Two years ago?

Who cares. He was simply awful for the Dodgers last year.

This is the whole problem with the Mets front-office, press coverage and... to a large extent... fan base: living in the was.

Ask not what has the guy done but what will the guy be reasonable doing in the near future.

Delgado, for example, was great ten thousand years ago (it feels like) but all indications suggest he's barely going to get to the end of the season without having to just throw his hands in the air and retire.

And the Tomato could never field a position.

Not even at Delgado's dismal level of defense.

What is it with this whole "the absolute best case scenario is absolutely expected" vibe going on around here?

Some of you guys sound like Don Rumsfeld, claiming they're gonna be throwing flowers and candy at us for blowing up their cities.

No, no that's not how it works.

The Killer Tomato has nothing left in the tank and he didn't last year either.

If we need Saenz to help our offense then these guys better all pitch like Gibson in 68. Given that Clarke or Pagan or Valentin takes Alou's spot, whose spot would he take? Anderson,Easley, Castro, Chavez, Gotay.... or would you have him take Alou's spot, and play Easley in left every day? or at least on a share with Chavez?

JD, anyone talkin about Santana lower velocity? It's ST but it is nearly his last start and he has not been above 92 and is mostly around 90.

I know there was some written about his velocity being down the last couple mos last yr but this was attributed to some blister issues and his lack of motivation given the Twins situation. And it seems he is not throwing many sliders.

I don't think this would cause him to be less effective in the sense he can't get guys out but I could see it making him have to throw more pitches and therefore not getting as deep into games.

Apparently he had surgery for some nerve issue. I wonder if he would be open to possibly going to AAA for a while. We need arms and he might help.

I am sure someone else could give him a ride.

Two years ago Saenz hit almost 300. We have problems hitting the ball. He would be the perfect right handed bat in #5 position.

dave: huh? Really?

Dude is done as anything other than a positionless pinch-hitter and... has been for seasons. The Killer Tomato is a really bad player except, maybe, as a Lenny Harris style designated pinchhitter and...

Even then, he might not be good at that, ultimately.
