Letsgo… what are you talking about? I didn’t say I had any expectations of Sanchez at all. But you do think he’ll be back eventually, no? And when he comes back, someone has to get dropped. My point was that if sloppy is right and Wise turns into a pumpkin, then he’ll be the first one out of here when Sanchez is ready.

Everyone needs to get a grip this morning.

Well, if Wise keeps stinking it up, he’ll be the first one out the door when Sanchez is ready. I think he has some good stuff, but he could be this year’s Burgos/Julio/Rojas. Guys with good stuff but give up massive homers.

Vargas would fit right in… former Expo!

But seriously, I’ve always liked his stuff. He would benefit from Peterson and Shea Stadium.

Thanks for support on Vargas, but I stole it from Keith. Keith called for Vargas the second he was released. You know how much faith I have in Pelfrey? I have as much faith in him as I would have if they picked up Lawrence again. By the way Lawrence is free. Don’t tell Minaya…...

As for Wise, we needed to use 4 guys opening day because he sucked, and he followed up with yesterday. Santana’s HR was given up with the score 6-0. Big difference. And didn’t Wise throw the same pitch to Andino right before the HR? How many batting practice balls you gonna give a guy?

They have to sign Vargas or Jeff Weaver. Like JD said, there is no way they can predict what they’ll get from Pedro/Duque. They need a guy who can come in and give them innings. Sosa looks good coming out of the pen, he needs to stay there. Any of the guys in the minors would have been fine as 5th/spot starters, but if we need a 4th starter, I would like them to go after Vargas or Weaver.

I am curious to see if Brian Schneider will end up as a positive influence on Pelfrey, he certainly has extensive experience in working with young pitchers. So frustrating to watch a guy with potential let his head get in the way.

And boy, seems a little early to throw Wise under the bus. He left a changeup up in the zone after striking out 2 guys, didn’t Santana give up a dinger the same way yesterday?

I agree with Sloppy about picking up Claudio Vargas as a number five starter and that Pelfrey has to step up and stop looking over his shoulder if he wants to make it in the big leagues. They don’t call it “The Show” for nothing. Time to rid himself of his stage fright and confidence issues.

Where is Keith when we need him to be GM? We need to get that Claudio Vargas today. Don’t look behind you big Pelfrey because you’re the guy now. I know pressure doesn’t do much for you but your job now is to replace Pedro Martinez for a couple months. Watch T-shirt guy if they call him up. He has nothing but guts. If you learn something from his mental outlook you’ll be much better off.

Last year the other team in NYC had too many hammy problems and made a very smart move by ridding themselves of their head trainer and going with a new guy and a new methodology. Mets should take the same approach. Far too many hammy problems in this organization the last couple seasons.
One question: Is Feliciano not on the team? I’d rather see him against a righty than Matt Wise against anybody. Two days of him was enough to know that Minaya has successfully replaced Mota with someobody worse.

-Pedro Martinez will go to NY tomorrow for a MRI.

-Pitching coach Rick Peterson said it’s too soon to name a fallback plan, but it was obvious from talking with him that Martinez will miss some time.

-Jorge Sosa pitched 2 2/3 innings tonight, but said he could work tomorrow to a batter or two. Sosa could be an option, but Willie Randolph also mentioned Nelson Figueroa.

-Quote: ``We’re being tested early,’’ said reliever Billy Wagner.

-The Mets had their chances after falling behind 4-0. They left 12 runners on base.-JD

a least Pedro can miss a start without disrupting the team, since they already have the 5 man rotation set up. Just skip his turn, and let the other guys stay on normal rest.

My guess? 2 months, minimum.

JD, personally, it’s not always about the hit. For example, his at bat against the LH earlier in the game when he drew a walk was fantastic. That was a great at bat.
