This is part of the problem and the reason why it was unfair of Omar to basically say, “we got the players now we need to win..” Yes, getting Yohan is great, but this team was and is saddled with injury prone players. Shame on Omar for thinking he could count on a guy like Alou.

I had “slept on a mattress with a single pea under it” for Alou’s injury so… there goes MY retirement fund.

Sorry, slop but I doubt you are in as good a shape as Alou, despite his many injuries. These atheletes get paid to be in shape. They wouldn’t jeparodize that.

A hernia has somewhat to do with how well in shape you are. But, it is a natural progression of age, mostly in men, where the muscle in the groin becomes weak. It is probably caused by the fact that the male genetals move down and out of the abdomen during development in the mothers body making that part of the lower abdomenal muscles weak (one of the human bodies weaknesses). If untreated, necrosis can set in and the intestines can actually come through the muscle layers to the skin. The intestines can then become necrotic.

The procedure involves applying a plastic mesh to the weaken site to increase the strength of the area. It can be done open or laproscopically. I think 3 mos, given Alou’s history of ailments is a likely outcome.

If you are over 40, have a doctor do an exam (the cough part of a general exam) on a yearly basis to check for a possible hernia.

Depending upon the severity of the issue, surgery might be needed in an expedited fashion. I’m guessing in Alou’s case it must have been severe enough that BB activities would have aggravated the condition so much that he had to have surgery now instead of waiting.

Hey, watch the old man stuff. I never had one and I think I’m older than Alou. Maytbe I stay in shape better? Biking the hills of western PA? Just kiddin you scoop….. Seriosuly, I think you’re optimistic about this guy’s comng back in half a season.
In the pool I had him tripping over the foul line and ripping his hammy to shreds.

i had moises going down with prostate problems in my pool. a buddy of mine went with osteoporosis. the winner raked in a cool $20 and a framed photo of alou screaming at Steve Bartmann.

A hernia is usually an older man problem too. This is gonna take alou 3 mos to come back from.

Pagan/Endy in LF looks like the solution unless Mets windle down BP “depth” w/a trade for a RH bat.
