hey dave thanks!!!! You are right too that this team has had attitude problems.. But you can't reverse last year's sleepy hollow attitude by making every game against the NL Est as the end of the world either. And don't tell Pelfrey the game is important. He can't stand the heat in spring training.....

In most sports winning within your division is a good thing. It matters more. If you want to win you should win in your neighborhood.

As JD pointed out our record was not good last year. We need to do better.

As Sloppy says it is not the end of the world and it is a long season, but this team had an attitude problem and as with most things it is a good thing to set the bar high.

"But it's also foolish to write it off and say…we'll get them next time. How do you know they will?"

Is it foolish to think this way in anticipation of a game/series? Yes. Is it foolish to do it following a loss. No.

Ok, cliche time.

Baseball is a very long season folks. Football it is not. There is a lot of losing and failure that goes on over the course of a baseball season. To agonize over either would be detrimental to your health.

Every team in the majors will in most cases lose at least 60 games on average. Some considerably more and some maybe a few less. Everyone will lose games...that's inevitable.
But a loss against the Braves on April 4 counts exactly the same as a loss to them in August or September. Does it become more acceptable to lose in April than in August?
No one is suggesting the world will stop rotating on its axis if the Mets lose 2 of 3 or even all three.
But it's also foolish to write it off and say...we'll get them next time. How do you know they will?

I guess Joe D you must go insane with all the losing in baseball. You must replay those old Dolphins every single nite...... Do you not sleep when your team loses 60-70-80 times a year????? If they get a swept are you going to call for an overhaul of the team?

Joe D
You are totally right! It's not that the Mets fan truly believes losing a series to the Braves ( no matter when) doesn't matter, but rather it's the rationalization already in place in case they lose.

Joe D. The Mets fell apart because they couldn't beat the Marlins or the Nationals and couldn't win a game against the Phills at the end. If they lose a series it's not going to kill the team. And I happen to think attitudes like yours are ones that send fans into an unnecessary panic.

I really dont understand it when fans say if we lose a series it dont mean a thing. You would think after losing the division by one game they would see thing more coherently. Losing never is and never should be acceptable.

P.S. - Hey JD, please dont forget to add me.

The Mets lost last year because they couldn't beat the Phillies and they blew up the last 6 games against Florida and Washington. If they lose this series against the Braves it doesn't mean a thing.

I agree with David Wright. They need to take care of business within the division.

They went to Atlanta last year won the first game and lost the last two. So is that why they lost the division? They are making a big mistake if they are making a big deal out of this weekend. No matter when they hit a slump, now, next month, whenever, the ghost of the collapse is coming back. That will be the test. Not whether they win a couple games or three this weekend.
