On Tap Today: Santana, Round Two
-
- March
- 5

Johan Santana makes his second start today against the Dodgers. Also pitching will be Scott Schoeneweis, Joe Smith and Steve Register.
Register is a Rule 5 draftee who has caught the Mets’ eye. Joe Smith was a surprise story last year, but the odds are against him this spring.
More rehab work for all the injured players. Ryan Church and Luis Castillo hope to get on the field. Orlando Hernandez is scheduled to throw batting practice. However, with Hernandez, that’s written pencil.

Saw willie make a comment that he was surprised that some players are taking longer to get ready from surgeries. JD, get any sense he is losing patience?
Was Orlando Hernandez a brittle player in his younger days in Cuba? I like the guy but let’s face it, he is going to get injured at some point.
Hey, written in pencil is a huge step forward for this guy! Woohoo!
Dan – I’ve heard that in Cuba there are only starting pitchers, no relievers, no bullpen guys. With El Duque’s age a factor, perhaps all those years are catching up to him now.
