Joe Smith just came out of Willie Ramdolph. It was more of a smirk than a smile.
He made the team as the seventh reliever, beating out Brian Stokes, Ricardo Rincon and Nelson Figueroa.
“He told me that they believe in me,” Smith said.
Orlando Hernandez is in Randolph’s office now.

See comment under Tatis posting…... I got one right. I predicted Smith was going to make the team. Its just too bad he's not replacing Schoenesweis.
He surpasses Dick Smith but remains behind Charlie Smith on the list of all-time Smiths on the Mets.
Congrats JD for beating metsblog to the news!
Metsblog does not break news. They just take info from every newspapers blog and other articles around the country.
"Orlando Hernandez is in Randolph’s office now."
Must be some discussion!!!!! Are they going after each other. It would be like Rick Flair and another old time wrestler trying to act like they're 30 something….
this has made my day!
JD, might want to reword your post. It looks like you were waying Willie just gave birth (and the other interpretation doesn't fit your guidelines!)
Anyway, not sure I like this, but we whall see.
Part of my concern is, which of the guys he beat out wil lgo to AAA? I just worry about depth if he flames out, or someone gets hurt.
But still, has to be better than seeing stokes! ALthough I would have been happier if they had kept Register, and sent SMith to AAA
kind of small but there is an "m" in Randolph instead of an "n"
stick, agree. Concern is that it reduces any depth they have in BP now that register and stokes are gone (unless stokes does not get picked up). Also hope that Smith's arm does not fall off which seemed to be aprt of the problem last yr.
It once again also shows that Willie likes guys in BP who have different ways of getting people out.
Slop, keep hoping that Show goes. But I don't see it happening.
Do these moves make the crowd that wants more youth happy?
scoop: as far as depth goes maybe one of the college kids they drafted last year will be ready by mid-season. Also Omar has a little better flexibility this year. If someone he likes hits the waiver wire he could send Smith down since he has options and pick the guy up.
I wish they could trade Show but you might just need that extra lefty since they face the Phillies so many times.
kind of surprised he made the team.
I thought he could use some time in AAA to improve.
If he can keep the ball down he is devastating.
