Sloppy praise Phillips all you want, but the bottom line is Bobby V was a great manager. Phillips also ran Bobby V out of town for Art to save his own job.
If Willie were half as good, the Mets would have made the post season last year and may have already been in a World Series.
Blame Omar all you want but many were at fault for the Mets collapse. Somehow you continue not to see this. A good manager would have found a way to win a few more games.

Sloppy: I agree with most of Omar's moves. I disagree with some. He isn't teflon for goodness sakes! Omar has made moves which can be criticized.

Well sloppy, to be fair, Sosa is pretty young, relative to the rest of the team. So you still would be favoring a youngster, heh.

Steve (the original) You're gonna upset the guys for saying Minaya did something wrong! Seriously, I agree with you on both counts, except I'd have had Sosa make a couple starts. Sosa/Figeroa same concept. Of course Scoop thinks I'm lying because he says I only want young guys to make the team.

I'm glad Clark made it over Tatis. I disagree with Pelfrey being named the #5 starter. The kid has no confidence whatsoever, was rushed to the bigs. He needs a full season in AAA and more importantly, a season in which he dominates AAA. Figueroa should have made this team as the temporary #5 until El Duque was ready. It's really a shame how they handle this kid.

Re Duquette: I agree about disagreeing with my Duquette comments Keith. I only said it because that Metsfan is a mindless follower and I will never forgive Minaya for not doing anything about the pen during the season last year. But he thinks we won it all last year so I don't even know why I wrote that speech.
Scoopcoop: The sad thing about fans like you is that you think that they're my team so they are all great blah blah blah and the result is every other day the world hears 30,000 people in Shea stadium booing because these guys ain't perfect. so its really lousy fair weather fans who shouldn't watch because your expectations cannot possibly be met. When the mets win I get a lot more pleasure than you possibly could get, because you believe they have to win, and I believe they can win. And when they lose you must be shattered beyond belief that the perfect boys could let you down. And scoop some day when you learn comprehend what you are reading you will come to realize that I do not judge moves based on age, but rather on what it does to make a team a little bit better or a lit bit worse.... But you are too blinded by your pied piper to comprehend jusdgement like that. I tried to explain that to you in antoher post but hey, I guess Omar told you otherwise or something.

Lets trade for Fred Lewis so he can be the LH part of a Lewis & Clark platoon in LF. This way, at least I would get some amusement out of the position, even if we don't get production.

sloppy, I could say your increasing negativity is staggering but it is impossible to increase to a level that is more than what you are already at.

I don't think you should watch this sad excuse of a team. You might become suicidal by the 3rd game.

And I find it interesting that a guy who is so in to the young player would even defend Duquette at all. He was Jeff Wilpon's lacky who traded away one of the best prospects the Mets have had in the past 10yrs.

"You can knock duquette and poke fun at him, but at least when he smelled first place he tried to make the team better."

Gotta disagree here slop. As a GM you need to know when you have a real shot, and when you don't. The Mets did not have a shot at going far even if they made the playoffs. We would have all been better off if they had stood pat.

Hey sloppy: How do you really feel about Omar? Don't be so timid next time you analyze him!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll agree with you about Phillips however. He had a real bad finish but he brought us out of the Dallas Green disaster and brought in stars to get us to the WS. He made the big move for Piazza. And he didn't trade away Wright or Reyes or Kazmir. I remember people screaming he should get Soriano for Reyes. Even Stevie had his limits......

Thats right scoop I never like a move unless they keep young players. Your increasing level of illiteracy is staggering. That's why I was against putting Pelfrey in the rotation scoopcoop because he's so much older thasn Sosa and El Duque, right scoop. And that's why I wrote approvingly today of keeping Clark because he's so freaking young, right scoop?

