weather or the condition of the playing field.”
RG,
Yes, first pitch is at 3:55, that is exactly what I said. But thank you for providing the relevant rule.
How is the press room coffee at Turner Field, anyway?
Tiffany: Not that great. A couple of sips and I traded it in for an iced tea.-JD
