Opening Day cannot come soon enough. We’re really starting to spin out wheels here.

However, I agree with whoever mentioned this was a pity contract for Valentin. I think the Mets brought him in as a favor so he would have a shot to show other teams that he can still play. There is no way he should be on this roster.

1. If Valentin did indeed make a “threat” to retire, a smart organization would give him his watch right now. That’s the kind of guy you don’t want, don’t need…..
2. I wonder who made the decision to play Schneider too soon? Everyone who has ever been in any sport knows you can’t rush a hammy…. except the Mets. They tried to rush Bannister back in 2006, they played all sorts of idiot games with Reyes, this guy will be in and out all year…..

In a perfect world, we get to take a bunch of disasterous trades back and Schoeneweis is simply cut and his salary eaten… I mean, I don’t hate the Orioles so much as to wish The Horror Show on them.

Based on Delcos thoughts it would appear that Register will make the squad b/c Snachez won’t be ready.

In a perfect world, Mets trade Show to O’s for Millar and open spot for Register whether Snachez is on team or not to start.

Also, we might see the most round catcher in Mets history (Cancel) on the team as it was also reported again, tonite on SNY, that Scheinder might not be ready for OD (hammy).

I can’t see how Valentin could have anything left in the tank… I think this was a pity minor-league contract and I think that everyone other than Jose seems to realize this.

Dumping Pagan for Valentin would make even less sense considering that Alou is gone, Beltran’s still a question-mark, you can’t start Church against lefties without basically giving the other team four free outs…

And Valentin isn’t an outfielder. When he was a lot younger and a lot less injured, you could probably get away with using him as an emergency outfielder but hardly now.

Scoop: No word when Sanchez will pitch again. Seems like he has a starter’s life and goes on four days rest. I know they want to go slow, but at this rate I can’t see him being ready by OD.-JD

Stokes is gone. Book it.

Valentin is signed to a minor league deal, so he can get sent to AAA without going through waivers. Unless he doesn’t want to go, in which case he would be released. Hopefully he isn’t fully able to play, and he goes down for 4-6 weeks to get into playing shape.

His contract really has nothing to do with Register. But if they want to add Valentin to the 25 man, someone has to go.

The plan with Register is to wait for the ROckies to fill their roster, and designate him at teh last possible minute. That way, if the Rockies want him back, they will have to cut someone off of their 40 man (assuming it is full). If they don’t want to, the Mets can send him to AAA.

I think they should keep him up if possible, but it is a numbers game.

read comment from Valentin that he will retire if he does not make team out of ST. I wonder if this is why Willie’s comments on Pagan have cooled in the last 2 days and that Pagan will get the shaft.

Also saw this on NY Daily News “Rule 5 pick Steven Register from the Rockies continued to impress with a 1-2-3 seventh inning. However, barring injury or a trade, he doesnâ€™t seem to fit, which means heâ€™ll likely be offered back to Colorado. Still, the Mets can stall until the eve of the March 31 opener by waiting until then to purchase the minor-league contract of Jose Valentin and simultaneously designate Register for assignment.”

Anybody know why Valentin’s contract status would effect Register and why this would allow Mets to stick Register in AAA?

JD, any word on when Sanchez will pitch again? Is he on the same rotation (ie # of days b/w picthing in a game) as the other relievers or is he having more off days than the others?