Metsfan: You are not worth reponding to becuase you have a thought process that thinks that if you think Omar and his team of warriors is not perfect you are a lesser person than you are. However, once again your premise is wrong and insulting. You ask why I "hate" Minaya so much. I don't actually hate him at all, I actually find him quite entertaining and interesting to listen to when he's on a game. However, i think he is a poor excuse for a GM. he did a lousy job with Montral. Unlike successful small market GMS who have a plan of getting rid of high priced guys to keep a flow of talent rolling to stay competitive, he kept getting rid of the talent and got little if any talented kids in return as is evident by the fact that he left the expos/Nationals with a minor league system bereft of talent. When he came to the Mets it seemed he was this superstar recruiting stars, but the fact was he he got guys who were rejected by the Red Sox and Yankees for the most part. The notable exception was Wagner. He claimed when he came here that the team was going to gewt younger, but just like he did with Montreal he has created a farm bereft of talent. We have a team that is excellent on paper if we have ZERO injuries. And we don't have zero injuries and we won't, It doesn't happen. Excpet for Reyes and Wright he has built a team that has no fire, no passion, and while it doesn't matter in a runaway, it sure mattered ina close race. he cost the team the pennant last year by doing nothing to help the pen. He made no moves the entire year on a bullpen that started with 5 decent guys and became a 4 man pen when Smith became an A ball pitcher.
You can knock duquette and poke fun at him, but at least when he smelled first place he tried to make the team better. His results were obviously very flawed but at least he tried. As for Steve Phillips, when Minaya gets his team to thew World Series then maybe you can compare the tweo, but until then Phillips was one of the very few GMS to get this team to the World Series. He brought in Piazza and didn't do it contingent on singing a deal ahead of time. He brought in Leither, he brought in Hampton over the protests of most Met fans who thought Cedeno was the next Lou Brock. Even many of his bad moves like Alomnar were universally praised when made. So come back to me Omar lackey when he (Omar from Pelham or whatever he's changing his name to) has the Mets in the World Series.

I am very surprised at this.

I just do not think Pelf is ready at this time to pitch at Shea. But since he is here, I hope they keep him up. There is no reason to send him down in 2 weeks or whatever when Hernandez gets back.

If you want to develop him by throwing him in the water then throw him in and let him learn to swim. Otherwise send him to AAA and find some other way to hold the fort until Duque is back.

sloppy almost never has anything positive to say about the Mets unless they make a decision to keep younger players that he believes are ready to play in MLs.

That is just the way it is. Don't expect him to be happy. He is sloppy.

We all get frustrated w/the state of the team from time to time. However I could not be in a continuos state of glass is half empty (or maybe completely empty) all the time.

and sloppy, why do you hate Omar so much? just because he's the GM? Do you hate every GM or do you want STeve Phillips back? How about Jim Duquette, i bet he's your favorite. Also, your expectation that Omar is going to tell the fans everything, just tell them the truth about everything, run the organization like an open book, is just stupid. Sorry, its stupid. If you expect that, you not only know nothing about baseball, you know nothing about business.

so sloppy, now you're going to agree with hollywoodjosh that having Pelfrey on the team negates the Santana acquisition? Really? because that is one pathetic point of view. I don't know where you people get off thinking i'm an apologist because of what i just said. I made that point that having Santana helps. are you really going to refute that? ????????

The idea that Pelfrey will be "totally ruined" if he pitches well and is then sent down to make room for a healthy El Duque is absurd and unsupportable.

If anything, his confidence would be boosted by it.

Yes, JK go with the guy whose confidence is in the toilet so you can screw up his mind with two possibilities: 1, He pitches good and you send him down when El Duque is readsy
2. He pitches lousy and gets sent down.... Either way your oh i mean the Minaya strategy is to help totally ruin this kid. Glad you are in favor of that. You know there's one reason the Nats and now the Mets have no minor league system to speak of. Its called Minaya.

Why do guys post when al;l theyare capable of doing is repeating the company line. Its not Groundhog day. Bill Murray did that/done that.

Do people really think young players like Gotay, Milledge, Pelfrey, and Smith won't continue to improve?

Citing past performance for these kids, while certainly significant, doesn't mean it's written in stone that Pelfrey or whoever won't realize their potential.
