John Maine gets the ball today for the Mets. He won 15 games last year, his first full season as a starter, and knows the expectations are to at least equal that number.
“I want to continue to build on what I did last year,’’ Maine said. “I’m feeling fine so far. There’s always a little bit more adrenalin with the first start.’’
Maine was an All-Star snub last year. If he pitches that way this season, and everybody else in the rotation pitches to expectations, the Mets should have one of the elite NL staffs.
Also pitching for the Mets: Duaner Sanchez, Scott Schoeneweis, Joe Smith, Steven Register and Juan Padilla.
