Fernando Martinez called it “a happy day.’’
That was his reaction after being re-assigned to the minor league camp after tonight’s game.
“They gave me a chance to play and I learned so much,’’ Martinez said.
Said manager Willie Randolph: “Of all the young kids we brought to camp he was the one I wanted to see most and he didn’t disappoint. He has a chance to be a pretty good player and be a big part of our future.’’
Also sent to the minor league camp were: pitchers Tony Armas, Nate Field and Joselo Diaz.

Since you brought it up..
What a difference in attitude between this kid and LM.
The kid is impressive both in the talent and attitude departments. Pray for good health for him this season so that he can further develop. Hope to see him at Shea in September.
Love this kid’s attitude, humble, hard working, just wants to be a good player. Gotta love it, and that’s not mentioning all the talent this kid has. What an approach at the plate for a 19 year old. I think we’ve got something special here!
It is only ST, but his AB last nite against that lefy was very impressive: stay in; hit ball w/authority to opposite field.
He needs more seasoning, but he sure looks like he can hit ML pitching.
