I'm sure you didn't see Koufax. And I'm sure you don't have a clue, just as I don't have a clue as to what his problem were. At same stage of career, OP is way ahead of where Koufax was. Criticizing players scoop is fine. I love it. It makes this place fun. ICommenting regularly on their 2 cent brain or similar is different. I never commented on Church's mental capacity as you have done regularly about OP. Yes he (OP) has problems with his emotions. Does that make him a 2 cent brain, hardly... It makes him an emotional guy who needs to work on something. It doesn't make him ignorant as you regularly imply.

OP has great stuff. See I said something good about him.

But he is not Johan Santana or Pedro. He has not figured out how to control his emotions, how to keep his head in the game. And he loses his arm slot from time to time.

Koufax's issues were entirely mechanics.

OP has mechanics and brain issues.

Sloppy, if you can't recognize that OP has concentration issues you and I are not watching the same guy. I did not watch today's game so maybe that was not the case today, but you have to say that he does have head issues.

I criticize all players from time to time. My issue w/folks like yourself is that you seem to only criticize a guy if you don't like the trade or FA signing that brought them here.

Koufax wasn't any good until his 7th season in the bigs... I guess he had a 2 cent brain because it took him so long to figure it out.

Perez had no speed from the first inning on . So was he just working on control, did he have nothing or did he have a sore arm? He was in mid 80's. It had nothing to do with a 2 cent brain as one blogger likes to say about him. How come its OK to bad mouth OP but not Church?????

Maddening! OP is so close. Yet so far.

JM: Nice line re Koufax and Redman.

I guess OP could regress (horrors!) or maybe Jacket can keep him right where he is. Is Jekyll-Hyde Ollie worth $12M per year? If he can get himself together he'd be worth way more than $12M per.

Well, just have to wait and see how the year plays out. Maybe a little Pedro and Johan will rub off on him.

Why are they playing in that slop? Do the umps think the game counts?

Those HR's would have left Yellowstone. Wind was irrelevant.

JD, or anyone.

Don't the Indians have like 99 HRs this spring? Does the wind blow like crazy out up there?

Just trying to hope that Perez's troubles are wind related.

JD, haven't all of OP's poor performances this ST happened on the road?

For certain though, he may never reach his full potential w/that 2cent head despite his million dollar arm.

Perez's hop over the foul line is not so much a superstition as a habit. It started when he was playing little league in Mexico and the grounds crew told him to never step on the line. He does it unconditionally and it's not a superstition.

To Donn: I definitely believe Perez has the potential to be distracted by his contract situation. Focus has always been a problem. Why, with all this money on the line, should be any different?-JD

the question is not whether he will sign with us, but rather at what cost.

perez is clearly blessed with an immensely talented arm, but also an equally unpredictable makeup.

seeing as how carlos silva got 4yrs at $48mil, you have to imagine that's probably around where perez's contract talks will begin (and unlike lohse, op will have plenty of people lining up to pay him somewhere in this neighborhood).

so, then, the question is...

knowing what we do about perez, and hypothetically saying he will never be any more consistent than what he was last year (i.e. some games brilliant, some games -- see today's performance)...

should the mets spend btwn $48-60 mil on him?

I really hope I'm wrong, but I think Ollie's going to really regret not talking to the Mets about a long-term extension when they approached him about it this past offseason.

His performance over the course of a full season will never match his talent. It's obvious he lacks focus b/c his stuff is so good. B/c of what's upstairs (or not for that matter), you will always see a collection of 2-3 game stretches where he looks like Sandy Koufax, and, alternatively, Mark Redman.
