On Tap Today: The boys are in Memphis

They tell me some of the best BBQ is in Memphis. That’s where the Mets are today for the Civil Rights game against the Chicago White Sox.

John Maine goes this afternoon. He’s had the best spring of any Mets’ pitcher. Not really close, either.

Today they’ll get enough to where they’ll probably have enough to complete their 25-man roster. The following issues remain:

-The final roster spot. Brady Clark or Fernando Tatis.

-The seventh reliever spot between Joe Smith, Brian Stokes and Nelson Figueroa.

-Whether or not to DL Ramon Castro.

Hi John – Here's a link to the Civil Rights Game today if anyone is interested.

Let us know how the BBQ is, John. I like your food reviews, such as the one you did last year on fried twinkies. Still haven't come across a place that sells them in NYC or would have tried one by now.

As for Clark-Tatis, I don't know why they think Tatis can still hit ML pitching. Doing it last year at NO is not the same. Clark doesn't wow your socks off, but at least he's proven he can hit ML lefties. If they put Tatis on the roster, I wouldn't be surprised to see them send him back down to NO by May for lack of hitting. By then, Clark will probably be gone.

Hey Annie, the game is on ESPN. So you can watch it live.

Did you go on the tour of the Civil Rights Museum with the team yeaterday?? If so, I'd like to read your comments about it.

    As for your questions:
    1. I hope its Clark. At least he's faced big league pitchers the last couple years.
    2. None of them earned the spot, and I would pick Smith because I saw him pitch good for a pretty long stretch last year. I'm sure he's not coming North because he has options.
    3. If Castro can't play they better DL him. If its an issue then this org is more screwed up then I even I believe it is.

    1) Clark
    2) Smith has the best stuff, but he allows too many walks and hits. Not a huge fan of Stokes just yet. I'd honestly let Figueroa try it for a bit and see what he does.
    3) Yes, Castro should start on the dl and we go with Casanova who has a nice bat.

  6. RG

    Clark.
    Figgy.
    DL Castro.

Smith has good stuff but I think he needs more work at AAA, like Pelf.

    JD—goin' to Graceland?

Try the Pig on Beale Street. Fantastic Sauce, and I live in Texas, so I know me some BBQ!

Oh boy all the old memories from last year are returning – I think the fried twinkies were in Philly – Sloppy, you were there weren't you?

Golfing buddy of mine used to live in Memphis, moved to Bandon Dunes in Oregon, still has BBQ shipped to him there from some place in Memphis.

I posted the link above for the Civil Rights game – some where on that site is a link for the December press conference with Omar, Willie, Ozzie and Ken Miller among others – it's about 20-30 minutes and was very interesting.

Now you've got me humming the Paul Simon version of "Graceland"..........

I'm posting from CT – home of the original Pizza Place – Pepe's on Wooster Square in New Haven.

    1) Brady Clark… he looked better this spring, and his one real position (corner outfield) is more useful that Fernando Tatis' one real position (third base)

    2) Nelson Figueroa… none of the three really distinguished themselves, but they're in the running for a spot that should only exist for a few weeks (until Duaner Sanchez is ready to go). No sense in jerking around Joe Smith (or Brian Stokes)

    3) Stick Castro on the DL and be done with it. I'd rather have a healthy Raul Casanova than Ramon Castro when he's afraid to run all-out.

Annie: The fired twinkies were in Cincy I think! Good memory. The only thing that got fried in Philly were, unfortunately, the Mets…..
