Tatis gone?

March
30

Fernando Tatis is nowhere to be found right now. There’s no locker for him, either.

Thank goodness. Minaya listened to saner heads, like us!!!!! (if your hint is right)

  2. stinky stewart

If Tatis is gone, then it makes the Gotay dismissal even more bizarre.

  3. Dan Gurney

Just looking at Tatis's statistics..did he have a locker next to Mark McGwire in 1999?

actually stinky if Clark makes the team it makes the Gotay dismissal more understandable. With Alou out and Church showing he is a platoon player you can easily make the case that you really need another outfielder who bats righty. Easley/ Tatis may have outfielder gloves but despite their verstility, they ain't outfielders.

Didn't Gotay play in the OF once or twice last year? I dunno I really am annoyed that they just let him go like that. The guy was a good hitter, and would have been a valuable fill in off the bench.

Sloppy: You make a good point about the fact that Tatis and Easley are not OF's. I think that's something that Randolph sometimes fails to realize. He can be absurd in this area actually. Like the time he just told reporters that Eli Marrero might get some time at 3B before talking to him…not surprsingly Marrero was shocked because he said he'd never even played the position.

I mean yeah these guys are pros so technically they should know how to play all the positions, but realistically, that's such a stupid way to think about it.

After watching Schoenesweis yesterday I am truly convinced that he is a dog. Omar has to find a way to get rid of him during the season and replace that spot. Schoenesweis did exactly yesterday what he did for most of last season, walk people and than forced to throw strikes and get hit, giving up runs. I also had mentioned that the new El Duke wind up would not work after seeing El Duke throw a 80 mile an hour fastball. It's ironic he went back to the high leg kick. El Duke will be the fifth starter but don't expect him to last long during the season before he will go on the DL.

    !

It's like the Twilight Zone in here. Slop, you and I are on the same page this week! While I would have prefered we kept Gotay, if they're keeping Clark then it's understandable.

My question is why the Mets weren't in on Jorge Cantu this past off season.

I guess all the guys who raved about all the benefits Tatis would provide will talk about what a bum and rotten person he is now. Maybe he made the team.. You know he's so versatile that he may be able to change in a telepgone booth like Superman did, except there aren't any more telephone booths…..

Not going to miss Tatis. And if they need a body later on, how hard is it to find a career minor leaguer or washed up scrub like him?

The bench should be more solid with 2 of Pagan, Clark and Chavez on it (whichever 2 aren't starting) to cover the OF, with Easley and Anderson for IF duty. Although you better hope Wright never needs a day off, since there isn't another 3B on the team. Easley by default I guess.

When ALou comes back, the better of Clark and Pagan stays (Pagan at least has an option left), and the OF will be fine.

Guess the only question left is, what happens to the 5th spot in the rotation?

Oh, and if Omar can womehow turn Schoe into Matt Murton (Schoe does throw with his left hand!), then he will be elevated to god status.

Schoe + a lower line prospect (maybe a Carp level guy)?

I know, but at least I can dream!

    ...stick? stickguy?

you comfortable with Marlon Anderson playing 2B/3B/SS?
He is a PH/LF who can stand over near 1B and reasonably fill in for Delgado. Calling him an IF is just scary… you know this team better than that.

  12. Nate W.

btw, Tatis played for New Orleans last year, and with his short camp I cant really see anyone else giving him a job. (maybe SF) so he will likely see some time with the club at some point.

ex: Alou comes back and Pagan has turned around his slump so they DFA Clark and he leaves. Two weeks later Alou gets hurt again and the Mets need another righty bat. Where did we send Tatis?

  13. hollywoodjosh

Are you trying to depress us Nate? Minaya makes one good move by cutting a total loser and you tell us he's coming back? Thanks guy…..

  14. Nate W.

...explain how Clark is any less of a 'loser'?

They are the same player (couple good steroid induced years, but no longer better than AAA) except Tatis can play IF which the roster lacks, and has more pop at this stage of his career than Clark probably ever had.

Neither one of them should be anywhere near this roster, but Clark?!

  15. sloppy

Nate… Brady Clark has made major league teams the last few years. He may not be good, but Tatis couldn't even make a team in 3 of the l;ast 4 years. That means teams like Kansas City, Pittsburgh, Tampa, Washington, wouldn't even give him a chance to pinch hit one time. Plus when he comes to bat, metsfan and jk can sing the brady bunch song and go and hug minaya for being so perfect…....

  16. stick

Nate, I think that Anderson is really more of a pure PH at this point. Problem is, Easley is getting to be the same thing.

But by default, those are our back up IFs.

I would be more comfortable if the 5th OF (Clark in this case) could also play 1B and 3B somewhat realistically. And it wouldn't hurt if Easley was better equipped to play MI.

I guess we need to convert the 5th OF into a super Joe type guy, but preferably one that can hit!

I thought Clark hit 260/270 recently?

That is a decent avg, esp if you are a role player.

Mets Poll
The perjury charges are adding up for Barry Bonds. Barring a miracle, all indications are he used steroids. Assuming this plays out where he's guilty, I believe Selig should place an asterisk to Bonds' HR totals. Agree or disagree?
