John Maine said today’s objective is to sharpen his slider, something he got up in last week’s start against St. Louis.
“It will take some time for that to happen,’’ Maine said. “I’ll need a few starts for that.’’
Maine didn’t last two innings against the Cardinals, and “it would be nice to finish,’’ he said.

Wait, what (besides his fastball) were Maine’s other out-pitches last year??
It almost looked like Maine added a cutter to go along with his rising fastball last year. I seem to remember him working the ball in and our more last year. He also had a decent change when he was throwing it well.
Truth be told, I’m not a big fan of his slider. Let’s hope he’s worked on it over the off season.
I read that the Mets are shopping Sosa & Show—is there anyone we could actually expect to get for these two?? Personally, I’m a big fan of Jorge but I hate Show with every ounce of life in me.
Despite some doubters saying the pen will be the Mets’ downfall, I’m pretty confident we’ll have a solid group going into the season. Heilman, Feliciano, Wagner, Wise-
Kuniz can definitely make an impact this season, and if Smith gets his head in order he’s another weapon-Sosa (if we keep him), and Pelfrey (if Duque is healthy enough to start and he doesn’t start in Bing), or even Duque (if he finds a way to pitch out of the pen without pain). So if Omar is in fact shopping Sosa & Show, would we be looking for another RP or possibly a back-up 1B?
Given Maine’s objective fans should not be surprised by a so-so outcome. Don’t take a poor showing as an issue.
