If the Phils were going to sign Lohse they would have done it by now.

Let's see how Pelf does and then decide

Sanchez's fastball was my concern all along. I asked JD how hard he was throwing last week but i didn't get an answer. His fastball yesterday did not look good at all. I remember sanchez throwing in the mid nineties back in 2006 before he got injured. As for El Duke, I agree, let this guy go and sign Lohse, he has failed the mets the past two seasons when we needed him the most, enough of El Duke, sign Lohse before the phillies sign him.

Ben your concern over Sanchez is equal to the joy others had after his first outing. Wait a couple weeks and see what rounds into shape. The fact that he pitched at all was surprising based on Met statements that are usually well under-stated.

There's no reason to worry about Santana... not just because it is early spring training but also... all three runs were on one dinger?

I mean, the occasional home run happens. Just happens to anyone.

Had it been on six singles, just gettin' shellacked out there, it would at least be something to worry about.

Home runs happen every once in a while, to the worst and to the best.

El Duque has always been a good pitcher, but every team he's ever been with gets tired of his injury problems, and gets rid of him..

I think the Mets should RELEASE Orlando Hernandez. He's too much a concern, and you can never count on him. Then I'd sign KYLE LOHSE to a 1 year deal. I was one of the people who were really against getting Lohse earlier in the off-season, but for a one year deal and as a #5 starter you can't go wrong.

He's consistant and durable, and that's what you need from your #5 starter. I'm not trying to say he's amazing, but he's a fly ball pitcher, and his numbers would probably improve a bit pitching at Shea.

Santana
Pedro
Maine
Perez
Lohse

I wouldn't give the spot to Mike Pelfrey.. I'm a HUGE pelfrey fan, but he still needs time to develop. I hope the Mets don't fall into the same trap last year.. Just because a pitcher pitches good for a short period of time doesn't mean he's done developing, and should be at the big level. Mike Pelfrey should spend the entire year in AAA and then take over for Lohse in 2009.

Sanchez's performance today has gotten me a little worried. I think SNY just blows the poverbial smoke about his condition because he looked like crap. He needs to gain about 8 mph on the fastball considering he was pitching in the mid 80's today. Thats really not kosher....his mechanics looked real slow too, im worried

How short of a leash is El Duque on, do you think?

When do they just cut it and announce Pelfrey as the 5th spot.

Who is this Johan guy? He is terrible a 13.5 era. I say they release him or send him to high A ball.

He obviously can't pitch at the major league level.
