One bad pitch for John Maine tonight. Other than that, he’s been great. He’s easily been the Mets’ most effective pitcher this spring. If the Opening Day assignment were based solely on spring training, then he’d be the guy.
Maine said things are starting to fall into place: “My change-up is coming a long. It makes my fastball appear that much faster. I still have to work on my slider a little more.’’
This story went away quickly after his contract was renewed, but the Mets really need to address signing him to an extension. It’s not going to happen with Oliver Perez because of Scott Boras, but they shouldn’t let things drag on with Maine.
