Easley has 3B, 2B, and SS covered. So they don’t absolutely need Tatis. Brady could still make the club instead.

Murton gives them someone who could play in LF until Alou gets back and then slide into the 4th OF role when he returns, spelling Church against tough lefties.

Plus, he’s still only 25. He would form a nice platoon with FMart next year in LF, or, if the team thinks FMart is ready and they’re not happy with Church, then they can just let Church walk.

The Cubbies shouldn’t expect much back for him since everyone knows he is buried on that team.

Keith, the old saying You can never have enough pitching is very true. I’d rather the Mets be short once in awhile with the bats than to be short w/the pitching.

Since they can’t get a more quality guy w/o giving up some BP, I don’t see why they should do it now. If Alou doesn’t come back or there are some other guys who don’t perform, then you can think about it.

Right now, it is too early to get so concerned about getting a better 25 guy on the squad that they should trade away pitching.

Plus, going back to the versatility issue, they have played him at multiple positions. And he has played every game since he got here and has gotten alot more at bats than Clark (the other logical guy).

It certainly seems like he is getting the biggest audition.

Also, it’s too soon to bring out the hankies for Gotay. He may have already cleared waivers. We’ll know soon. If he does, they should send him to NO and have him play a little at short. I’m sure there will be an injury or two among Easley, Anderson, and Chavez so Gotay should get his chances.

He got caught in a numbers crunch this year, and hopefully they can find a way to utilize him better next year. With this being Easley’s last year, there probably will be room.

Trading a BP arm for a RH bat on the bench given that arms always gets hurt does not seem like a prudent idea. and given last yrs BP debacle, I would not want to trade away any picthing at this point.

Inge is not available b/c Granderson is hurt. johnson has a bad back. clark has not shown much it would appear since he does not seem to be the option they are taking. I’m sure the others were looked at and the price (probably pitching was too high).

Omar has nothing to trade. that is why he has to use Tatis. blame his no depth farm.

As I said before, this doesn’t prove anything either way. Useful players clear waivers all the time for various reasons.

Matt Murton, Marcus Thames, Brandon Inge, they could have had Reed Johnson, Brady Clark, they could have had Justin Huber, but Kevin Towers got him for a PTBNL….

There are plenty of options, guys like Murton and Huber who could be had for a bullpen arm, which we have an abundance of.

And since we value guys who can pull the Jose Oquendo, Inge would be perfect. He can play everywhere, hits RH, and can even catch, freeing up Castro to PH. He wouldn’t cost much either because he has a large salary.

Of course if he clears waivers, what does that say about his abilities?

I just don’t understand why it is valuable to be able to play multiple positions just because. To me this is a worthless attribute unless you can actually field the position.

The entire point on Gotay is that a team with a short list of young position players waived a former top prospect who had a good season last year. They’re seemingly replacing him with a guy who has barely played in the bigs the last few seasons.

Guys like Tatis are a dime a dozen. I’m sure Tony Batista is available. Someone like Gotay actually have some upside potential.

But he is RH. And to placate you, I was suggesting he play RF due to your disdain of Church. I don’t expect Tatis to play much at all. But if they needed a 2 RH pinch hitters in a game, they would have two w/him on the team. He is/might be the 25th guy. The Mets will not sink or swim w/him on the roster. Nor would they sink or swim w/Gotay.

But Willie does want his bench guys to be able to play several positions and he wants a couple guys to hit from the right and a couple from the left. It is far from the best situation. It would be great if they could get xman or Millar or Inge, etc. etc.

If you think Gotay could hit RH better than Tatis, then that is your opinion. If you think he can play multiple positions, that is your opinion. But it would appear your opinion is not shared by the team nor just about anybody in BB since Omar could not trade Gotay.
