From Willie Randolph’s post-game press conference:
On Pedro Martinez: “It was a good day’s work. He used all his pitches. He’s a pro. This is what we’re here for.” Note: Like Pedro after his simulated game, Randolph didn’t make a big deal about Martinez’s velocity. Martinez did face some quality hitters today, and he pitched well to get out of trouble. All in all, a very positive outing.
On Carlos Delgado: “It was scary for awhile to see the blood gushing out.”
On Ramon Castro: “We’ll shut him down for awhile and see where he is.” That means Wednesday at the earliest.
NOTES: Delgado took four stitches to his right forearm. He’s not on the travel squad for tomorrow’s game, and with the Mets off Tuesday, he won’t play until Wednesday. … Carlos Beltran is also scheduled to get tomorrow off. … Brian Schneider, out with a hamstring, should be able to play Wednesday. … Ryan Church is expected to rejoin the team Monday vs. Nationals at Viera, Fla. … Ruben Gotay took infield practice for the second straight day.
