Oliver Perez is throwing for the Mets today against Washington. He’s been so-so this spring, but is coming off his best start.
Ryan Church will re-join the team at Viera. He’s been away after his wife gave birth to the couple’s first child on Friday.
INJURY UPDATES
-Carlos Delgado: Took four stitches in his forearm after being hit by a shattered bat. He wasn’t on the trip anyway.
-Ramon Castro: Is getting a MRI this morning on his right hamstring.
-Jason Vargas: Is having surgery today in Colorado to repair a torn labrum in his left hip.
-Jose Valentin: Will travel to NY soon for treatment on a pinched nerve in his neck.

JD – Why doesn’t Ramon need to go to NY for his MRI? Did they finally get a tech in PSL?
Is there a bracket pool at Spring Training?
Ilan, As slow as Castro is, they were afraid that he would never make the plane.
He’s got better jets than Cancel, or even DiFelice. Haha, remember last season when DiFelice faceplanted into third?
DeFelice’s on that slide was the equivalent to a “belly whopper” into the pool!!!
On another note, are the Mets settling for a back up first baseman by committee using the “former all second base players”? Minaya should have Pittsburgh and a few other teams on speed dial looking to try and score a right hand hitting first baseman/outfielder. Anderson, Easley, and friends are only stop gap replacements.
John: Is it possible to get a follow up on Vargas.
Why did he have the surgery in Vail. Did Vargas go to the Steadman Hawkins Clinic. I know that they are very good.
Also this is the first time I have ever heard of a player having this type of surgery.
