My Mets prediction would be...

A lotta great pitching and an amazing lack of offensive production from a cobble of wounded former-stars and Expo scrubs that are totally polite gets the Mets the NL East in a surprisingly weak division with a win-total in the low to mid nineties and then...

There's only so much you can do with no bats in the playoffs, out in the first round.

Did Francesa join the discussion?

If I were a Yanks fan I wouldn't concern myself w/Mets. You guys have got your own problems.

No 1b. 2 left fielders that are fragile. A weak BP after Joba and Mo.

And most importantly, 3 young arms that have not proven they can throw 150 inn let alone 200 at MLB level. That is gonna make the BP hurt come July/Aug.

And lastly, alot more teams to contend w/for a playoff spot.

There is no one Mets can get or use on the roster for 1b who can do a .280/30/100+. If Delgado can't do it, pitching from Pedro and Snachez along w/Church production and a 100 game Alou will have to do.

Mets need offensive production from first base in order to win it all this year. The first name that came to mind was Nady, but do the Mets have the players to get him? The Mets are going to be better this year with the pitching staff but they still need runs to win the game. Without a healthly Delgado they need some combination of players to make up the 280avg 30hr 100rbi production that a healthy Delgado can produce.

Mets prediction -- NL East title. Pedro will make the majority of his starts and put up an ERA below 3.50. Santana will have a typical Santana year -- which means very good. Maine and Perez will continue their solid pitching from last year, and Pelfrey will have learned from last year and will provide solid starts from the 5th spot all year long. Despite injuries to Alou and Delgado, the Mets will get enough offense out of Beltran, Wright, Reyes, Church, and the fill-ins.

My prediction for the Yankees is that they will miss the playoffs entirely. Their trio of youngsters is too overhyped and too green to fill out the back of the Yankee rotation ably. Wang is not a #1. Pettitte will be distracted all year long by the Clemens' perjury probe. Mussina is shot. Igawa and Pavano remain jokes. Bottom line -- they won't have the pitching to compete.

It's all about pitching, and the Mets rotation will be a strength all year. The Yankees' rotation will be their achilles heel.

my mets prediction for 2008. Wracked by injuries and age, delgado and alou provide nothing and the offense is weak all year. Pedro and el Duque combine for less than 20 starts, which exposes pelfrey and humber as not what they were cracked up to be. Delgado’s decline continues and this team flops badly. Santana goes 20-8 with a 3.11 and a cy young but thats the only attraction as the Mets are passed by the phils and braves early and end up at 80-82. Minaya is fired and the mets are forced to rebuild heading into thieir inaugrual citi park season.

The Pirates have a kid named Steve Pearce who mashed his way from A ball to the bigs last year. The Bucs say he is going to AAA ball, but if he forces his way to Pittsburgh then Nady or LaRoche becomes expendable. I think LaRoche is their man and a righty who can play first/right and hit for power is a real need on this team. So root for this kid to make the team allowing us to try to get Nady back.
