Duque’s night

Thanks for the Orlando Hernandez update. He gave up two runs on three hits in five innings.
He previously complained about his location, but had one walk and six strikeouts.
Hernandez said: “I didn’t feel the adrenalin tonight. I was pumped for the Baltimore start and have to get back to that. I am still adjusting to my old delivery.”
Hernandez estimates two or three more rehab starts.

Three more rehab starts for what: pitching in Shea or a trip to the 60 day DL???
I hope that didn’t sound too flip or cruel but I couldn’t resist. I have a lot of respect for Hernandez, both as a pitcher and someone who grew up in a dictatorship like Cuba. I hope he makes a great comeback. But you have to consider anything you get out of him as a bonus. Another athlete you wonder what would he have done if he had good health.
El Duque could actually work out for us. He had one bad inning, gave up the 2 runs, after it, he got it back together again. Obviously its against A ballers, but whatever, if El Duque can do what he wants to do out there, he can get hitters out. It’s just a matter of being physically able to. I say take it slow, like they are, 3 more starts down there, taking it easy, and he may actually be able to give us something down the road. Pelfrey needs to step up, but if either he doesn’t, or Pedro comes back a lot later then “expected”, we’re going to need someone else to step in. It’d be pretty nice and convenient if El Duque could be that guy.
