I think its kind of unfair to lump Delgado in with Mo Vaughn. He had a great '06 and battled his way through injuries to give decent production in '07.

We obviously expected more from him last season, but he did hit 24 homers and drive in 87 runs (even though I am not a huge fan of RBI as a measuring stick.)

Gotta make a LARGE free agent run for Texarkana, there is no doubtsy-boutsy.

Too many Mo Vaughns and Carlos Delgados in the time-fog of the Mets past, gotta wash out some of those awful memories of watching former oversized power hitters crumble in front of our eyes.

slop, wasn't suggesting Tex would be here in 08. No way Atl would trade him to Mets.

Just thinking down the road.

I was just pointing out what I thought was a good comment, after seeing so many comments from shallow press guys who just say Delgado came to camp in great shape.... There's more to it then lifting weights as we see so quickly how old pains return to the older guys. As for Church, right now you don't even know when he's going to be ready for play. And I don't think Texeira helps us this year unless he has a horrible season!

Just remember every team has older guys, guys w/injuries. Just gotta hope Mets older guys, injured guys are not as worse off as other teams troubles.

That being said, if Delgado is not going to be productive, the pitching staff will have to be better and injury free w/Pedro and Sanchez being the keys.

Since the team won't score as many runs as we know Alou is only going to be out there for half the games, that puts some people's fav (Church) front and center to be productive.

Who knows. Maybe in the long run this works out like Santana. That is, powers that be see that team needs that 3rd middle of the order thumper and they make a strong play for Texiera just like they did for Santana.

One of the guys on the broadcast made the point that when aging players have to spend the Winter recovering from injuries/surgeries, they come to camp in great physical but not in baseball shape since they were spending so much time rehabbing.

Minor injuries add up together, along with age, into major lack of production.

Delgado basically needs to suck it up because there's no magic cure to a hip impingement. He's just getting older and either he'll beable to deal with it, or he won't and he'll be missing time here and there because of it. Obviously its spring training so there's absolutely no reason he should have played today and obviously you take every precaution and you get the MRI, so he probably would have played in the regular season or taken a day off. That being said, its not major, but it could get uncomfortable. Delagdo basically needs to suck it up and start hitting

Hip impingement

Hip impingement (femoral acetabular impingement) is a disorder of the hip that is becoming more recognized as a cause of hip pain in active adults. It is also felt to be a previously unrecognized cause of arthritis in young adults. The disorder is caused by lack of room between the neck of the femur and the rim of the socket (acetabulum). This lack of room, or clearance, causes the neck and rim of the socket to jam together as the hip is flexed (as in sitting or running). This jamming together of the femoral neck and socket leads to pain and may lead to early degenerative arthritis of the hip.

The primary symptom of hip impingement is pain in the groin region during or after the hip has been in a flexed position, as in activities such as running, jumping or prolonged sitting. If the pain from impingement interferes with activities of daily living, arthroscopic or open surgery may be recommended.

Does anybody know What is a hip impingement??

Church's concussion.... They are treated much differently then they were in the past, especially if it wasn't his first. Did the Mets say if he had a concussion before? He may very well start the season in extended Spring Training.
