Game breakdown: At Port St. Lucie, Mike Pelfrey gave up seven runs on seven hits 3 1/3 innings in his third start. … At Fort Lauderdale, Jonathan Niese gave up a run on three hits in two innings. Reliever Jorge Sosa pitched three scoreless innings.  … At Port St. Lucie, Brian Schneider returned to the line-up from a hamstring injury and homered. Ryan Church came back after sitting out six games with a concussion and had two hits.  Damion Easley and Argenis Reyes homered. … At Fort Lauderdale, Fernando Martinez had two hits.


Clubhouse chatter: Scott Schoeneweis and Billy Wagner, both Duke basketball fans were on edge waiting for last night’s game against North Carolina.


What’s next: Tomorrow vs. Houston, at Port St. Lucie, Fla., 1:10 p.m.; CW11 and WFAN.
