Time to stop relying on these mid-30 over 40 veterans was A LONG TIME AGO! Should have gotten Lee to play LF. He hits 300 against lefties and righties. And yeah he was on the DL last year, but probably won’t be a CHRONIC DL man like Alou! Beltran’s being paid as a five tool player but has only demonstrated four. Works out so hard to prevent injury, maybe he needs to tone it down. Delgado is done. Castillo’s got bad knees. No series this year. We need to stop dreaming, until the team gets younger.

I love El Duque but he is shot. They need to have stability in the rotationa nd you just can’t count on him because of his age and injury problems. He is a gamer and exciting to watch if he can stay healthy. Alou is the same way. Awesome player that you cannot count on. It is amazing how some players can’t stay healthy. There is enough talent on this team to go far.

BH – I agree. The GM should have put roll players on the team who have a better chance of playing. There are too many old players who are prone to injury.

I am ok with the starters, but the roll players need to be healthy.

Bad luck for Alou but I actually prefer hearing this than it being some ticky tack thing that would linger all year.

At some point, depending on how long all these guys are out, the Mets need to step back and look at the big picture, part of this is bad luck, but part of this is directly on Minaya. Injuries have hurt us 2 years in a row. If you commit to too many oft-injured players, then you are being dumb. Ok fine, roll the dice on an El Duque or an Alou, but you better make sure you don’t have a CF who gets hurt a lot, or a 1B who hasn’t been healthy in 18 months, etc.

WFAN just reported the worst about Alou- he has a hernia and the surgery is scheduled for tomorrow – he will be out 6-8 weeks.

forget opening day for Sanchez and Duque. No way they can go from where they are today (basically shut down) to ML ready by then.

If there is not timetable that means Sanchez is hurt or his arm strength is so poor there is no way for him to be ready opening day.
