Carlos Delgado homered moments ago. A line drive to the opposite field. Going the other way is always a positive sign. I’m sure he’ll say something along those lines when the game is over.
I admit it. I wonder about Delgado at times. But, he’s been consistent throughout his career, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he beats last year’s numbers. I’m not willing to say he’s done.

I’m actually not worried about Delgado either, I don’t expect 2006 numbers but he’ll CERTAINLY bounce back and do better than 2007.
What does worry me and what does scare me is what the Mets are going to do in the offseason. Do they bring him back for another year? Do they bring someone else in? If thye bring him back even though its only one year, I think it’d be a mistake.
And then the only relevent “someone else” to bring in is Teixeira and it’s not goign to be easy to get him.
I saw one at bat today. Even tho he struck out I thought he looked better.
I agree with you davey .. all metsies look awesome when they whiff!!!!!!
You can give him a break, if you like…
The job of the New York press seems to be cutting long-spent former All-Stars way too much slack and running promising rookies out of town for high-fiving so… like…
You gotta pay the rent. I understand this.
But Delgado was erratic in 2006, he sucked in 2007 and he came into camp hiding the precursor to hip arthritis. He’s the oldest 35 year old in baseball and…
If he wants my respect anymore, he has to regain it from scratch… any slack he might’ve earned on past performance is long spent.
When he admitted to hiding the hip thing, in his arrogance, whatever good will he’d built up was officially goneski.
The press had no problems beating the crap out of a 21 year old, but we have to be nice to a multi-millionaire?
I’d rather be nice to Church…..
dave: you sure set up the dcdope….... R U from Kansas?
Mike C,
Your boy LM would love to be able to put up the numbers Delgado did in 06.
He certainly won’t do so this year and may never.
Sloppy,
No I didn’t. But it is a thought if I get bored.
See, I don’t understand this. Delgado has had an All Star career and pretty much keeps his mouth shut and is a great pro. Milledge hasn’t proven anything, runs his mouth, and didn’t hustle in key games last year.
I know I’m young, but I always thought you showed a certain amount of deference to guys who play the game the right way and have had an impressive career.
To me Keith, guys are liked or disliked based on a lot of stuff. Lots of folk hate Delgado for hiding during the G-d bless America singing. And because he’s slow and a poorfielder he looks like he doesn’t hustle. In the 1961 year, people hated Maris for breaking Ruth’s record, but they would have loved it if Mantle had done it. Beltran ain’t never gonna be loved in NY nor is AROD…. Hank Aaron got his life threatened for breaking the career record. He never opened his mouth… He was born with Black skin and waas hated for being too good for his color…. Willie Mays was loved in NY but in SF they loved McCovey and thought of Mays as a New Yorker who they never loved…..
