There was a comment from willie to Sosa. Maybe he is balking at his job as reliever and wants to start?

Trade of Gotay to Balt...

That would explain Mets playing Gotay just at 2b eventhough his value to team is as backup 2b, ss and 3b. Showcase him at 2b, trade him and Show to Balt for Millar.

At least it makes sense. Otherwise, why is Gotay only playing 2b this spring?

JD - I read somewhere in the past week or so that Willie made some comment or other Sosa's way. Is there some motivational thing with that guy?

Millar is a nice thought. Wouldn't mind seeing him. You know, they may be trading Roberts soon... probably could use a 2B. Hmmmmm.

If you could get Lohse for one yr, that would be an almost no-brainer. I'm guessing he is still holding out for 3yrs. If it was 1 yr, he would have signed by now.

All this talk about some guys coming and going. Who would have thought? A week ago it seemed that the team was set.

Maybe this dumping of Show and Sosa is more about getting some salary to get another 1b?

here are some names being floated about on ESPN:
Nick Johnson, Nationals
Scott Hatteberg, Reds
Richie Sexson, Mariners
Tony Clark, Padres
Kevin Millar, Orioles

I'd take Millar as he might still be the most flexible (spot starter, PH, etc), is righthanded and might still be able to play the outfield. Plus he might inject some moxie into an otherwise quiet group.

If Mets get any of these names it might be a sign that Delgado's injury is more serious than they let on.

I don't wanna dump Sosa, he's a serviceable longman.

But if it gets rid of Show in the deal, go for it.

He is that bad.

"Of course it would mean that Pelfrey is going to spend most of his time eating creole food."

To be honest, I'm not so sure that this would be a "bad" thing. Plus, who's to say Pedro doesn't need to take a break at some point this season.

Say the Mets signed Lohse to a one year deal. Lohse should take it because he would probably win a nice number of games and shave his ERA pitching at Shea. This would help his value next year.

It benefits the Mets because they would have 3 guys in the rotation pitching for new contracts and would have a front row seat allowing them to decide on two of Perez, Lohse, and Pedro, opening a spot for Pelfrey.

You wouldn't need to worry as much about having a 6th and 7th starter next year, because guys like Niese, Vinyard, etc., should be almost ready to break into the bigs. We're just in a bit of a tough spot since we no longer have Mulvey and Humber.

I guess Lohse is another possibility. Of course it would mean that Pelfrey is going to spend most of his time eating creole food.

It would be interesting to see what type of deal he would demand at this point given the lack of interest he has commanded.

Unless... they trade Show/Sosa, tell Duque to take his time coming back, and they sign Lohse?

If Mets follow the past, they won't dump Show's salary. Either he will be traded to someone who takes the vast majority of the 7.2 and Mets get little back or to someone who will pickup half and we get some minor leaguer.

As for Sosa, he is no great shakes but does serve a valuable purpose as a swing man. Hard to find that type and Mets are short of SP. I would not want to lose him.

I'm guessing Mets must be highly encouraged by Pedro's health and Pelfrey's head so that ElDuqe can go to the pen, despite his objections.

I think they would trade ElDuque before Sosa if they could find a buyer given his propensity to get nagging injuries. But I'm sure he is in the same boat as Show-a decent amount of money and Mets won't foot bill to have him taken off their hands.

If Show and Sosa can be traded and Mets don't have to pick up tab, that does lossen up some $$ for mid-season.

It may be viewed as a minor salary dump, but wouldn't the Mets need to pick up a sizable part of Schoeneweis' salary. That is unless they can find a trading partner that really needs bullpen help.
