“I’m not ready to play nine innings,’’ – Carlos Beltran on whether is left knee will be able to hold up in center field for an entire game.
He has time to heal. Pre-season is just to get in shape. These guys work out all year. Beltran will post on opening day.
He’s got to switch positions. Either to LF/RF or first base. That’s the best chance they have to get 140+ games from him in 2009 and onward. His bat is too valuable to keep out of the lineup for long periods of time.
Even if his knees get better soon to allow him to play CF without problems, it’s just a matter of time before he has additional health issues.
“Beltran not happy/Delgado Slump”
If that’s what going on, maybe it’s OK that I haven’t seen or heard a Mets game since last weekend.
Are these guys ever going to be ready or should Willie start playing the kids now?
Annie: What kids?
Beltran’s full comments indicated that he actually felt better today than in the past. He also stated that it was more about soreness and weakness in his legs than pain.
He’ll be fine.
Most of “the kids” were rightfully traded away for Santana and the best of “the kids” was wrongly traded away for a pair of used boots and a sandwich.
All that’s left of “the kids” are Pelfrey, who’s progressingly if slowly, and Fernando Martinez who shouldn’t see an MLB at-bat before September of 2009 at the EARLIEST.
Ain’t no other kids to call up. Andy Hernandy can’t hit to save his life, Carp’s years away if he’s gonna be anything at all… I don’t know what kids you’re talking about.
Beltran’s no Jimmy Rollins
I thought the problem was his leg atrophied? It will take time to build strength there. If e rushes he will favor the other side and hurt something. Better he comes in as a ph or plays the first half of the game and takes days off.
I posted b4 church RF, endy CF, pagan LF. Perhaps for a month. This means D and speed not power.
Well, is Endy really ready yet himself?
I thought Endy has been playing regularly this week and is making contact with the ball. Didn’t he play CF today?
One site has Beltran unhappy, two sites have Beltran labeled as happy (mets.com and Adam Rubin).
I’m not sure who to believe!
